Hi, i am doing a rewatch of Buffy season 2,so fun so far 🙂 Is it just me or is Maggot man In whats my line parts 1 and 2 not that big a threat. Don't get me wrong,i love the actor, the idea of it and i love the Order, but i just don't see what the Maggots would do except gross you out lol. I would want something a bit more menacing,am i way off base? I get that turning into maggots makes it easier to get into any number of entrance ways, pathways, etc but once he catches you then what? is he strong, will he eat you? lol we never get any other indication other than the maggot thing,i don't know, educate me my fellow buffaholics 😀

I don't think we really got to see that guy and his over all aim.

Yes, he could turn into maggots and creep people out - see Cordelia's reaction. And while people are flailing because of the maggots, he could have any number of weapons stashed in the bag he was carrying once he reassembled himself.

You're screaming and freaking out because you're covered in disgusting creatures and BANG, shot to the head you never saw coming.

Plus, don't maggots eat flesh? Or dead flesh at any rate. Maybe this guy's maggots ate live flesh and that's how he killed his victims. Xander hosed them down pretty quickly.

Wonder what happened to the ones that Xander and Cordelia presumably killed when he was hosing her down and she was stamping all around the place. Was the guy running around with only half a finger or only three toes because he wasn't able to put himself back together completely?

Strength is in numbers. A million little maggots attacking you at once could probably kill you. If those things can eat corpse, I'm sure they could eat you if there was enough of them. But who knows, he kinda just looks cool.

Normal maggots eat dead flesh and leave clean flesh alone, they can and have been used to heal/stop wound infections.

But evil demonic maggots? Who knows. They probably hungrily and enthusiastically devour all human flesh. Hell, the maggots could get anywhere on your body, millions of them in your mouth, eyes, ears...tender places 🙂eek🙂 - get inside and then eat you alive from the inside out.

Maggot guy freaked me the f**k out, yo. 🙁

Well, you know, sometimes the threat can be left unclear to allow the viewer to fill in the blanks with their own imaginations. He killed people before he got to Xander and Cordy, so he must do something terrible. Not everything has to be explicit, and sometimes it is more disturbing not to make it clear how the villain kills exactly, for imaginations sake I guess.

Well, as long as the maggots (worms, whatever would be the most entomologically accurate term) can bite, they're going to be a threat. Just like army ants, or a swarm of wasps, ants, biting spiders and centipedes, or whatever. And it's not effective to attack him the way you would attack a human, mammal, vampire, or demon, and just hit it with a baseball bat.

And the worms probably are carnivorous, so that this maggot-man is a predatory man-eater like the vampires and so many other monsters. Plus, of course, this particular maggot-man is a member of an assassin's gang.

Add all of this to the fact that it's happening to Xander and Cordelia, two characters without any superpowers, and they can't count on Buffy rescuing them (nor does it happen). That's part of the threat; Buffy would have no more chance of getting killed by the maggot-man than a fight with two or three vamps, but it could easily happen to Xander and Cordelia.
