Oh, Germany England, what a game!

It was Wembley in reverse!



Needless to say I'm psyched Germany won. And they earned it! And what a nice goal from Poldi 😀
 
Yer I had to listen to the match on the radio as Abbie would not let me watch it on tv 🙁Shame that goal is not allowed, it might have helped....lol

I really don't understand why they don't use hawk eye, it would help in situations like this should there be a query. Of course looking back on the shot it clearly was in.

Another thing I don't understand in football at a national level, should the coach not be from the nation he is coaching?
 
Dearie me. Dearie, dearie me. England deserve to go out. We were dreadful. I've seen better defending in a playground. We had a couple of short spells of attacking potency, but Germany were just walking through our defence at will.

Anyone want Sven-Goran Eriksson back? Everyone complained about him, but of the 3 tournaments he coached us win, we reached the QFs every time and twice topped our group. Now Capello has come in, we finish second of an incredibly average group (possibly the easiest in the tournament) and get knocked out in the second round. Just the facts.

Yes, Lampard should've had a goal definitely. It's not even debatable, it was clearly several yards over the line. Best advertisement for goal-line technology I've ever seen - in fact I think this might spur the FA into introducing it into the English leagues, perhaps in the 2011/12 season, and then the rest of the world would probably follow suit. But Germany outplayed us anyway, and I hope that the goal-that-wasn't isn't used as an excuse - the English team need to acknowledge that we were absolutely awful at this world cup, no two ways about it.

(No, the coach does not have to be the same nationality.)
 
These huge misstakes by the refs is getting boring... now Mexico is getting their share. Of course, the huge misstakes by their own players doesn't help 😉

Would actually make sense to me if the coaches was under the same rules as the players. So you must have a coach from your own country. Not sure why that isn't the case.

Yep, football just isn't what it used to be.
These days a lot of players try to win an oscar for faking an injury.
Having refs who shouldn't be allowed to referee a game or linesmen who don't know the rules.
I reckon a referee and two linesmen for each half of the pitch and all the technology that is available.
But I shouldn't get away from the basics, there wasn't many teams who could play as a team, take England for instance.
A lot of highly skilled footballers in their normal team environment, but as a national team that meets a couple of times a year those players remain highly skilled individual players, not a team.
And while I'm having a rant about the state of the game.
FIFA are crap!
Fancy introducing a type of ball that is hard to control at best, all those crosses that are kicked to hard is because of the new ball design, it is lighter.
Many teams had never used that ball before where-as some teams had used it for years.
Now FIFA are going to stop using that type of ball, after the games.

It is a shame England didn't take the lead, I say that mainly because when the fans get going they drown out the noise of those ruddy awful horns. I need to turn the volume down low so that I don't get a headache.
About the England v Germany game, I thought Germany would win 5-0, the reason being as I said before. England do not play as a team.

Ghana to win. Or Germany, anyone but the 'hand of God' idiots the Argentinians.
 
Firstly i'll say that there's no question that Germany were the better team.

However if Lampard's goal is given it would have changed the whole game. If at half time its 2-2 then England don't have to commit men forward to chase the equalizer. Consequently Germany don't find it as easy to hit us on the break and score two goals.

Its so frustrating to think what might have happened. England would have had the confidence, the Germans would have been rattled.

The same thing can be said about the Mexico game. In this instance Mexico are the better team but then Argentina score from a goal that never should have stood.

As a result Mexico go behind are really deflated and go on to lose.

In other Sports thery get the major decisions right, whether its hawk eye in Tennis or instant replays in Cricket, Basketball, Hockey, American Football etc. Its time Football joined the party.

Otherwise your going to have situations where one team has an advantage because of an unfair decision and that makes a mockery out of the Sport.

I know its all ifs and butts but Mexico and England will both think that if the right calls had been made they could have been in the Quarter Finals. That simply shouldn't be the case in a World Cup.
 
That may be true. But our defending was atrocious even when we weren't commiting men forward, I couldn't see Germany not scoring again.
 
A valid point but momentum is key in any sport and instead of going in on a high note, our players were left dejected and felt they had to force the issue.

Credit to Germany though but i'll always look back on that game and think what might have been.
 
On the subject of England, I still feel even with the scoreline 2-2 that Germany would have still scored the next two goals due solely to the goals coming on the break from England's inabilty to take set pieces.

And with pretty much all the set pieces England would commit men forward because let's face it they're not letting it get into extra time with Germany. Still it was a great game to watch with Germany exploiting England's defensive frailties.

As for the Quarters, I expect/want Netherlands, Uruguay, Argentina and Spain to go through.

I reckon whoever wins out of Argentina and Germany will go on to win the tournament, like mentioned before momentum is key and a win for either, taking into consideration the other teams playing, would give the greatest surge of moral to either team.

I'd like Uruguay to win it though 🙂

I'm predicting Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Ghana in the semis. Argentina to beat Spain in the final.
 
If Argentina and Spain win their quarter final matches they will meet in the semis so that can't be the final unfortunately.

On another note. Liverpool finally got a new manager. As aspected it's Roy Hodgson. I'll write more about how I feel about it when I come back after the weekend. For now all I can say that I'm glad it's settled so we now can move on.

Great manager, I expect to see them back to form next season.
It's kinda weird how all people here assume Argentina's gonna beat Germany, in Germany it's the other way around.

Somebody started an event on Facebook called "sending Argentina home", at the time of the game...so awesome 😀

That said, both of my teams, Germany and the Netherlands, have a big chance of getting kicked out in the quarters, but on the other hand, both teams are strong enough imo to at least have a chance. So hoping for the best 😀

Germany have a good chance, I just want Argentina to win. I love Maradonna, I would marry him.

Germany are a strong team but I think Argentina just have too much quality.
I'am not convinced by the German defence. I think Argentina could cut them open with their great attacking players. In saying that i thought England would beat Germany.

In terms of Holland the same thing happens to them. There's always a disagreement in the camp which hurts them and this time its between Robin Van Persie and Wesley Sneijder two of their best players. Brazil are so well organized, i think they'll beat the Dutch.
