20 character karma...seriously, when are we gonna get rid of this? Or at least make it a more sensible 10.
for whatever reason, it annoys me when people use it.

I dont need a reason. lol

I don't know if I've said it already, but your banner is pretty :)
Wiccaness,
I went to the site (blogher) to see what they put about the K. Had to have a chuckle about the term "Thelemic magick" as there was in Italy a place called Abbey of Thelema as used by Crowley and a few others, they did blood sacrifices there.
I have only used the K as a general term in the word magic, for Black Magick and the like.

It always makes me feel like I should call it "magic-k" (pronouncing the "k" sound twice).

and all this time i thought you just had a stu-stu-stutter... i cant give out karma for 24 hours.. life sucks.

Hmm, I can only recall running into Magic and Magicka. Never Magick. Magicka usually used as some sort of measurement of how much more magic person can use. But i could have easily just forgotten Magick. Oh, and i have encountered that in computer games of course 🙂

I hear you, in my case it was Elderscrolls games.
It's a way to denote magician trick magic with "real" magick.

Yes, I think it is. It has always annoyed me like hell, tho. I think it's sort of supposed to sound more ancient, but I think it's newer than the regular magic. Not too sure about that, but I can only recall seeing it in the most pompous books on wicca and stuff like that.

That tends to get called "mana" in the German game versions.

(And of course I go "mana mana, bee tipi dipi" whenever I read it. :lmao: )

No idea if I'm right, but I've always associated the K explicitly with Crowley. Never liked that spelling, it looks tacky.

Tacky, yeah. That's the word I was looking for

We're not - this is a discussion board, not a one word answer board.

boo-yah! shot down like an out of control airplane!
Yeah, good answer, it makes sense.

Magicka? never even seen that word before. Whether I am right or wrong I've assocciated mana with demonic power.
What games are there that use magic? I'd avoid them myself, but I am curious.
I have always treated the use of magic with respect, using it in a game or as a joke, that's a big no, no. I don't even practise magic when I'm upset with some-one, as I find it's to easy to curse a person. Luckily I found out what I had done and put the matter right, I didn't realise it at the time but my main ability is in healing.

I *think* the talk of magic in game is just video game statistic stuff, any kind of sword and sorcery stuff. Mana got real popular with a litle card game called magic the gathering, but it has a long rooted relation with the Bible as well. :)

we should really have a conversation sometime, you and I.

M:TG has a long rooted relation with the Bible, or mana does? Cause if it's the Biblical thing I'm thinking about, it's "manna" (bread from heaven), not "mana." Either way, I'm 😵

which do you think is more likely?

You're completely right on the spelling and different meanings, there. The one-N "mana" is a concept originally from Polynesian mythlore; it translates roughly as "most efficient" and refers to magical energies stored in places, creatures and objects which are regarded as sacred and/or taboo and can (but shouldn't be) put to work by a sorceror.

Thanks for the info. :)
For your reading pleasure...or horror...

The forum posts following the article are kinda fun too...for me at least, like the hebrew word actually maning "what is it" for manna.

Oh & also in continuation to BlondieBears rep which I deleated the tail end of and in hopes of making it seem less snarky....which do you think is more likely? I misspell something and screw up punctuation...or the 'evil' that is wizard of the coast is long rooted in Biblical terminology? ( I don't see my church trying to foster a relation between M:tG and them)

JK about the 'evil' btw. I've forked a few fireballs myself and I'm a nice enough guy! 🙂

I, too, get really pompous associatons whenever I read the spelling "magick". It makes my mind create funny pictures of grown, robe-clad men with no self irony saying: "My magick is stronger than your magic."

I don't go with the men only thing, several of the worshippers at the Abbey of Thelema were women.
