I was under the impression that Dawn had not properly unloaded and put up a crossbow, maybe left it leaning against a bookcase. Something caused it to fall and accidentally fire . . .

MKF was soooooo cute, though. Looked like one of my kitties - Cool Papa Bell.

I wonder why they couldn't just keep Miss Kitty around? The writers, Joss, etc. Let her pop up from time to time. Why kill her off?

Poor Miss Kitty. I named a stray cat in my neighborhood Miss Kitty Fantastico in her memory. She might be a he, but oh well.

They probably sort of forgot about her, and then realized (perhaps due to some nitpicky fan mail) that they needed to tie up that loose end.

I always assumed that Clem went off his diet and gave in to Miss Kitty which is why she's never mentioned again and Clem uses the impending apocalypse as an excuse to flee town. 😀

LOL The mental image of that reminds me of an aunt I had who was mental... She had 3 birds when I was little and she killed all of them by squeezing them to death... She thought she was loving on the birds. It's not really funny, but I am kinda warped, so... 😉

I always imagined it was a younger Dawn who was messing with the crossbow, left it somewhere, and by some freak accident, poor Miss Kitty was taken down. Around S5-ish.. which was the last time we saw that. Also explains why Buffy didn't want Dawn to mess with her stuff. Ever.

I never took Dawn's comment to necessarily mean MKF died, nor that Dawn necessarily was the one who left a weapon laying around. All the Scoobies were guilty of being willy nilly with weapons, so it could have been anyone, and that Dawn simply learned from the incident.

Miss Kitty's not necessarily dead, she could have just been badly harmed with a crossbow at some point or other since they got her. She could have just been given away after Buffy's death, because Willow and Tara decided not to take a cat to the Summers' residance. I mean, they had her in season 5 and then by season 6, when Buffy was dead, she was gone, so that could be the reason. It's a nicer reason than her being dead. 😉
