I remember some stuff from a uncle johns bathroom reader I once read.

'Kentucky Fried Chicken' franchises tried their slogan of "finger licking good" at their restaurants in China. The translation lost something and it was interpreted as "so good you'll chew off your fingers."

Ford had problems promoting the "Pinto" car in south american nations; it's slang for 'small male genitals' in their target countries. Who would want to drive that?

Also Pepsi had a problem in translation for the far east. "Come alive with Pepsi" was translated literally as "Pepsi will raise your ancestors from the dead"

I'll try to find that book; it had more instances of weird in it.

I know, my mate once told me that if you have some chewing gum, ate it and spat it out into some tissue then wrapped it up, you could sell it on Ebay and say that it was some famous celebrities chewing gum. And people would actually bid on/buy it.
