Melaka/Harth first twins?!?

I just read on Wikipedia that on average 1 in every 80 births is a twin. Since Slayers have existed since 7,000 BC (at least) and the average Slayer lives 3 years... there must have been at least 3,000 Slayers between the First Slayer and Faith. Statistically, that means there have been approximatly 36 twins. The chances that there were 0 twins are almost 0. If we take 50,000 BC to be the year the first Slayer was created, there must've been already 17,000+ Slayers, making for a probable 208 twins... Anyway... my point is... it seems unlikely Melaka and Harth were the first twins. Do you think in all other pairs the division of power was the same? What if both were female? What about triplets (or more)?

Well Slayers are different from other human beings, so its possible that Melka and Harth were the first twins. And the entity that chooses slayers probably chose non twins.

Agreeing with Primal Slayer here. It would seem likely, given what happened in the case of Fray and her brother, that the whole twins issue is a big problem when it comes to a slayer being chosen. Therefore if there is any conscious decision or design behind which potential is activated at a given time then you would imagine that the choice will be made to go with a girl who is not one of twins, or triplets or whatever.

Up until the events of Chosen, at any given time there were hundreds, maybe thousands, of potentials who could be activated. If we assume that whenever a slayer died the most appropriate next girl was chosen then you could also assume that any of the possible girls who was also a twin would not be activated.

The question would then become, if all that was true, why change the rule when Fray was activated? Perhaps in that case, at that specific time and place, Melaka was the correct girl to be activated and the fact she was a twin was overruled.

Again, all this depends upon excepting that there exists a sentient force that chooses who the next slayer will be, but given the nature of the destiny of a slayer, i think that is a likely possibility. Something out there is guiding the slayer line. We just don't know what that something is yet.
