Michael Douglas To Play Ant Man

I've never been a fan of Michael. He always just seemed to fall too short of his dad. That being said, it seems to me that an actor his age should be starring in "The Expendables 3" rather that as a Marvel superhero, even a retired one. Having said that,I guess this pretty well eliminates Ant Man from being in "The Avengers 2," unless they're going to show his new replacement there, then a few months later give the character's origin.

Just a question, since I haven't kept up with the Marvel comics universe in quite some time. Ant Man evolved into Giant Man, then Goliath, back when I was reading. Was that version of the character written out at some point?

Douglas is playing the retired version of Ant-Man, Hank Pym, and Paul Rudd is playing the currant Ant-Man, Scott Lang, so Rudd 's Ant-Man could still make it to The Avengers. I think the story revolves around the two coming face to face and dealing with that fall out.

I'm actually pleased about this casting. I used to think that superhero movies were too beneath certain actors, but it's nice that people like Douglas and Hopkins are proving me wrong.

This is a genius idea! I'm not super excited about the casting, but I dont dislike it, it seems like a good fit.

But more importantly we are getting a different version of an origin story, which have become quite stale now, we aren't stuck with someone getting powers they knew nothing about, he could just ask Hank a question if he wanted to know something.

Iron Man 1 is obviously just awesome as an origin, but between Hulk, Captain America, Green Lantern, Batman, Xmen, Daredevil, Superman and Fantastic Four - all the main comic book movies from the last 10 yeas , I though Thor had the best origin story cuz it was different from the rest, less like an origin story. So I hope this is along those lines.

I'm a little apprehensive. Not with the casting, which I think is rock solid, but with the notion of having Scott Lang as Ant-Man, and an actor as old as Michael Douglas portraying Hank Pym. I'm not really sure what is to be gained by not just making Paul Rudd Pym. He's in line age wise with the other Marvel heroes (maybe a tad older) and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a superhero movie nonetheless. It just seems a little strange to go with Lang, who isn't a major Marvel hero anymore, if he ever was. I mean, Hank Pym is a fairly iconic Marvel character. More than that, he's deeply, deeply flawed, which is something the current Avengers roster kind of lacks. Even Black Widow and Hawkeye, their supposed "darker" characters, are pretty clean-cut.

Can't believe Edgar isn't leading this any more.

I was getting more excited for this as we went on, and He's been attached for years.

I'd love to know the full story of what happened, Marvel always seemed like it let the directors have lead on decisions.
Now maybe they didn't, but each movie was very different from one another it always felt like each director was in charge.

Hope this isn't the first chink in the armor!

The casting doesn't really bother me. They got Hopkins, Redford, William Hurt and Jeff Bridges in the other Marvel movies, why not have Michael Douglas. I also don't really know much about Ant-Man, but I'm curious to see what thy do with the movie. Seems kind of like a lame superhero, if all he can do is grow and shrink. But again I don't know his story.
