I was just watching the episode "Him" and something interesting occured to me.....people in the Buffyverse SUCK at making out!!! Literally! LOL Maybe I'm the only one here but if you watch really closely when Buffy makes out with RJ,
"The guy in the Jacket" it's kind of messy and weirdly funny. But I've felt that way about a lot of the kissing on this show. I mean even Spike and Buffy crack me up sometimes. Don't get me wrong it can still come off as passionate but a lot of times it seems like they're "movie kissing". I think the most realisitic making out on the show was Willow and Tara! What do you guys think?::huh1::
 
Cordy and Xander made out weird. She's too forceful lol. Tara and Willow were cute kissers. I love the Faith/Angel make out story though.
 
I think that some of the make out scenes look kinda fake or just plain wierd. It must have been akward for the actors after the makeout scenes!
 
My sister-in-law was visiting us once, and, for some reason, the episode "Smashed," was [playing. She actually laughed out loud when Buffy and Spike crashed through the floor into the basement. I believe her comment was something along the lines of, "A twelve foot drop and they're still going at it after they hit the floor," and it suddenly occurred to he just how absurd, if not downright hilarious, that scene really is.

I guess Joss just doesn't know how to direct a really convincing love scene. Someone should show him a clip of Kerr and Lancaster on the beach in "From Here To Eternity," of Gable and Leigh in "Gone With The Wind."

God, if someone was there laughing during that scene I would have died! I guess I could see how it would be funny to an outsider but I thought it was perfect for them. I don't know if I would say he doesn't know how to direct a good love scene....more like sometimes they just let the actors "fake kiss".
 
To be honest I have never really even thought about how they looked when they kissed each other, but for sure now I am!
 
Yeah, I don't really pay that much attention to the kissage. I do seem to remember noticing that some of the kisses didn't actually look like kisses and more like they're sucking. Just, odd.

I'll have to go home and watch some kissing scenes!

That was the most embarrasing scene ever. I was I think 11 and my mum was in the room and being young watching sex scenes when my family were in the room I always found super embarrasing and that one was on another level of embarrasment.
I do kinda get what you mean, sometimes the kissing does seem a little funny, but I guess kissing in really life looks kinda funny also.

Something that I have noticed in "Buffy." "Angel," "Firefly," and so far in "Doll House," is that, whenever there is a romantic or just plain sex scene (the only exception that I can recall is the attempted rape scene in "Seeing red") is that the female ALWAYS makes the initial starts the action, while the male pretty much just waits around hopefully until she grabs him. Just imagine John Wayne waiting around to be kissed by Maureen O'Hara or Clark Gable waiting for Vivian Leigh to make the first move.
 
Funny, I was recently on LJ discussing how good the kissing on Buffy was...well to be exact, we were discussing Spike and Buffy's kissing prowess. most of us think they do it very well 😉

Joss might be the creator of Buffy but it's not like he's directing every episode. So I'm not sure how much blame you should put on him. And I've never worked on a set so I'm not sure how much directing is done when two characters are kissing or if they just tell them to kiss. Eliza sure didn't know how to do it the first time she kissed David. 😉
 
As I saw in some Buffy dailies, I think James and Sarah worked it out about how to kiss themselves. The director just told them to do it agian or not. 😀 Personally, I think Xander/Anya and Willow/Tara kisses look most real.
 
Xander and Anya's first kiss was sweet and realistic... I agree with you, the kissing in this show is weird and, sorry to say this, not that sexy.

Buffy and Angel always did those sweet, soulful kisses like 16 year old girls dream about. Of course, if Angel OR Spike (or Buffy or Willow) offered to kiss me, I wouldn't turn any of them down.
 
I love Tillow, but their kissing seemed totally awkward to me. Like two straight girls pretending to be lesbians (which makes sense..lol).
 
I think it's cause they're doing that half kiss thing where one of them kisses right above the lips and the other aims for the chin, so it's not as "personal". Willow and Tara's kisses seemed much more realistic 'cause they were kissing lips. Or maybe I'm just weird... I don't know. LOL

Yeah, I noticed that too :)
James Marsters mentioned this in an interview. He said the makeout scenes were all terrible for him because the directors made them position their heads in a way that it was impossible to kiss in a natural fashion. JM said that they claimed it was due to lighting the actors' faces in the scenes, but it made the experience unpleasant & unnatural.
 
Yeah that's another thing to consider. In order for the cameras to get the angles they wanted, they probably couldn't do it "right". 🙂
