We all know that a few bb meetings are being planned, Belgium (?) and London for example. And we know that previous meetings of different kinds have been made (Mr. Pointy showed pics I think if I remember correctly). And as some of you might know Bluebird visited me this weekend. So who of you have met each other? Who are planning to go or at least want to go to these meetings? You´re especially looking forward to meeting someone special? EB you don´t have to say that everyone is mostly looking forward to meeting you. We already know you think that. Anyone a bit “scared” of a big meeting and rather want to meet someone special? Even if that´s more “risky” in a way. But you are free to “dream”. And remember that in dreams money isn´t an issue. 😉

What I noticed from this weekend was my lack of willingness to talk. I wanted to speak but my shyness, the English not being my native language and the fact that I hate my voice kept me much more quiet than I wanted. But since most of you non-English natives isn´t as shy as me I guess most of you won´t have that trouble. But for me it´s one of the reasons why I´m sceptical to the fact that I´ll ever go to a bb meeting.

Now lets hear your thoughts!

I know what you mean, so I'm not going to suggest a Swedish meeting! God Jul!
I'm glad I am on your mind while creating threads but I wouldn't say everyone is mostly looking forward to meeting me, I know a few people are like that but not all.

If you want to put a limitation on meeting people thats up to you, but I don't feel a need.

I mean when I meet up with whomever decides to come, I will be meeting people I don't know, but have no expectation.

Its not a 'date' its not a meeting of minds, its pretty much a scaled down convention.
There will be some nervousness, maybe a little awkwardness, but not from me.

Its a confidence thing.

I was scared the first time I met someone in real life from online but when we did meet it was great, slight awkwardness at first but once we settled down we were just like how we had been if we were speaking online.

I'm planning on going to the London meet I'm not especially looking forward to meeting any one person in particular but rather interested in meeting you all. I've never been to a mass meeting from an internet forum, only one on one meetings with people I've got to know, so it's going to be different and I imagine fun.

"Mass meeting" immediately made me think "Mass murder". *looks sidelong at EB* He HAS been unusually nice lately.......
Well, obviously I've already met the people in real life I live with (aka itspaperdoll and Queen Mom), but I knew them before they joined the Boards, so I don't know if that counts.
Other than that, I plan to go to the BB meet ups (yay, can't wait...there was this episode in the kitchen last night where i was squeeking 'Londooooon' in a high-pitched voice for several minutes). I'm not really nervous about it. It's my favourite town, with people who also like my favourite show. And well, so far I haven'treally had any trouble meeting new time. If it gets awkward, start pouring the alcohol, lol.

Or do something to you, to stop making funny sounds. ^^
😀

Now, I'll be maybe shy at first, but maybe not. It depends on how quickly I'll find the people with whom I like to talk and to find issues to talk about and then the fun starts, but until August there's still a long way to go and still loads of Buffy Boarding to be done, so we'll se, eh? 😉

I've met 5 friends from the internet over the years, most of which required me to fly to England to do so for varying periods of time taking up chunks of the last 5 years lol.

And next year I'll be meeting Jonut (locally) and flying over again twice to meet a good few of the UK members here.

Met DoI yet?

You really take this low key kindness to a special christmas level don´t you? The old you would sure made that comment if I didn´t. 😉

Not sure if I´d call it "want" specificly. But I guess it´s easier to put it like that. Yes, people I don´t want to meet most of you. 😉 Hmm, I´d love to meet a lot of you actually. Not sure I would handle it good though. Sitting quietly in a dark corner observing sounds more like me.

Its a confidence thing.
Yep, that´s why I guess this theory could benefit me.
If it gets awkward, start pouring the alcohol, lol.

But I´m really not one for getting drunk. Being quiet and akward is my thing. 😉

Making people feel awkard is my thing..well i dont actually mean too ..it just sort of happens..words come out my month and before i have time to process them there out flowing round in all its awkard glory. Thats why i think i'll give these meetings a miss. im socially unexceptable for most people. haw haw

I'm sure people are onlt uncomfortable because they sense you are uncomfortable, everyone is insecure about something! Get a couple of shandies down you woman!
Honestly i'd love to meet some fellow BBer's only not to many happen up around delaware, Lyri came to new york and i wanted to meet up with her but I had better things to do (I was due to deliver my son around the time she was up here) so i missed out on that and now if there is a meet up it will definatly be difficult since Jonathan is so young..

I've met people from another forum Im on but it is a local one and we pretty much had a few piss ups. Fun times. I think I would be more comfortable meeting up with a few people rather than one on one. I think it would be a little awkward when there are only two people, but in saying that there are a few on here that I think I would get along with like a house on fire. Problem is, I don have a spare few grand to go and visit people in other countries. As far as Im getting is Sydney!

Yeah sure there are people I would like to meet.... I'm really looking forward to London, Baby YEAH! And to meet the great EB? Well, it would be an honour.

Having said that, I would quite like to meet my Drogyn Housemates. SiT, XDruX, AllyCat, Scobro and Lindsey McDonald and Spoons, if only to see how crackers they all are! I've also had quite a bit of contact with Epo, Lyri and ~angelic slayer~ so it would be cool to meet them too 🙂

Lol, I love how you lump me and Spoons together as a pair!
I don't know, i guess meeting up would be a little weird for me anyway, i could go to the Manchester meeting its only an hour away form me. But i don't think I'll go i kind of like having my separate little worlds and i wouldn't really know what to say to everyone! or explain what i'm doing to my friends or parents, they wouldn't be pleased and would probably think your all pedos!...maybe when I'm at uni and i have more free time and a car! and abit more confidence.

My mixed feelings on the meeting people online, do it with care and cautiously .

Well as you probably all know Bluebird is my best friend, known her for more than half my life now . Shes great but when I discovered she had ran away to Sweden to meet TK,
I was shocked , concerned but shes an adult and can make her own choices without me sticking my big face into the matter.

The Kinslayer is friendly, trustworthy and hes proven that Christine was fine where she went ,when she was with him she was safe. Sure I was confused by it all but am fine and if she chooses to go again I might tag along lol x

I´m sure we´ll meet sooner or later be it in Sweden or Scotland. *hugs*
I have met quite a few people from online so while there is always that inital but of uncertainty, I think I see it as meeting people and building relationships of any sort any other way....some times it works and some times it doesn't.

In my own sense, when I first moved to Glasgow...I went through online means to meet friends to hang out with, it's cheaper than joining a class of some sort and I would assume safer than hanging out in a bar until you build (or drink) enough courage to talk to people.

Sounds like the "normal" thing. But for me it depends on the person but the thing with meeting just two people is that you can´t hide (yes, some peolple get the need for that). The bigger the group the easier it is to "shy away" if it feels like the thing to do. You know I wouldn´t mind meeting you aussie (you know how much I care for you) but we´re so different that meeting on our own would most likely never work.

*Once again mumbles something about not having meets in Finland*

Since I don´t know you well enough I guess there´s a reason you can´t go to a meeting anywhere else?

Always. You all need to take care of yourselves no matter what. Most people will react with worrying when it comes to meet someone you´ve never meet before and especially if you´re going alone. Most times it´s no big deal even if things don´t work out between yourself and the one you´re meeting but as we all know some horrible things happens sometimes. But nothing´s completely safe. You can get into serious trouble going clubbing or getting killed crossing the street. Just make sure you do your best to protect yourself.

Yeah! More people = better party ;)
I think disappearing to another country and not letting anyone know where you're going is highly irresposible.

If anything had happened to my sister, and this isn't a personal attack Tobias, it would have looked very suspicious, don't you think?

I mean, she lifted all her money from her account, first of all, that's f-cking stupid, what if she got lost? Or got mugged? She also didn't take her mobile phone. Her whole family was scared shitless, she was very selfish, you both were, I don't trust either of you.

I think talking to people online is great, but I don't know.. It's not the same as getting to know a person face to face, people that are my friends, and people I have fell in love with are people that make me excited to be around them, their spark and the way they talk, the way they present themselves.

Bluebird disagrees: I think you're wrong

Wanna explain why? You know, since you haven't even came home and talked to any of us? And I have to talk to you through an internet forum?? Eh??

I won´t take the whole discussion here but as it played out Jen and her parents "should" react something like this. Just shows that they care. And lets not forget that´s a good thing. I just hope they can keep the discussion on a civil level and not let it go out of hand.
