Today I was sitting at my computer and for some reason I remembered an episode on BTVS where Dawn puts a marshmallow in the microwave. So me, being all curious decided to try it. Unfortunatly, all I have is mini-marshmallows and I wanted to try it with the big ones (which we don't have) so....

Has anyone ever actually put a normal-sized marshmallow in the microwave (turning the microwave on)? And if so, what DOES happen to the marshmallow?? I know they get bigger but do they explode or just keep expanding? I know it's a very strange question but it's been bugging me all day and I was wondering if anyone knows what happens. 😕

It goes big.. it expands till the microwave stops.. then it kinda shrivels back down a bit.. I think..

Yeah it totally explodes. And leaves one heck of a gooey mess in your microwave. Not that I know from experience or anything. 😀

Definately not a good experience none the less... It is my distinct advice to leave the gooey stuff INSIDE the marshmallow, unless you are prepared for the consequences 😀

I have so wanted try this ever since I watched CWDP (especially after hearing the commentaries). But I don't have a microwave at home...

Don't DO IT!!! 😀 😀

Alas dear children let the mistress of the Microwave guide you. I've been microing marshmallow since I was old enough to move away from the non-organic objects such as watches and jewellry and embrace the wonderland of organic microwaving.

It's all about control. You need to be in control of the micro and the marshmallow. Never leave it, keep your eyes fixed on the micro all the time (of course this requires a micro with seethrough glass, otherwise it's a big nono).

Let's start from the beginning. You put your marshmallow (the normal sized white ones are to prefer) on a plate that you don't mind getting sticky and hard to wash up. Place the plate in the middle of the micro and set the timer for 20 seconds. Press start and watch how your marshmallow gets bigger and bigger. Now the trick is to not get greedy and stop before it reaches the ceiling or the walls of the micro. Never let it grow bigger than a softball. Quickly turn of the micro and watch it shrink and shrivel into a nice gooey mix.

For the nicest taste repeat the process a couple of times, but be careful that you don't give it too much time. It's always a pain if it starts burning from the inside. Burning marshmallow is not a good thing.

Yes - oh wise teacher!
Ok I explode oatmeal and hot cocoa in the microwave, I ain't tryin' it with an ooey gooey sticky marshmallow!!

My mom doesn't let us(my siblings and I) have marshmallows unless we have supervision. But, my brother, my sister and their friends did put marshmallow peeps(the kind you see on easter) and put em' in the micro and then waited till they got really big and them ate them. But I know the first thing I am gonna do when I get marshmallows again.....*devilish grin*😀

I tried it once. I put a marshmallow in the micro with a chocolate chip cookie under and ontop of it. It just went....

O....(_).....(__).......

Then I took it out. Needless to say, the cookies fell off and the chips sorta made melty brown spots on the mallow. But it is fun watching it cower back into it's tiny marshmallow shape.

That'd be a good episode. Buffy the Vampire Slayer V.S. Radioactive Mallow Man...hmmm....*pulls up microsoft word*

Geez, at the same time? That's just bad. Even though it's sometime tempting to make breakfast all in one go, never forget the golden rule -One thing at a time.

There's no way one little marshmallow can do the same thing as oatmeal and cocoa can do together. So don't be afraid, gotta live on the edge. Risk a little to live a little. That last sentence goes for all of you.

MMmmm...that oatmeal and cocoa sounds nice...you got a recipe for that? 😉 🙂

LOL, no I exploded them at separate microwaving outings...But they were within a day of each other and I'm starting to think my microwaving skills are a bit lacking...

Even though me and mircowaving don't really go together well (just yesterday I managed to burn all the popcorn in the house... don't know how though) I just had to try to do this. Having just a cople of days ago bought white tasty marshmallows from the US (unfortunately mini), it was just the perfect time to do this.

The tiny little things grew really big untill I took them out and they got all melty and even more tasty. Tasted almost like my favorite desert Fluff.

Since I don't have a microwave, why don't we do that whenever I come and visit you and your micro? I really wanna =)
Don't let the popcorns discourages you. There is one thing I have long since stopped doing and that's popcorn and cucumber, but that's another story. Either I end up with a bag with about half of the popcorns unpopped corns or I end up with a burning lump of charcoal.

Gotta agree on the Fluff thing, that's suger tasty goodness.

Bet me to it JollyApe. But You saved me form a bunch of typeing. So thanks. Now back to the yummness of these marshmallows.
I did this for so long but everyone got mad at me ther like it will explode. (but it only happend a few times) 😉 But its really yummey. Oh and when I saw it on Buffy. proved to my friends that I was not wried. But thay said Dawn was wried too.
