I choose no, I hate guns. I think swords and stakes are much cooler, though Buffy killing the Judge with a rocket launcher was badass 😛

It would have been cool to see Buffy throw some kind of wooding Shuriken at a Vampire though :O

None of the Scoobies can *build* a specialized 'Vampunition'
Yeah but wouldn't it help if you scratch a cross on the bullets? That would burn them from inside out! Or you let a prayer speak them holy like holy water?

At some point, it stops being believable that the vamps could win, and that ruins the entire show. A show where Buffy went around with a rocket launcher every day would be pretty boring after a while.

I've always thought that Buffy's preference in weapons, as well as her basic tactics, were more due to her teacher (Giles) rather than anything else. Giles could be compared to a martial arts instructor, in that he would almost certainly teach what is most familiar and efficient in his experience. Just like no two martial arts instructors, even if they teach the same style, they almost never teach exactly the same thing. Giles obviously preferred weapons that might be considered the traditional Slayer weapons, those that had proved their worth over centuries.

Wes, just as obviously, was more open to innovation and non traditional weapons, most significantly firearms and the sleeve sword that he seemed so fond of. Probably, Wes only gained his knowledge of and preference for more modern weapons first during his rogue demon hunter days after Season 3 of Buffy and before coming to work with Angel.
Interesting point White Avenger. It definitely makes sense that way with Giles leaving a strong impression on Buffy's fighting style and her choice of weaponry. I also looked at it from the perspective of discretion. By using melee weapons and crossbows they're able to operate under the radar better without drawing the attention of local authorities from loud gunfights.

Water pistols aren't modern weaponry though that would be more practical.

Why? What about a steel, black hydraulic-water-pistol? This would be ok for me! Like a version of the weapon Xander uses in the video game "Chaos-Bleeds". Just the design has to be more cooler.

Here's a thought, if Buffy started out as a gun toting Vampire Slayer, virtually all of the fight scenes would not have happened.
The varied armoury of medieval weapons wouldn't have been featured in the show.
What would have been the chances of season 1 ever going to air?
As it was, 7th Heaven beat the show initially. So the chances are, a gun toting Buffy would never have made it.
Allowing a tv show promoting young teenagers carrying guns in schools, which tv station would?
And lets face it, can you imagine Giles having a weapons arsenal in the library? How about C4 and land mines?

hahah...weapons arsenal...in the library.
I suppose a bow n arrow was like a gun to the slayer.

Well, a bow and arrow is a great weapon to someone who's trained to use one, like Buffy was. I have a few friends who are hunters that actually prefer to hunt with a bow and arrow than a gun, because they feel like they have better control over where the arrow is going than a bullet; maybe Buffy had similar thoughts.

No. No no no no no. Would they have used machine guns in the early seasons, in this scenario? Haha I loved that they used crossbows, axes, etc. the guns on Angel kind of annoyed me. I liked the rocket launcher because it was necessary and cool but I'm glad they kept it old school.

And I was thinking about tatoos: if vampires heal super-fast could they even get tattos after they were sired? So how does Angel have a tattoo?

Never thought about that...haha, interesting.
