Mockingjay Part I

Anyone seen the movie? I'm a pretty big Hunger Games fan so of course I was there as soon as it was out in theater (and of course I did a full marathon prior)!

So far, I heard a lot of critiques saying the split was a bad idea and that this movie was not as good as the first two. I disagree with that, it'll need some time for it to sink it, but it's definitely on par, or maybe even better, than the first two. My only complaint is that it was too short.

Mickingjay was my least favourite of the books, but I like what they did here. The movie was heartbreaking, and I'll take that any day over an action packed movie (which this was not, nor was it meant to be). Gotta hand it to J Lawrence, she did a phenomenal job in the role. I know that this is no contender for an Oscar (YA movie, dah), but this might be one of JL's best performance to date. Josh also surprised me, in the first movie, I thought he was miscast as Peeta, but I retract that statement. He's perfect for the role.

I can't wait to see this. My sister and I go every year to see the movies, so she is waiting for me to come down and visit so we can see this one. Unfortunately I' stuck working a lot because of the holidays we have so many sales going on, its crazy. So we might have to watch it separately. I'm glad that you really liked it, because the 3rd boo was my least favorite as well, so I'm worried about these last two books. And yea, I hear Jennifer Lawrence is great in this. I actually thought Josh was a perfect Peeta from the beginning, glad he's doing better.

haha I had the same deal with my mom, but being sick, working, and living 7h away...I broke our deal, oops. I think Mockinjay does work better as a movie in many ways, it definitely feels less rushed than the book, which was my number 1 issue with it. I think the message is also a bit stronger in the movie. But aside from that, it's pretty dam close to the book, the whole series has been one of the closest adaptation I've seen, it's very well done.

Rewatching the Hunger Games now, I do agree that Josh was a great choice. I think the reason I disliked him at first is because I saw the first movie before reading the book, and I had so much of his character wrong. I don't really know why that is, because rewatching now I think Josh does a really good job, and the adaptation is faithful to the character.

Also, I have to say, the opening of the movie might just be my favourite opening out of any movies.

Yes, movies, especially the 2nd movie are great adaptations. I understand the stuff that they did leave out wasn't really necessary but I think the first movie could have been 10 or 20 minutes long, because once they got into the area it felt a little rushed to me. When I think in the book it was suppose to be around 1-2 weeks right? Yea I finished reading the first book the night before I saw the first movie in theatre. So Josh was pretty much what I pictured Peeta, kinda short and stocky, with blonde hair and super sweet. I think Peeta was suppose to be a little bit bigger, with his muscles but thats ok I still bought that he was strong. And he added his own charm to the role to. Liam Hemsworth I didn't initially see as Gale, nor J. Law, but I was sold in the first movie. Its really a great cast. Woody Harleson as Haymitch and Elizabeth Banks as Effie are perfect. Lenny Kravitz as Cinna I totally didn't see, but my sister really thought he was perfect so maybe I remember him differently in the books. I should buy the books to read again.

Also, I have to say, the opening of the movie might just be my favourite opening out of any movies.

I agree, the first movie could have been a bit longer. They skipped a lot of the small stuff in the arena, I think some of it has to do also with them wanting a PG13 rating. The ending especially felt really rushed, and they removed the best parts of the book, but again it's understandable why they did so. Sadly, it resulted in an ending that seems a bit silly in the movie, because you don't feel the urgency of Peeta dying. Or the impact of the mutts.

I'm a bit sad that I read the books after the first movie, because I never really got to picture the characters for myself. But I agree that the casting is great. And the actor playing Finnick is exactly how I pictured him in the book, so at least there's that.

Yes, for Mockingjay Part I 🙂 Any movie that succeeds in making half the theater cry in the first 5 minutes has a pretty solid opening in my opinion (lol, and no I'm not kidding, every one around me was whipping tears away).

Sadly, it resulted in an ending that seems a bit silly in the movie, because you don't feel the urgency of Peeta dying. Or the impact of the mutts.

Yea that's what I mean. If they had spent more time and we got the sense that they had been in the cave for days not just like one night, and if they explained the mutts better, but still is a great movie.

See I pictured him more like Liam, taller and sleeker, but I love the guy that plays Finnick! He's so cute and charming and does a great job.

Oh that means my sister is going to cry. lol. Any movie that can make me cry is a good movie.
