Most Disturbing Scene/Image in BtVS

Buffy The Vampire Slayer has a mixture of everything, from comedy, to action, to drama, you name it. I find the series surprisingly light on the horror, but there are some scenes that truly disturbed me. What is the most disturbing, controversial, or sickening scene in BtVS? Of course, the choices above are only skimming the surface, and I picked them because of the intense responses from fans, so feel free to pick "other", like I did. I picked this one:

The Dehumanization and Murder of Katrina in "Dead Things".

Granted, I was about 11 when I first saw this episode, I came back to the eppy years later and felt absoutely sick. Some people I know couldn't even watch Buffy anymore after that, not because it was a misstep of the writers, (IMO the entire episode is a masterpiece) but because it was so cruel and evil to watch Katrina, who was shown as being an independant woman, in charge of her own life, be a mindless slut to the sadistic Warren. The "Get on your knees" bit was so perverse, I can see why people had to take a break from Buffy for a while because it was too intense. The fact that she never had a chance made the scene even more horrible.

But that's just me. What are yours?

I think it would be seeing Joyce's dead body behind Buffy when she comes into the house in the end/beginning of "I Was Made To Love You" and "The Body"

Rape scene. It was hardest to watch. Xander losing his eye in second place. Maybe it'd be first if it wasn't over so fast.

Out of the choices given, I chose Seeing Red. Obviously, that scene is difficult for me to watch.

But the most disturbing image for me isn't on this list - it's Giles killing Ben in "The Gift." The coldness in which he suffocates him gives me chills, and what Giles says is one of my favorite quotes in the entire series - "She's a hero, you see. She's not like us."

I would have to say that Gnarl peeling off and eating Willow's skin was really disturbing to me. Having him call Willow a tasty little treat and the fact that Willow was unable to call out for help, move and her friends could not see her really freaked me out.

^^^^ What she said... That's one the creepiest scene on BtVS, without a doubt! One of the friends I got into the show got sooo turned off by it, she wanted to stop watching. 😱

I didn't find Joyce's body on the couch *disturbing*. Sad more than anything. Same for Giles finding Jenny. 🙁 Xander's losing eye? Mostly had me go WTF! And the attempted rape scene always seemed very out of character. I usually feel awkward toward the whole thing.

In Buffy vs. Dracula, it is really disturbing to me to see Xander eat the spider. I hate spiders, but it is just incredibly disgusting and makes my skin crawl. A main reason why I skip the episode.

Goes to Willow skinning Warren alive. Every other scene listed here I thought was organic and somewhat understandable - the scene with Warren was just shocking for me.

I went with Seeing Red because it's very hard to watch is probably the only thing through seven years of Buffy that makes me turn away from the screen. (Though the old lady who eats Doublemeat Palace employees is also hard to watch, if only for the fact that it looks dumb and I can't believe that they took it there...)

I voted Giles finding Jenny in Passion. When I'm watching that episode and I know that's gonna happen soon, I always get so tense. I find that really hard to watch.

But the thing I just can't watch is Gnarl peeling off Willows skin. When that part of the episode comes, I always have my eyes shut.

The attempted rape always has and always will make me cringe; it's even worse when they show parts of it in the episode recaps, because then I have to watch it multiple times outside of "Seeing Red" and I always know when it's coming.

Off the top of my head, these are the other scenes and images that are hardest for me to sit through:

- Everybody killing each other in the big brawl at the end of "The Wish." It's just hard seeing people who were good friends in the 'real' reality fighting and staking each other. No one knew who they were supposed to be or what their relationships would have been with each other. Didn't Oz stake Willow too? I just watched it again recently but can't remember.

- Faith in Buffy's body stabbing Willow in her fantasy. That look of horror and feeling of betrayal on Willow's face gives me the wiggins.

- Giles injecting Buffy with the muscle relaxer in "Helpless." That was an "Oh, crap!" moment.

- "Shallow cuts... shallow cuts..." ("The Gift")

- Some flashbacks with Angelus in the past are pretty horrible.

- I guess I should also throw in Spike killing his first Slayer in "Fool for Love." "Sorry love, I don't speak Chinese." Ugh. Then he and Dru get turned on from drinking her blood. Icky stuff, but then again, that's just the cruelty of the Buffyverse vampires.

I went for Xander's eye, I spoiled so much of BtVS for myself, it was one of the one things I wasn't expecting and it was like "OMG!"

I voted for Xander's eye, but two others that haven't yet been mentioned are when Angelus actually kills Jenny - I felt so bad for what must have been her final moments full of terror - and when that crazy girl has Xander tied to that big wheel thing and is cutting him and making him bleed.

I was going to pick Giles finding Jenny in "Passion" but then [MENTION=9316]ladydorotea[/MENTION] mentioned Willow skinning Warren. I think my reaction to that was much more visceral. Giles and Jenny just made me incredibly sad.

I voted Spike in Seeing Red.

Obviously it's disturbing because of the subject matter. Probably especially as a woman.

But I actually find it harder to watch because it's hard for me to see the two of them in so much pain. They really both hit rock bottom, even though Buffy is trying to climb out of it. And they both acted it so well. It really affects me for hours after seeing it.

the most disturbing scene for me is the witch burning in Gingerbread. Honestly, that's the most disturbing episode. I have had nightmares about it. It terrifies me.

i'd say a lot of the things people have mentioned are the most sad or the scariest for me, but not necesarilly the most disturbing.

for most disturbing, i'm going to have to go with spike's attempted rape and the gnarl "unwrapping" willow. i also find the entire "normal again" episode incredibly disturbing, especially when buffy is overpowering dawn and her friends and putting them in the basement. smg does that blank stare so well.
