Seeing as though we have already got 2 long threads for members to post their pics on it was suggested, in one of our lengthy and strange MSN chats the other night, that someone ought to make a website on one of the many free hosting sites around, where we could have a gallery of all the Buffy-Board members rather than keep having threads in here.

I actually think this would be a really nice idea, and obviously only people that visit Buffy-Boards are likely to see them, as there would be a link to the gallery from within the board - it's not like we're gonna advertise the site on every search engine 'lol'

I'm all up and ready to get this underway if you lot are up for it too and are willing to mail me your pics which I will then put up in a gallery.

So, what do you think, good idea or no? 🙂
 
Oooo.. I think it's a perfect idea. I've seen this type of thing on a few other boards, and it sort of makes it feel like you're looking at a family album online. Wether you like it or not, we're all apart of a twisted family we like to call Buffy Fandom.

As soon as I can get my picture onto my computer, I'm sending it to you.🙂
 
I think that would be a great idea. Being a newer member, I was looking at everyone's pictures in hopes of being able to sort everyone out! 🙂 So I think it would be a nice, easy way to see what someone that you've been chatting with looks like!
 
lol I like how you put twisted family 5by5 and Cordelia mentioned about a 'strange' MSN conversation....it makes us all sound to be a bunch of weirdos that should be commited to an asylum 😉

This would be a good idea as it would keep it all in the one place and new members can easily be added.
 
yall make important decisions on msn chat don't you...i guess its the same for men and the toilet...

I love this idea! And then hopefully, i will be able to get a better picture up there, not the one of me with the cookie in my mouth from my daddy's website! HA! 😀

sorry im sure you spend lots of time planning and thinking this through high up on the god like admin clouds you get but it will fail!

i've seen boards do this before and before long half their members have left and been replaced with new ones (circle of net life and all that)

"but great Faldor" i hear you cry "we really want to see pictures of each other surely as you stay up late posting crap like this you must have a better idea"

and i do

would it not work better to have a place in each members profile for a pic, so in 6 months you wont wade through people you cant remember or who barely posted?

plus if members hosted it on their own it would save that magic bandwith stuff which i dont understand but sounds very important?!?

thats my suggestion anyways 🙂

The site will not be using up the boards bandwidth as it will be on its own individual url. And what is the problem of leaving old members pictures up there, some people will still remember them, and they may come back. There is always the alternative to making sure that it is up to date, and delete those pics of people that have not been on for a certain period of time.

I will put the idea of the pics in profiles forward but it all depends on whether there is a hack like this. We had it on another board for all of a week as it made things load slowly.

Terry - We don't have anything like this currently on TDP.

We don't have a website and the previous threads we had on TDP for pics would have been in the OT forum which is no longer there.

Unless it was hosted by someone else, I think I recall Xeri setting one up but not sure if its still active offline as its not on the boards currently.
 
I'm tending to side with Faldor on this one. Surely the young, pretty and vain amongst us could use their own pic as an avatar (should they feel that confident😉).
Personally speaking, I don't want to inflict my old, bald, wrinkly tubbiness on anyone - there may be children watching 😉 For god's sake think of the children! 🙂

Let it be said, that you wouldn't HAVE to post a pic...

Also, just a suggestion, but I think there should be an alphabetical index or something if this is gonna work. This way, members wouldn't have to sort through other piccies...just look it up according to letter for the members they actually care to see.
 
i didnt mean have your pic as your avatar (god no, i know what some of you look like!😉 )

more like go into a persons profile and have a link to a pic 🙂
 
Sarah (Cordelia) actually suggested the same sort of thing to me this morning, as an alternative to having a website as such. Her idea, if at all possible, would be to add a button like for example the 'www' button that links to members personal websites if they have them - the one you can see on each members post where applicable.

The members would send their photo's to Cordelia, she would upload them on a seperate website, and then the url of the pic could be added to the new field in the members profiles, ie like your msn addy etc. That way then the button would only be visible if the member had linked to a pic, it doesn't use up the boards bandwidth, other members don't have to search through loads of pics to find who they want, they can just click on the appropriate button, and then it's not important to keep the pics updated as members come and go.

We just need to find out now if it is feasible to add a feature like this to the edit profile section, as this may work better than anything else. 🙂 🙂
