I'm not a huge fan of either, to be honest. I've probably heard more Lady Gaga songs than Madonna ones, but though Lady Gaga songs are pretty catchy, by no means do I think they're spectacular. In fact, I really don't like the lyrics to songs like Just Dance and Love Game. The only Lady Gaga song I've heard that I think sends a good message is Born This Way.

Kinda off-topic, but, imo too many songs these days are about sex and alcohol/drugs and partying all the time. ie Ke$ha. Tik Tok is catchy, I'll admit, but its promotion of getting drunk is horrible. No offence to Ke$ha fans.

I actually like Lady Gaga's crazy looks 🙂 (I kind of think her appearance is more spectacular than her voice. Not that she has a bad voice! I just don't find it amazing.) But I love the looks, especially the one posted above because she's like Madonna and Marilyn Manson rolled into one... It's hilarious and kind of awesome. I like that a lot of what she does is basically living art... it's fascinating.

(also she does have some fantastic lyrics)

thinking about it I think I like her cause to me she's a bit of a modern (female) Andy Warhol type. :)
While I find both incredibly pretentious, my vote is swayed for Madonna simply because Lady Gaga is getting on my nerves. Her music was fun in the beginning, but now it's really annoying to me. It's not what it was. Every song has to make a statement to her. And really? Four videos for you & I? Which is improper grammar, and not that great a song anyhow. It feels to me like she just wanted rotation on country stations. Her outifts are getting on my nerves too. What was with that egg thing?

Madonna annoys me a LOT less.

Also, people compare Lady Gaga to Marilyn Manson too much. Manson is and always will be one of my top fandoms. I've been a HUGE fan since I was 12. Marilyn Manson was actually my nickname in high school because people know a) I'd answer to it, and b) I knew WAY too much about that band.

Really? I've never heard of her being compared to M.M before
I thought of all the things they've done, and then voted for Madonna. I don't think she makes good music anymore, but she have done some great stuff in the past and meant a lot for music in general.
 
This guy under the code name "Circus" posted this comment under an article I was reading a month ago, about how does Lady Gaga compare to Madonna, and he took the words right out of my mouth:

"Gaga fans: Its great that Gaga is interesting, she can perform and her songs are catchy but she is no messiah, poet or philosopher. Gaga's lyrical skills are so poor and sometimes downright shameful (Born this way being a prime example - talk about capitalizing on a serious issue). Pandering to gay audiences while spouting unoriginal lyrics and techno dance music and wearing impractical outfits does not make one a visionary. She may have struggled (like most acts) but she is as machine-made as any other pop-act. There is so much blow-your-mind amazing original music out there, if you give something beyond the top-40 a chance. In terms of comparison - Madonna will always win by default simply because she did that sh!t 30 years ago. After all this time all Gaga can offer us is the same thing, albeit under a different label ("avant-garde") which is kind of pathetic."

Exactly how I feel, IMO. No disrespect. 🙂

Personally, I'd have to say Madonna, since I really like some of her music and really haven't optionally listened to Lady Gaga as of yet.
 
Neither. I find Gaga slightly less irritating than Madonna though. Musically I don't mind a couple of Gaga's songs, but she's nothing special imo,
