Male Sexual Assault

In a way, this kinda follows on from the Slut shaming, but also the thread that talks about Darla and Angel.

In that it's about how people are perceived and how males are less talked about as victims, especially of assault.

I saw this today, which made me think about how often you see or hear about it

The only time I really remember it being a big storyline, was on Hollyoaks, with Luke.

I also saw this the other day, I thought it was a great way to at least start breaking the silence.

I find it really sad how male sexual victims are often forced into silence even more than woman. A man very close to me was actually raped by a priest as a kid, and the amount of damage it can do to someone is unbelievable, it's very sad.

The worst part is that, while sexual assault is equally traumatic, regardless of the gender of the victim, the person who rapes a woman is charged with Rape, and in most states could receive a very lengthy prison sentence, the same thing happens to a male, and the attacker is almost always charged with simple assault, or at best, assault and battery, and can be back out on the street doing the same thing again in as little as a couple of years.

This is pure perception - and I do not in any way belittle male survivors of sexual assault, I believe it is an equally horrible thing male or female - but the perception I have from the media is that when males are sexually assaulted it is felt to be so much worse than when it happens to a woman that those who rape males get much longer sentences than those who rape females.

I think that the individuals featured in both of these articles (the one the OP linked plus the original one with women holding signs) are incredibly brave for speaking out & bringing awareness.
