Making A Change

Besides Tara coming back in Season 7, I would have loved to see some kind of resolution with Willow and her parents. They basically drop off the face of the Earth after "Gingerbread."

First and foremost I would have loved to see a more in depth crossover between Angel and BtVS where Cordy, and possibly Wesley, get to meet the Scoobies again. Buffy encounters Cordelia near the beginning of Angel S1- briefly- and Wesley near the end of S1, but the only Scooby who sees either of them in the later seasons is Willow (and she doesn't exactly meet Cordy at that point, but rather Cordy being possessed by Jasmine). It would be nice if S2/3 Cordy could have met up with the rest of the gang.

As for other changes... I seem to rant about S7 in every other post I make here, but I would definitely have a) had a smaller group of Potentials, leaving more time for some proper character development for each of them, and b) had Buffy actually talk to them, rather than make speeches at them. I would also neaten up the writing a bit- Buffy constantly insisting that Spike is the most important asset the team has, or words to that effect, when up to that point (LMPTM), his total input has been get triggered, kill people, help Buffy with some training of the potentials, just seems ridiculous and irrational, as does her insistence that Spike is the only one watching her back ONE EPISODE AFTER Xander basically gives an impassioned speech about how awesome she is, puts a stop to the Potentials complaints, and then loses an eye for his troubles. I'm up to this point on my rewatch, and it kind of seems like the writers couldn't make up their minds what they were trying to do with the season or with the character/ pairing. I did wonder if perhaps, knowing that Spike was going to end up wearing the amulet and thus being a deciding factor in the battle, and thus knowing how important he was GOING to be, the writers kind of forgot that he hadn't actually done any of that stuff yet when they were writing the earlier scripts. The second half of the season, and Lies My Parents told me onwards, in particular, really seems kind of messy in terms of writing.

I always thought it would have been nice to see Dru get a storyline in her own right, possibly on Angel rather than BtVS. She always seems to be a supporting character for one of the other vampires when she appears - to Spike when they first arrive, to Angelus when he changes, to Darla when she re-sires her, etc. It would be nice to get a bit more focus on her, and her backstory, and her capabilities. I kind of get why this didn't happen- Dru is mad, whimsical, and talks in riddles, without another character there to "translate", it would perhaps be tricky to follow, but I've always had a soft spot for her, so there we go.

Part of me would also have liked to see how Jenny and Giles's relationship would have progressed- and how her character in general would have progressed- had she not died in Passion. On the other hand, the episode is so heartbreakingly good (the scene where Giles finds Jenny and Angelus watching Buffy and Willow receive the news, in particular), that I wouldn't really want to change anything. I know that initially Oz was intended to die in this episode, but I honestly don't think it would have had the same emotional impact as Jenny's death- Jenny had been in the show longer at that point, was a more established character, and whilst I think Oz's death would have been shocking, as he seemed to be being set up to become an increasingly major character, I don't think it would have been as sad as seeing Jenny go at that point.

It would have been nice to see Cordelia and Wesley that they go to give a final farewell to Buffy in front of his grave.

It would have been *really* nice to see Angel who bears away a white rose on the grave of Buffy, before leaving for the monastery in Sri Lanka
