Nebraska-based artist Cindy Chinn makes entire locomotives and tunnels all by herself, albeit just not the life-sized ones you’re thinking of. Using a pencil, Chinn skillfully carves out the wood and lead to form a train, its tracks, and the tunnels it passes through. The sculptures are so small, you’d need a magnifying glass to appreciate their tiny, intricate details.
‘I started with a regular carpenter’s pencil and carved away some of the wood, and used the lead to create a train’, Chinn explains. ‘This piece was designed using straight lead pieces for the rails, with the tiny carved train placed and securely glued on top of the rails’.
