Ok - so I've met three members of this board so far and I'm so thankful for the new friends I've made (Yes that's you Buffy, Jacklyn & Faith).

Luckily I didn't have to go far to meet them, but in February I'm going to NC to meet a person from here that has really become one of my best friends...not one of my best friends online, but seriously a great person and friend to me over the last year and a half. Now I'm really not that nervous about driving down and meeting because I'm pretty sure (99.9%) that he's sane and all, but what really makes me nervous is whether or not we'll get along in person...We'll see I guess 🙂

Anyone else have similar experiences either here or on another board/site? At first my other friends thought it was weird, but honestly it's better than online dating which has become so commonplace these days.

I haven't met up with any of my online friends but I do have friends that I have met online that I absolutely love to bits. My best online friend Millie and I send each other dvd's of shows all the time. Especially the ones we have had sent to us from friends in the states and we chat everyday. I can tell her anything. She lives about 2 hours away from me and I know we are planning on meeting up we just haven't got round to it.

I think it is quite scary though. I think I would be wary meeting a man even if I knew they were not a weirdo.

Actually, i have met a few people in person after meeting them online first. Even dated one for a while.

I think that, whilst the dangers that the media suggest about "online friendships" are real, they are also the extreme minority. Sure, there are sexually depraved sickos and nutcases on here that are a real threat, especially to younger internet users, but they exist in real life as well. You have as much chance of meeting one of them in your local library as you do on here. The truth is that likely 99% of the people you will ever meet on here are perfectly normal people who are using this method of communication to expand their cirle of friends and experience.

This is the computer age so, whilst you should never forget the potential dangers (which is also true in pretty much everything in life) you can't let the sick minority prevent you from making the most of this technology and getting to know people you might never have otherwise had the chance to know. 🙂

I met up with someone online years ago (bout five or something) and we speak from time to time now. Also recently met up with Epi and Frenchy Faith and that was all kinds of crazy phone. Especially when we spoke to Faith and Elmo on the phone 😉

We've been talking for like a year and a half. It's just a friendship thing...I mean...anyone who's been here for a while knows about Comma and I...

I have only met one person from online, and even though we had become as close as DSL and a monitor will let you, i was still nervous in meeting her, with the same fears of, will she like the 'real me', what if she is different to the person online and i don't like her, thus souring our online friendship, or what if she is an axe murderer and neglected to tell me. Well, we met, the first few minutes was a nervous few, infact i had the urge to type to her so much i sent her a text while she was three foot away(i'm a geek - sue me), but in fact that text broke down that barrier and within minutes of that 'beep beep' we were talking like old friends....it was marvellous.
I suppose, as long as you are truthful while creating the online relationship, then when you do(or if in most cases) meet, and remain truthful, you can look forward to a mutually fruitful friendship.

Having said that, i'm quite eager now to meet some of the people i have become close to online now, because a) I think friendship can get foundations anywhere, its how you build on those thatcount, and b) i have proof online that I'M not an axe weilding maniac because my friend is still alive and posting....lol.

So, heres to hoping i make MORE online friends and get to spend time with them in the real world in the future

how do WE know she's still alive.......i havent seen her around in a while...

Yeah, i think most of us figured that you were talking about Comma, sweetheart! 😀

Are you sure we should mention that night? I mean I sure had tons of fun but then again, none of the people who were meeting me or talking to me on the phone that night can think I'm the least bit sane.. hm..

I have met a lot of my online friends. First time was two and a half years ago when I met my first girlfriend.. Who actually became my girlfriend the first time we met.. But we had talked online for a long time. Then I met some other people I had talked to online, they're still quite close friends (not the ex though, eh)..

When I started posting at BB I got to know my dear friend Fran (doppelgänger), and we met last spring, which was awesome and I'm hoping to see her soon again..

When I decided to move to the UK I found out that Frenchy_Faith was doing the same, and a few weeks ago I went to Birmingham to visit her, which was such a fun weekend and that girl is definitely just as sweet as she seems onlint 🙂 And Ash mentioned we convinced him to hang out with us one night.. which was a crazy night but yeah, still really cool to meet Ash as well.

Oh and right before I went to here (to the UK), me, JollyApe and Joamna had a Buffy hang out in Sthlm. I had of course met Joamna before, seeing as she's a part of my family, but it was a lot of fun to meet Ape and hang out the three of us.

So what I'm trying to say is that I love meeting people online and then meeting them in real life, it's easier sometimes, since I'm not always too good at getting to know new people.. I think internet is a great way to make real friends. And right now, when I don't live in the same country as most of my friends, it's actually easier to keep in touch with my online friends, than those who used to be my irl ones...

EDIT: LMAO, I'm falling off my chair here, Frenchy_Faith just said to me on MSN: "OMG wait a sec.... Ash is actually Xander?????"

^ don't get what's going on above ^ :help2:

Anyway... I've meet a bunch of people.. not that much but still...
first some people I knew from a gay forum of my town... worst experience.. that was really bad

Then this summer I've met Faithy who is like my sis.. I had known her for about 2 years and a half and we're just getting along so well.. meeting her was so strange but I loved it!

And last but NOT least.... hehe... epo came over for 4 days about a month ago and we really had a good time (I dare say epo?) hehe... you're really really cool girl 😀... loved talking about BtVS without risking to get you bored... and DV8 was just soooooooooooo cool that night! hehehe
And then.... for the Saturday Night Fever... hehe... dear Ash / Xander joined us! hehe... I think we kind of scared you a bit dear :: wacko2 hehehe.... hope not too much though... and that next time you'll stay a bit longer 😀

And I'm gonna meet elmo soon!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!! *bounces around* 😀😀😀

I haven't met anyone from Buffy Boards in person but I have met a girl on MySpace. She went to my high school but we never ever talked. My sister had classes with her and told me that she wasn't that good a person to chill with. Anyway, we always talked online and got along really well. But the day we met in person was the most awkward meeting ever. We had nothing to talk about. Now we don't even talk online or anything. So that was a bad experience.

Now, there is this girl who I also met on MySpace and she keeps telling me she wants to meet. She's even going around asking people about me.(We both live in the same city and there's only one BIG High School here so you could say almost everyone knows everyone in Trenton.) Anyway, I'm not sure wether to meet because of my last bad experience. I mean what if it's awkward again and we drift apart or something. .

There are a few people from BuffyBoards that I'd like to meet. But mostly everyone here lives so far away from where I live LOL.

PS. Sorry I went on for so long.

You dare say Faith, lol.. And I'll be back for sure, but you have to come to Cambridge and visit me too alright? (Then I'll finally have someone to go to the gay club with, lol..)

Lol that made me chuckle. Who did you think I was? We even mentioned my style manager position thing that night, allbeit at the end of it.

And I wasn't scared, just tired. Long shift and all that. I did enjoy that night.

And I'm soooooo sorry.... I forgot to mention ya Dru.... I guess it's cause I didnt met you through Buffy and I feel I know you more offline than online (I don't know how but yeah somehow)....
so another experience.. I met Dru on My Space and we really got along... and about 2 months or so after I first talked to her on there, I had to go to Paris for exams and she invited me to stay in her house. That was the nicest thing ever.. and honestly I was sooooo scared but everything went fine.... she's so awesome and we got along at once... (I think)... then I went back for my passport and later for an oral exam (wait I actually went to see you 3 times?? It's about time YOU come see me missy!) and we like talk on MSN about everyday and she's such a great friend (asking for my news so very often and texting me at 6.59am!!! hehe)
Plus now being a Buffy fan as well... couldn't be more perfect.. hehe 😉
