Missed opportunity for The First

Is it just me or did the First give up a major opportunity to mess with Buffy's mind? We saw how it could imitate all of the big bad's mannerisms and speech. Wouldn't it have been more advantageous for the First to use the Big Bad's to make Buffy go crazy? Just think of the reaction if she saw Glory, Adam or the Mayor standing from afar and just disappear before she gets there.

This could have worked for the other scoobies as well. Tara and Warren for Willow, Joyce for Dawn, Jenny for Giles, Jesse or Dracula for Xander, some of the people Anya has killed for her.

I think that would have been far more damaging than anything else the first did to the Scoobies.

Although I think the First's transformation into the Big Bad's was one of my top five favorite scenes in BtVS.

Yes, I thought it odd that they finished with the Big Bad sequence. I was SO excited about that when I saw it the first time, because I was thinking, "WHAT the HECK is THAT going to be??" Then they never really used that ability for anything.

Maybe. But the First did show up as the big bads. Right, it was Spike they appeared in front, not Buffy. But script wise it would seem a little of a stretch. Story wise, I guess you're right.

I feel like the season 7 as a whole was a big whopping miss. I liked it I really did, but as it being the last season of Buffy, it was kind of a let down. I was hoping for something HUGE to happen and the First was big, yeah; but I feel like there could have been a better enemy.

This could have worked for the other scoobies as well. Tara and Warren for Willow, Joyce for Dawn, Jenny for Giles, Jesse or Dracula for Xander, some of the people Anya has killed for her.

I totally agree!!! I thought they could have used the First sooo much more with that specific power! Which, granted, I'm sure logistics were involved (getting the actor/actress, money, time...) but man, it would have been really cool. In fact, I would have loved Conversations With Dead People to be each character talking with who they think is a spirit/ghost (as you said, Jenny for Giles, Jesse for Xander, Joyce for Buffy/Dawn, and Tara for Willow) of someone they love, and then at the end realize it was the First. It would have been so cool. But again, we already know they couldn't get Amber Benson so maybe they had an idea like this all along, but never could get it together. I just think it would have been so powerful. I can picture the end where they start to realize it really wasn't who they thought it was, but an the First posing as them. Man, it would have been such a twist.

It's all because of the stupid potentials! They didn't leave room for a normal big bad and his plans, didn't leave room for the main characters who, let's face it, are actually interesting, didn't leave room for everything that could have happened in such short time. If we're looking for someone to blame, I blame the potentials.

It did try to mess with Buffy's mind near the end of the season.
