"Merrick" and "Drogyn"

Please forgive me if this is the wrong sub- forum to post this thread, but I did not see one better suited for this question.

My question is, why do so many banners and status' say "Merrick" and Drogyn"? I know of the characters, but it confuses me that some of the members of BB treat them as factions and take sides. I know theres something I'm missing here, could someone clear it up?

Merrick and Drogyn are two of the dorms, or houses, here on Buffy Boards. We have 4 all together: Merrick, Drogyn, Vahla Ha'Nesh, and Raiden: all named after characters (or a place, in VH's case) in the Whedonverse. People sport their house/dorm name in signatures to show dorm pride.
The dorms are the Buffy Boards spin on the Harry Potter dorms, and they're a really fun way to get to know your fellow board members in a smaller atmosphere and feel like you really belong to something here on the board. If you'd like to get sorted into a dorm, simply visit The Sorting Tome and ask to be sorted. You can't request which dorm you get; it's randomized by the Tome, which makes it more fun. 🙂
