Wouldn't it be cool if Joss decided to let someone create an mmorpg for the Buffyverse. There would be enough playable character types, Slayer, Watcher, Vampire, Witch, Soldier, Human, Demon. The only problem might be the fact that the buffyverse is the real world with a twist. So it would just be a world, the world, with Buffy things put into it, would still be a kick to play ^_^ Wish someone would think of this and create it ^_^ even if it would take a few years it would be awesome! Star Wars has one, Star Trek is getting one, Stargate is getting one, Firefly i hear is getting one?? why not the better of all the shows ^_^ Buffy!! :coolman: *does a dance of wishes* :lmao:

DND style? Please elaborate as I'm interested in what you're talking about.

And yes, a MMORPG would be the best thing that ever happened. Seriously. 😀

^_^ yea!!
Mmorpg is so much bigger, it's online on the computer, you would make your own character choose things about them and play as them with other people around the world. It would be amazing!

I tend to dislike MMORPGs for a couple of reasons:

1. There are too many idiots on those things.
2. I don't like playing games with people I don't know (I never played Diablo II online for that same reason).
3. They're addicting. I've done a lot of research on this sort of thing for various papers and theses, and you'd be amazed how many people lose jobs/friends/family/their LIVES over these things.

That said, I think a computer-based RPG would be very interesting. The Buffy X-Box games are okay, but you don't get to develop the character the way you can in and RPG.

Yup, nearly got roped into one earlier this year, glad I didn't
addicting to people who are susceptible, anyway. I wouldn't worry yourself over it.

Yes, there are idiots (diablo 2 is SO much fun though and 95% of the time ive had great companions).

However, MMORPG's don't appeal to me because most of them have that monthly fee on top of the price of the game and i just don't think any of them so far have been worth my money. But if there were a buffy one... id glady spend it (waiting a couple of months to hear reviews though). I think itd be sooooo awesome.

Train to be a slayer, or take up as a watcher, or even just own a magic shop or something, be a demon and possibly someone else's minion or make yourself a big bad and try to recruit your own minions... the possibilities would be awesome.

AND itd be cool if the main characters of the show were NPCs, and not just stationary but would move around in the world, so maybe you could run into Cordelia on school campus and then later in the Bronze or something... and possibly these NPCs could give quests and such, if you want to play in that way (many of these games you can just run around and do what you like, ignoring quests completely if they don't suit you).

hmmm the wheels in my brain are turning

The thing being, they build these games to be addicting. And if someone doesn't have a good sense of balance (psychologically, not physically), they can get sucked in before they know what's happening and end up like my friend's brother who lost his job 3 years ago, still lives with his mom (he's in his thirties) and hasn't bathed in a few weeks. All because he's playing WoW nonstop. And you don't have to have a disorder--like OCD--to find yourself in this position; Obsessive Compulsive tendencies are quite enough.

Oh i know this. I just took a concepts in gaming class this past semester and we discussed this for a few classes, about the addiction and psychology behind MMORPGs. But we also discussed that the actual occurrences are far less than the media portrays... however thats not to say it still isn't a serious problem or that it ISN'T happening.

It might make one or two people who can't stop themselves and love the show go crazy and loose themselves ^_^ but the other 90-99% of the people won't 'loose there jobs' they'll have a great time trying to experience the Buffyverse which every one of us wants to 😀 But I wouldn't show the game to people like the guy you described, we wouldn't want anyone to loose there lives over a game. But for everyone else They'd love it 😀

As long as it'd be free, I'd be up for it xD It's sounds like a good idea, but I doubt it'll ever happen =/ Though I'm hardly ever right, so it could 😛

Actually, it's a much bigger problem than you'd think. It's a big enough problem that people (psychologists, etc) are doing entire studies on it. If you go to Google Scholar (since you probably don't have access to the MLA database or PsychArticles or any of the other journal databases that I do, being a college student with library-granted access) and type in "MMORPG addiction" you'll get about 180 articles about it. But for a brief overview, go here.

Here's some of the highlights:
Most players can play casually and never have a problem, but an estimated six to 20 percent of players play to the exclusion of such essential activities as work, school, family responsibilities, and even eating and sleeping. Reports of failed marriages, neglected families, lost jobs, derailed educations, and even suicide have appeared in the medical literature and the lay press. Attempts to stop playing can result in a withdrawal syndrome consisting of restlessness, depression, vivid dreams about the game, anger, and excessive sleep.

Persons with this disorder exhibit behaviors usually associated with drug and alcohol dependence, including a need for increasing amounts of exposure to the substance (i.e., the game), denial of the adverse effects it has on their lives, repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop playing, and continued playing in the face of serious consequences such as divorce, job loss, and school failure.

This is not to say that a Buffy MMORPG wouldn't be great fun, but the dangers of such a format are real.

Maybe I'm biased because I've played a few mmoprg's and I've never become so addicted that anything like the above happened, I can see that maybe If a Buffy mmorpg came out it might be different because I love the show so much, but I doubt me personally would 'loose it' maybe others would, but I only know about myself personally.

See, that's good. You'd probably be fine if you haven't already lost yourself in something like this before. But there are tons of people that do get sucked in and destroy their lives (and sometimes lose them), as well.
