I was worried at first that it would be a pure Angel ripoff, but after watching a few episodes, I began to really enjoy it. For some reason that I can't even begin to explain, Mick puts me more in mind of Duncan Macleod than Angel. Possibly because there was apparently no "dark" period in Mick's life as a vampire, and, like the Immortals, the "Moonlight" vampires have their own society with their own set of rules, and they mostly keep the normal humans in ignorance of their existence.

Anyhow, in answer to your question, yes, I would recommend it if you want a completely different vampire world that that found in the Buffy-verse.

I would recommend Moonlight, but do NOT watch it expecting to find the next Angel. It's a good show, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the writing and acting are just mediocre. I am upset that it was canceled so early, but what can you do?

I do think that if it had run for a longer time, the show would have become stale and they would've stolen even more Angel plotlines, but executed them much more poorly. In the span of 16 episodes, they pretty much made three copies of Angel storylines; the Coraline plot is just like the Darla plot, the Mick-made-human plot is just like the Angel-made-human plot, and they both acted as bodyguards for stalked celebrities for an episode (of course, Moonlight's versions were far worse, although they weren't terrible.) But even with these stolen plots (it's doubtable that the first two were mere coincidences, though the third could have been), Moonlight is a fairly unique show.

Regarding the DVD, I don't think I'd get it, but that's because I already have all of the episodes on iTunes.

I didn't realize until you mentioned it here that "Moonlight" had been canceled. All I can say is, "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of the network bean counters?" I absolutely HATE it when they end a series season with a cliff hanger, and then they have to go and cancel it without resolution. DA*N!

I know, I watched the last episode and was so annoyed that we'll never get to know what happens next. Grr........

It's definitely one that I would buy on DVD though as I thoroughly enjoyed the show. 🙂
