Moments That Make You Love Spike

Okay, so obviously no one enjoys that one moment where the writers stuck their heads up each others asses and almost destroyed the show.

I think it would be easier if I just listed the Spike moments I didn't love.

I said this on a skype call with some BBers last night... but the thing about Spike is that James plays him in season 2 on a level that the character just wasn't written at. He gives Spike more layers than was written... and therefore, it intrigues the viewer. Then when he was brought back, the writers noticed James' amazing talent for playing a character with CRAZY layers so they started writing them. But it's James and his crazy ability to be a complex character.

As for little moments, I love it when he does something that's just so quintessentially James. I can't think of any examples right now, 'cause they're really small and they're all the time. I used to say James did things that were just so Spike... but now I see it's the other way around. And I think that's a lot due to the fact that James looks at Spike as himself when he was younger. (which is also probably why Spike had so many layers in James' mind and that he played even when they weren't written in season 2)

YES - THIS! I can't believe that writers everywhere don't beg him to do more work. His acting abilities alone are amazing, but the way he manages to bring up and play off of the other actors around him really make him a one of a kind actor. And, second, James himself seems to be such an amazing person and that definitely bleeds (ha, ha) into his portrayal of Spike. Ooh... I need me a Spike fix!
 
I remember Joss sayin how Spike was his best character (one he was the most proud of)..I personally think its an example of fantastic casting..i dont think Spike would have made it out alive of S2 if James hadnt been playing him.
 
Lover's walk when spike says to angel and buffy:
"pike: You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood...blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it."

and when he is breaking into the magic box wiyh dawn and when he finally unlocks the door he says:
SPIKE: That's right! Who's bad now?
 
I will say that I usually don't let interviews or stories I hear about the actors who portray characters influence my opinion of their work.

But when all you hear is how genuinely humble and thankful James is for getting to play Spike; it's nigh impossible to stay objective.

One of the things on my bucket list is to work with James one day; and hopefully have a little jam session.

It's a shame some people have to age; because I truly think James would enjoy playing Spike for as long as people wanted to see him on screen; basically forever.

When Spike realizes that he can kill demons at the end of Doomed

When he kicks Woods ass and then goes into the bit about loving their mothers

When reveals to Buffy that "they put the spark in me and now all it does is burn."

As well as many of the moments mentioned above

I'll chime in again, just to reference what I've watched most recently. Season 5 Spike is probably my least favorite Spike, but I still adore him!

In "Triangle" he just has no shame while trying to wheedle information about the Slayer from anyone who has been in contact with her, and it cracks me up. Especially when the Watcher's Council goes to his lair and he starts flirting with the lady to see how Buffy is doing on her tests. HAHA.
 
I love anytime that he shows how perceptive he is. That's one of my favorite things about his character.

Like when he tells Angel and Buffy how they will never be friends and when he tells Buffy that Willow is definitely not doing ok.

Also when he calls Angel an Uncle Tom. Because I like to think that showcases how much he reads. Which once we find out what William was like, makes a lot more sense.

I love when Buffy walks into the crypt while he's reading too. Guys that read are hot. No joke.

Perceptive!Spike ftw
Oh gosh. I think I realized how much I loved Spike when Season 3 began and he wasn't there.

Favorite moments off the top of my head:
The very first Buffy/Spike interaction at the school where they meet.
"You made a bear!!"
Spike mocking Angel in Ats.
Spike turning to Buffy to "save the world" in Season 2.
Any Spike and Joyce interactions.

Oh, I just thought of one of my all time favorite moments for Spike.

When Buffy and Dawn are with him after he got beat up by Glory and they are talking about Willow and whether or not she'd be crazy enough to go after Glory.

And Spike says that he'd do it, if it were the right person, someone he loved . . . And it's not so much what he says, but the really shy way that he looks at Buffy and then looks away.

Like he's embarrassed to be admitting it. Really love him just then.

Yes, that's a great spike moment!!
 
I think the first moment that got me hooked on Spike was probably when he killed the Anointed One. That was just pure badass.
Other moments would be whenever he's being perceptive, alludes to his past, insists he's evil, and cute Spuffy moments. ^^

Not to forget how awesomely un-vampiric he was when he rose, and his first act was to turn his mother so he could save her from consumption. That was just... wow.

"Lover's Walk" <-- first time I ever seen this character/show and I nearly laughed my head off whenever he was onscreen. Great character, too bad they had to ruin him in S4-onwards

Any episode from S2.

Lover's Walk- I love how insightful and how he can see things others can't.

Fool For Love- Spike's backstory! 'nuff said.

The Backstep scenes- I love that the scenes are so intimate and quiet. I really felt that you can see his humanity

The end of Intervention- Again, humanity.

Buffy's death in The Gift- He cried and it made me want to cry. The fact that he cried shows that he's so much more than a soulless vampire.

Touched- It's such a beautiful moment. That night, all he did was hold her but there was so much chemistry and emotions in such a simple scene.
 
Definitely Lover's Walk like what most of the people said. I think just every part/moment in Lover's walk with Spike in it, was great. It made me love Spike. Yeah.😀
