Male or Female?

drizzlydaze said:
Nope. It's pretty fun to thwart other people's expectations of you with your actual personality. I don't think they would look down at you for having a strong character (unless you're bossy and overbearing, I guess).

Again, see above about defying other people's expectations.

How can you say all of that and then end your post with:

Great thing about being female? Getting the guys to move stuff. You won't have to keep chairs or move cabinets because manual labour is for guys.

Seems a bit contradictory to me.

Because there's a good number of feminists/gender equality advocators in the world now, but there are still certain preconceived notions that remain untouched (opening doors for one's girlfriend, etc.). Rather than achieving true gender equality, there's this persistant need to prove that one isn't sexist, and so is far nicer to the other gender (in this case, female). It's kind of like that with the touchy issue of racism. Instead of true equality, we get either favouritism or discrimination. And might as well take advantage of the former, right? (While thwarting the latter.)

What's so great about being a girl?

Has anyone said something different to what they are? No one want to be anyone else. There's too much unknown. We need InsaneMystic but since he stay out of The Bronze that won't happen.

I'd like to see a thread with the positive and negative of both genders.

Wasn't done with my rep. I keep wishing he'd just jump into this one conversation because I think that he could shed some really interesting light here.

I find this very irritating. That's why I've said for years I find the whole chivalry thing to be offensive and sexist. And people say "What do you mean? It's guys doing nice things for women? Isn't that good?" and I'm like "No. I want true gender equality. That means alternating paying for dinner, letting whoever goes out first open the door for the other, etc. Chivalry is an outdated way of thinking. Women are not weak and do not need to be "taken care of." Women are strong, independent people who can take care of themselves... and even their men at times. And men are not almighty gods who are invisible and never need anyone to take care of them. They can be taken care of as well as take care of themselves. There's no real difference here." I find you "taking advantage of" the doctrine of chivalry which comes from the traditional gender roles and the gender dichotomy to be incredibly infuriating because it counters out all the "gender is a social construct" work that modern feminism does... that you advocated for earlier. You kind of have to pick a side.

No idea, I just find it pretty sweet 🙂 It was mostly a comment made to point out that I've never gotten what's so great about being a dude, I see good and bad in both genders, but since I've never been anything but a girl I've no idea why being a guy would be better/more special

I just kind of pick my own side. Whichever suits me best. Kind of short-sighted and selfish, but hey. If society actually moves towards true gender equality, then I'm fine with it. But as long as it hasn't happened yet, I just go with the flow.

Yeah, well... mention me twice in a row and I'll appear, breaking my resolve. I'm such a sheep. Or The Candyman. 😛

But then again...
female. I like boobs. I like having boobs because I like touching boobs all the time. People are going to think this is not a good answer, but seriously, I like touching boobs (mine). And it doesn't have to be in a sexual manner, I just like the way they feel. And I think penises are super gross. I would hate having one and having to touch one all the time. I just think they're weird and I do not want to have one. Plus I like dresses and while I do believe in tearing down the gender dichotomy in the clothes that we wear (aka I believe it is ok for women to wear "men's" clothing and men can wear dresses and other "women's" items), the rest of society doesn't. Ordinarily, I don't care about society... but I like it when people say "cute dress" when I'm wearing a cute dress. if a guy were to go outside wearing a dress, no matter how cute it was, he would not get a "cute dress" unless it was in a mocking way from some alpha male types.
All of this... so much that I can hardly add anything. 🙂

Boobs rock (one upside of being fat: I do have very sizeable ones, myself, despite my gender-anatomy handicap 😉).

Penises suck, big time. (And see my reply to Tillow4ever below, for the biggest drawback in having one.) Seriously, the one and only upside to having this freakishly overgrown version of a perfectly good clitoris is to be able to pee while standing.

As for dresses... I hardly ever go out in "men's clothes" anymore, since 13 years running. Went with medieval-style ankle-long tunics and cloak ever since then... which is somewhat feminine to the modern eye in its dress-like ness (and gets you the "complete wacko" bonus from a lot of people - amazing what you can get away with when people think you're bonkers. 😀). And yes, my holiday versions have been red and purple, with gold trim. Pretty close to being able to pull off showing up in a ball gown, actually. 😉

But on the other hand. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a guy for just ONE day. I REALLY want to know what an erection feels like. Just sayin. 😀 😉 😛
You're basically just missing out on awkwardness and major discomfort. Seriously - I'd consider a trade-in of a half week of menstruation a month (even though that would be my one downside argument for femininity, too) very fair game if it meant getting rid of this sh*t on a daily basis.

I love you. And this post is golden. it does provide the insight I was talking about

is to be able to pee while standing.

But that is so great. Especially when you're a kid but I'm still very happy that I can do that if I need to when I'm out in the wild.

I very much doubt I'd agree with that trade.

As for penises in general, when it works as it should and as you want it's great. All the other times not so much. For example there's a reason many teenage boys lie on their stomach or are in the water at the beach. It's out of control! Make fun of it if you want but it sure isn't fun to whom it's happening.

By experience I can also say that getting hit in that area sure isn't a picnic. 😉

If mods think we've gone beyond what's familyfriendly I won't complain but I'll let you make the call.

I have to say, the peeing standing up is a huge pull for me (does that sound weird?) 🙂

and it would be really cool to be able to write my name in the snow.... just sayin'....

🙂

I was always a tomboy and a massive jock. When I was growing up I wished so badly that I had been born a boy, because the sports opportunities were much greater for boys, they could go out at night (my brother was allowed to, I wasn't), they didn't have to wear dresses and skirts and hose (all of which I HATE with a passion) or makeup, they didn't have to be "ladylike," and they didn't have to exhaust themselves keeping their knees together to sit in a ladylike fashion. I HATED being a girl. (If I had suddenly and miraculously transformed into a boy, I'd have been gay, but that's a different issue. 🙂 )

That changed when I became a mother. I didn't like being pregnant, and of course child birth is painful, but the RESULT. What I got out of it was a precious human life that *I* grew. And for the ensuing 19 years, I've LOVED being a mother. I loved nursing when he was an infant, and I love the mother role. I much prefer it to what I perceive the father role to be, especially vis-a-vis a son. The mother is the emotional bedrock for the child, the person always there for them, the one whose unconditional love cushions their hurts and falls. Fathers are a little less nurturing, at least IMO. I like being the nurturing one.

So I'm okay with being female now.

I'm definitely female always and forever, but hypothetically speaking, I'd probably want to try and be a man. Men always seem to get away with stuff better than females. It doesn't seem right. Or fair! 😛

well, you know...boys will be boys. *sad sigh*
The whole being a mother thing is difficult to even think about for me, especially the roles of being a mother. I've never been very close with my own mom. For me, it's my relationship with my dad which helped me realize what kind of parent I want to be. I don't know if the word I'd use for my dad was "nurturing," but we've always been able to communicate our feelings to each other, which for me, worked better. My family outside of my parents and sister, are all very into the whole nuclear family tradition. Up until recently, my mom and dad were the only ones to ever get a divorce. I've had to sit and listen to my aunts gripe about how a daughter should live with her mother rather than her father. Thankfully, that didn't stop me from going to live with him when I was 11 years old, and it was probably the best decision I've ever made.

My step mom was not the nurturing type, and I think my dad would have been had he not been so sick all those years. Even so, I felt more comfortable talking to him about "girl things" than my mom or any of my other mother figures. Because of him, I basically expect any guy to not be so concerned about showing he's "the man." I love that my dad holds no qualms about crying during a Kodak Moment commercial, or at the end of X-Men 2. He's taught me more about gender equality than anyone else I know.

I don't know where I was going with this post. I guess I was trying to make a point about how stupid I think the traditional roles of men and women are in society. Or maybe I was just bragging on my old dad. 🙂

Great post! You are lucky to have such a great Dad. I had a great Dad too.
