Following her acclaimed performance on Homeland, which earned her an Emmy nomination, Morena Baccarin is returning to her genre roots with a role on Fox’sGotham. Baccarin has joined the cast of the Batman universe drama as a recurring this season and is slated to become a regular in Season 2.

She will play Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane. In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.

This marks Baccarin’s return to Fox where she co-starred on Joss Wheden’s Firefly. It was one of several cult sci-fi series Baccarin is known for, including Stargate SG-1and V, which was produced by Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind Gotham. She is repped by UTA, Seven Summits and JTWAMM.

I was just about to give up on Gotham (2 episodes in). It's not that bad, it just takes up time and I already have a lot of shows I like to watch and/or rewatch. I'll wait until Morena Baccarin's had a few episodes, to see if she can draw me in more.

She isn't in the show until the second season... that's a long way away!

Another reason for me to stop watching this show.

You don't have to stop watching it because I do..
Of course they are. It's always better to be unencumbered by the demands of the studio. What I think will be interesting is what the movie landscape will be like in 10 years. The same movies that blew the box office away will be the ones responsible for killing movies. Thats why shows like Gotham (see what I did there?) are really replacing movies in terms of storytelling. Not that Gotham is True Detective, but it served my illustration.

Not a bad show but it really needs to pick up the pace to hold my attention. Love that she is joining the show. Sounds like a similar plot to Harley Quinn. I wonder if that is something they might have planned down the road if they ever decide to bring in the Joker.

Yeah, it's basically about Batman's origins and the origins of his 'supporting cast' and his Rogue's Gallery.
I'm not sure about it- its good quality and quite well-acted but very slow, but that's generally the theme with prequel shows.
They either fill up stuff with lots of filler material (like Smallville) or inch along with their plots/development.

Unfortunatley its focussing a lot on The Penguin, who's pretty much my least favourite Bat-character. Bringing in Leslie Thompkins seems like a sound move, and they could bring in a few more cameos. (Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Rupert Thorne, etc)
