Who else is excited by the talk of the Marvel Movies?
I loved Iron Man, and I really liked The Hulk and I'm super stoked at the idea of them all being written with a view to interconnecting - makes them feel more like the comics and gives scope for a much grander story.

ANYWAY, I just read online that Samuel L. Jackson has signed up to an unprecendented 9 movie deal with Marvel to reprise the role of Nick Fury - the source isn't exactly strong, but I have done a little checking and it makes sense.

Despite his earlier claim that he may not star as Nick Fury due to a negotiation break-down, Samuel L. Jackson has now been signed for nine Marvel movies, including 'Iron Man 2' and 'The Avengers'

It makes sense IF the movies like 'Thor', 'Iron Man' and 'The First Avenger' are all cameos and 'The Avengers', 'Nick Fury' and 'S.H.E.I.L.D' are all signed with a view to separate sequels (which is the case for most motion pictures - even Watchmen had contracts for potential sequel) along with possibly 'Ant-Man', 'The Wasp' and 'Vision' along with maybe a cross with 'Fantastic Four' or indeed any other of a long list of possible candidates to have their own movie, Sam could be very busy.

I really hope this happens because I love 'The Avengers' and would love to see some great comic to film movies made by the people who know the comics inside out.

What do you guys think?
 
If anyone watched the last clip after the credits of Iron Man, Samuel L Jackson showed up as Nick Fury. Then, in The Hulk, Robert Downey Jr showed up as Tony Stark. As much as I'd love to hope for some huge, wrapped in a bow movie arrangement that would tie everything together, I think I'll probably be 50 before they could pull it off without being forced. The Avengers movie keeps being pushed back and pushed back. Plus wouldnt it only make sense to have a member of Xmen show up in Spiderman then?

For this group of movies, I think 2012 will be when they are all up - 2016 including sequels and threequels, so not too long and you'll not be 50 then...unless you've been lying to me for years!

I don't think x-Men and Spiderman will ever be part of the Marvel Studios world, so I doubt there will ever be a cross over for them.
 
According to superherohype.com, there have been repeated set backs for the Avengers film. Thye're not even sure if its going to be released, let alone when. I'm trying to find links but everything is OMGlookatMeganFoxinacorset!!!!Sheshawt!!

As far as the Spiderman/Xmen thing...it was more of a joke playing off Spiderman and his Amazing Friends.

Wasn;t the biggest issues for the Avengers Sam Jackson and Edward Norton?

Oned of those isn't an issue anymore and the other, well I liked him as Bruce Banner, but honestly I can live without him.

Just as long as they don't let David Hasselhof (?) play Nick Fury again, I'll be happy. (Though I've always wondered how a World War 2 vet could star as an action hero in the 21st Century)

It would be great to see an Avengers movie. Hopefully Thor will open up the Marvel Movie Universe to more fantasy elements. So it wont be so "Superheroes in The Real World. This is fine, but Marvel have become obsessed with political type stories. It becomes boring. Sometimes you just want to see a giant fantasy filled epic. The Fantastic Four were meant to do this, but failed miserably.
So if it does happen, I want to see Loki and Ultron. Or the Kree.
Not an Iraq super-soldier which mirrors the current political climate. Yawn. I live in the real world, when I read comics I want to leave it for a while.
In terms of characters. We need Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. I can do without Hulk, he was gone by the second issue anyway. Throw in Hawkeye, Miss Marvel, Scarlet Witch, The Wasp and The Vision, and I will do the comic book geek dance of joy. 🙂

I mean I actually think it worked for Iron Man, but for furthering the story, we need the other worldly feel.
I did hear that most of Thor will be set in Valhalla so that might be how they plan to make it more real if they keep the 'Gods' on a different plane - though is anyone else loving the idea of Kenneth Branagh as the director?

I'm also liking the suggestion of Charlie Hunnam as Thor.

He definitely has the look - if he bulks up a little.

Not sure I like the 'Josh Hartness as Loki' rumour though.
 
I love that Kenneth Branagh is directing Thor, that's gonna be fun. Just based on appearance, I like Alexander Skarsgard for Thor. He says he thinks he's probably out of the running now, who knows (might just be trying to lay low, remain a contender).

I don't know what the absolute latest on Avengers is, but I'm thinking Iron Man 2 will give us some sense of what it will feel like. I've read that when it happens, Marvel wants Favreau to direct it. IM2, we'll have Tony Stark, Black Widow (ScarJo), Nick Fury (Jackson), War Machine (Cheadle). A while back it was rumored that Hawkeye was gonna show up in IM2, but I haven't heard anything since. And people are speculating that Kate Mara has been cast as The Wasp or somebody Avengers related.

I see Kenneth Branagh going to town on a mythical, Shakespearean adaptation, so I like that.
Favreau did a remarkable job on Ironman so it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him around - time permitting.

I would also like to see Kevin Smiths take on part of the verse AND even though I am not his biggest fan, I could imagine that because these are character driven and part of a bigger whole, Joss would be able to do something - be it as director, script or even just cleaning up the first draft.

Wouldn't the Wasp be more for the upcoming Ant-Man film?
I read a couple of months ago that Eva Longoria was spotted coming out of the Marvel offices and it was speculated that she had just been to audition for The Wasp.

Not sure I like that - Eva is hot and all, and I am sure she would look awesome, but I don't know about her ability being good enough.

Having said that, I fully support Marvel Studios choices no matter what, they did perfect casting for IM and Hulk so I will give benefit of doubt over any actors they choose.
 
Before the Avengers movie is drafted the studio has to resurect Captain America first because there was easter eggs of Caps Shield in the Iron Man movie.
As for Thor...does it really matter who is casted for the lead? They will CGI Thor to keep the meek and mild character comparison to the huge superhero Thor. Brannagh can do the Shakespeare style but it would definitely be a bad choice if it tanks. A lot of fans want Thor in the Avenger movie so if the character comes in weak (like say if they went with the first Hulk movie) then it will be an anchor for the movie.
As for Sam signing a 9 pic deal I can't see it...to keep his profile of the character consistent they would have to shoot 2/3 movies a year to meet the 9 pic deal and the studio is not pumping out the scripts fast enough. Let's face it Sam's closer to drawing his old age security before completing a 9 pic deal and I can't see him wanting to commit to that character for so long.
IM2 is definitely going to be a huge indicator on how the Marvel-verse is going to unfold.
As for Spiderman I think a Spidey/Blade movie would be interesting.

I think you have misunderstood the 9-picture deal Teen.
I believe it would be, for the most part, cameos like the Iron Man scene which will have taken 2 days tops.

Now, Nick Fury, S.H.E.I.L.D and The Avengers would require a fuller presence, but thats not so much an issue as they would be spaced out about 1.5 years between each.

Captain America has his first movie 'The First Avenger' scheduled for release at the beginning of Summer 2011, while The Avengers would be the end of Summer 2011, so the Cap can be in both.

The Hulk and Iron Man tried their damnedest to keep CGI to its bare minimum as to give it as real a feel as possible, so Thor, I believe, will fall onto the shoulders of the lead as a character actor.
I also believe that Kenneth Branagh being picked highlights that this will be less razzle dazzle and more about the character.

Right, there was the Eva sighting, but then she herself shot down that speculation, hard to say what's going on.

The reason people are so curious about Kate Mara is because she was cast in IM2, but Marvel aren't telling us what part she's playing. So people are thinking it must be an important character that may carry on into The Avengers (Janet Van Dyne, Wanda Maximoff...Carol Danvers—seems like a longshot).

I haven't heard a peep about Edgar Wright's Ant Man flick in over a year, seems like. It wasn't on Marvel's latest official slate.

And Titan, I can't imagine they'd CGI a human-looking character like Thor (except for some of the action scenes) if that's what you're suggesting. You're thinking they'll cast for Donald Blake then CGI him for Thor?

I'm super psyched for the WW2 Cap film. I hope Joe Johnston does a good job. Seems like it will be just as challenging to do well as Thor, in its own way.
 
That's what I meant GB. Cast Blake then CGI Thor. The transformation to Thor is like Banner to Hulk so to do justice to the comic hero Thor needs to be CGI or the fans will just not buy it.
You were right about the limited CGI in IM, Edmund, but in Hulk it was a whole lot of CGI. But what I liked was the close fighting of Tim Roth and Hulk that made it look very realistic. In IM Favreau said he would only do the movie IF he was allowed to do a lot of the movie the old school way.
But if Marvel studio's starts to crank up the pace for the Avenger movie and Favreau wants to direct other movies then he might accept more CGI. Let's face it if he directs the Avenger movie he will have to handle up to 4/5 superheros so old school methods might hinder the scene that is CGI heavy.
Sam may be doing cameo's for the next 2/3 movies but about 5 years down the road he will have to do a full movie so he will be 66/67 years old. So Marvel might not want a 'senior' Nick Fury. That's why this 9 pic deal is so absurd. I haven't really read anything anywhere that this is true.

I don't think so. Harrison Ford is still doing his own stunts in Indiana Jones and he doesn't look or do too bad.
As long as Sam stays in shape, which I see no reason for him not to, then he has a good few years in him.
Also, the films he will have a major role in are:
Nick Fury
The Avengers
S.H.I.E.L.D
And possibly sequels for them but to be fair, we don't have any clue what they have in store for his character, how big his role is and what action he will have to do.
As I say, it is a standard clause for ANY movie to have an actor sign on for a sequel for these types of movies, sometimes even a threequel, so you have your 9 movies right there (including Thor, IM2 and Ant-Man) but thats only an option.
Also, lets not forget that Marvel have totally redesigned Nick Fury in the image of Sam Jackson.
He may be a 61 year old, but he sure doesn't look like it.
 
I would much prefer to see an actor play Thor. I know that no actor could physically do him justice, but I would gladly watch a good actor, who hit the gym, than a CGI creation. I prefer Favreau's old school approach. I have not liked either CGI hulks, the same goes for the Silver Surfer.
I actually can't wait to see Thor. Just to see if they can make him work. I don't want CGI, but I also don't want a stupid muscle suit, like Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut. It will be interesting. 🙂
