This is in no way a blatant rip off of the Angel thread floating about the place *ahem*... but yeah.

What are the key moments, small or otherwise, that make you love Spike as a character?

Every single one! Seriously, whenever I see Spike, I get giddy. haha but the one that's in my head right now is his speech to the Scoobies in Touched where he yells at them for kicking Buffy out.

"Is everyone here very stoned?!" from 'The Weight of the World'. I LOVE that scene.

I also love him throughout 'The Gift', especially when he cries seeing Buffy's body. Vise around my heart, geez!

I love Spike/Xander interaction, Spike/Angel interaction, Spike/Giles interaction, Spike/Buffy interaction...see a pattern? 😀 I just love the general snarkiness he brings. It feels like it challenges everyone else to step up their game.

Oh, the stoned scene is so good!
Oh Xander/Spike moments reminded me of when Spike was stealing Xander's radio and Xander was like "hey that's my rado!" and Spike was like "and you're surprised? I'm evil!"

That scene in WOTW makes me laugh every time I watch it, it's a brilliant bit of light relief from all of the darkness at that point.

You're right, I love how Spike seems to always know how to get a good reaction out of those he interacts with. His bickering with Xander and Andrew is brilliant.

The scene that made me fall in love with him as a character was probably in Something Blue when he's chained to the bathtub drinking out of the novelty mug. Obviously he's pretty great in the rest of the episode (for other reasons), but the whole beginning bit never fails to make me smile.

Oh, and "You made a bear!"

I love this part in season 2, when Buffy asks "Do we really need weapons for this?" and Spike says "I just like them, you know? They make me feel all manly." and runs his hand down his chest, It was this moment that I realized how extremely sexy James Marsters is.

Pouts. I started this new hip thread with my "Small moments that make you love Xander" thread. 🙁

I love when Spike offers Xander some onion rings because he's blue. That's adorable. Also, saying that Xander's blood is tastier than onion rings. Now that makes the Spander in me dance with joy. 😀

His speech in Touched to Buffy <33 AMAZING!!

His scene at the end of Beneath you! God that makes me cry so much.

Basically every scene Spike cries in breaks my heart <3

I love your banner.
Spike is amazing in each and every aspect, scene, interaction with others... He's so damn charismatic that every scene with him is art. No, I'm not making him overrated, he is simply amazing. And it's not just the girly me talking, I look into his soul (haha!) and see the whole package. When he's bad, when he's good, love's bitch, enemy, when he cries, when he smiles. And so on!! Am I too excited about him? hell yeah!

The moment I truly fell in love with Spike, and saw him as more than the injured puppy-type character, was the scene on the back steps of Buffy's house, where he comforts her after finding out her mom was dying. That simple gesture of him laying his hand on her shoulder was just so beautiful.

That's one of my favorite Spuffy moments.

This. Also the other great moments:

Being a "Passions" fan and talking about it w/Joyce
The Wheetabix comment
Him and Xander stealing the lettterman jacket
His quote, which I use quite a bit "I'm paralyzed by not caring very much"

In the Angel flashback when Angel gets his soul and Darla tells the gypsy she'll spare his family in the wagon if they take Angel's soul back . . . just them Spike comes out of the wagon, blood on his mouth and burps. Darla gives him the stinkeye and he says "What?"

I was agreeing with too much so i decided to do my own list 🙂

-on Buffys back in 'fool for love'
-...actually Fool for love in general
-Giles and Spike interactions
-How he looks after Dawn
-Harsh light of day just...phwoar 🙂
-When he tells buffy he saved her every night after it mattered
-..actually im going to be here all day..every moment pretty much 🙂

oh oh one of the funniest moments is Buffy going to rocket launch Wood's arse and seeing him jump on her and chasing each other in the background 😀

AND season 7 Spuffy in general how they are the ones who are looking out for each other 🙂

Cause he's Out For A Walk. Bitch.

Cause of His face in After Life.

Cause If His heart could beat, it would break His chest.

Cause he wanted to dust Dru for Buffy.

Cause he killed the 'annoying' one.

Cause he calls Angel 'tall, dark & forehead.'

Cause he drew a picture of Angel and put it on his punching bag.

Cause he made Harmony role play as Buffy.

Cause he thinks people are like Happy Meals with legs.

Cause he didn't kill Joyce when he had the chance.

Cause he likes mini marshmallows in his hot chocolate.

Cause he can't miss Passions cause Timmy is stuck in the bloody well.

Cause he adds wheat-a-bits to his warm blood, it adds a little texture.

But mainly, cause although he talks a big game about wanting to kill Buffy and all her friends, he would never do it. And I firmly believe that.

I love and admire everything about Spike-especially his flaws.

What I particularily like about him, though, is his wit, his bravery, and how he wears his heart on his sleeve. His abilty to evolve, and incredible capacity to love without reserve, is nothing short of remarkable.

A key moment for me in in Sleeper, when Spike, though obviously ashamed, admits honestly that Buffy is still all he thinks about. Also, in Afterlife- the look on his face when he sees Buffy is nothing short of actor's genius. There is both wonder and awe in his eyes, and it's obvious that she is his world.

Another moment is in S8, when he calls her his "hero." Gives me fuzzies, that line.

I was never a huge Spuffy fan (even though I do like the 'ship), but this moment brought tears to my eyes the first time I watched it... You're right; you can see in Spike's eyes everything he's feeling, and it's amazing to watch. In that moment, you forget your watching a TV show because James makes you believe he's real and his feelings are real.

I think Spike has some of the best lines and arcs of the whole series. He is complicated, all over the place, and just plain old entertaining! He's all evil, a creeper, a love-sick pup, a lecturer, a lover, a fighter, crazy as heck, noble, a soldier...all kinds of things all in seven seasons! I have a ton of quotes I love from him, but I won't list them all here. 🙂

I said this on a skype call with some BBers last night... but the thing about Spike is that James plays him in season 2 on a level that the character just wasn't written at. He gives Spike more layers than was written... and therefore, it intrigues the viewer. Then when he was brought back, the writers noticed James' amazing talent for playing a character with CRAZY layers so they started writing them. But it's James and his crazy ability to be a complex character.

As for little moments, I love it when he does something that's just so quintessentially James. I can't think of any examples right now, 'cause they're really small and they're all the time. I used to say James did things that were just so Spike... but now I see it's the other way around. And I think that's a lot due to the fact that James looks at Spike as himself when he was younger. (which is also probably why Spike had so many layers in James' mind and that he played even when they weren't written in season 2)

I agree... it seems that the silly poses (behind Joyce in "becomming part 2" or in "restless" are very james
