My wife, I, and a few old semi-retired folks were talking about the changes we've seen in our day to day lives (not the "big" stuff, just the conveniences we have) and the big two that we mostly agreed on were cell phones. So, I was just wondering. What kind of changes in the common everyday life of Joe Public do you anticipate by the time you reach 60 or so?

Hmmm long time to 60, but I think it's either gone to hell or the other way around(means we pulled ourselves together and decided to save the planet.)

But I think that instead of computers, we'll have contact linses allowing us to go online 😛

And cell phones are outdated. Now we can communicate telepatchic

just what i was thinking ;)
That's 41 years from now. I expect a certain upgrade in TV. Like on Star Trek, with the Holodecks, something like that.
I hope that cars will have changed majorly, cos they need the change.
Then I hope for a lot of medical improvement. Cure to some major diseases, like Aids and cancer, would definitely be desireable.
And I hope that 41 years from now a lot of political issues will be resolved.

Holodecks!! Yeah!!!
I doubt anything will be different by the time I reach 60, which is about 39 years away, pfft.. maybe they'll have invented fat-free butter, or something. Either that or we'll all be dead because the nuclear war between America and Russia killed us all.

I'm stamping my feet and throwing my toys out of the pram until the 21st Century starts living up to the expectations I had for it when I was a lad...where are the hover cars, personal jet packs, Pan-Am flights to the Moon, whole meals in a pill and all those things that should have been common by the time I reached 50...
...and I now officially hate all of you who have more than ten years to go 'til age 60 😉

Meanwhile back on topic, I think that in the ten years or so until I reach the big 60 there will be some major medical advances in regard to cures for the big killers like cancer and heart disease (but, on the downside, I suspect that there will also be some major medical disasters in the pipeline, such as more drug-resistant infections).

Honestly? I think the everything like cars, phones, tv's etc will be just like they are now only smaller and shinnier.

Politically I expect it to be much the same. History dictates that there is always some war that is going to be fought, there will always be some corrupt government pissing the rest of the world off and the there will still be people living in blissful ignorance about it.

I agree with the others who said there would be cures for diseases like and Cancer and AIDS but I think it will be met with another deadly disease.

I'd like to see Ireland win the Rugby World Cup...

Oh and Roy Keane would be entering his 20th season as Manchester United manager.

Personally, I would like to hope Ireland would be closer to reunification if not reunited already. Every generation that passes it seems closer and closer. It would be an honour to see that happen before I die.

Now, that's something that I never thought of. We could go slaying with Buffy, Spike, and the gang. We could help Angel and his crew help the helpless...Shades of Lt Worf!!!

We are taking steps towards that anyway with consoles like the Wii. It's very much a possibility in 41 years time, probably less.

If I'm still around by then, wanna go patrollin' with me?
The wii is a great step towards gaming as before you would sit infront of a screen for hours and thats not good for you - now you can play and be active at the same time.

Personally I would love to see teleports so I could live in one country and work in another. When I was a kid at watching The Jetsons I always thought we would be like that by the year 2000. I mean look at the old Lost in Space tv show and what they thought the 90s would be like.

What I hope is that by the time I'm 60, the whole world has turned vegetarian.... but my expectation is that the most impressive marvel will be an XXL Hadron Collider built in a circle around the moon creating one blackhole a day for us to throw prisoners is.

According to Trek invention dates..

Warp Drive: April 6th 2063
Transporter: 2150
Phaser: Circa 2196
Holodeck: 2363

Don't hold your breath 😉

Although television still exists. Data mentioned all digital and analog television was shut down in late 2040. But was succeeded by a new type of transmission system, and so on until the modern day (2379) when we see the Federation News Service is still going so presumably so is other "television", its just not known by that name since its no longer televised transmission.
