Most frustrating show/season finale

I'd like to know what season or show ending (of any show) people have been frustrated or otherwise disappointed with.
As for me I'd have to go with the Charmed season 3 finale and the subsequent opening of season 4 I saw it on my 10th birthday and I remember feeling really frustrated because I was kind of cheated out of seeing a main character's death and they described this really cool scene of Leo making a choice and it all happened off screen 🙁

I'm interested in hearing everyone's picks.
 
How I Met Your Mother. Worst finale ever.

The Pretty Little Liars finale was pretty terrible but the show had been steadily declining in quality for four seasons by that point, so not as big a disappointment.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. The whole miniseries was pretty terrible but those final four words, uggghh! Such a bad ending.
 
OUAT had a frustrating ending because they had Regina (the evil queen) crowned the good queen of all the lands by Snow White. The fact that Regina has killed hundreds of people during her time as the evil queen is swept under the carpet because she's "redeemed" and the "heroes" apparently get to decide that she can be queen of everywhere for no other reason than they are full of themselves.

The whole show got frustrating after the first half of Season 3. The heroes became unlikeable, the writing quality tanked to where it was all just plot and mcguffins rather than actual character moments. The storylines got extremely repetitive, here another curse, here's another villain related to one of the main characters in some way. The Frozen arc was the worst, you shouldn't have to watch the Frozen movie (or Brave for Season 5) to get a back story for a character. Some characters were left under explored others were thrown in at every opportunity and had unnecessary flashbacks, even appearing in flashbacks they don't need to be in.

OUAT had the potential to be as iconic as Buffy. It had a massive fan following with fans, (Oncers was the collective name which was then divided into the different subset of fans for each character eg fans of Captain Hook had the self-chosen name of Hookers. Fun fact: Because ABC was related to Disney, the higher ups tried to get the hookers to change their group name but the hookers weren't having it and defiantly kept their name), and the cast often regularly engaged with fans on Twitter. However the writing took such a dive that by the end, the fans were hoping the show would end.

It's telling that the writers were looking to make Merida a regular character and Robert Carlyle (who played Rumplestiltskin) advised the actress not to take the offer and to find more fulfilling work elsewhere.

The finale to the original Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: The Return.

Both of the shows are amazing and the finales are amazing, but both end with Cooper being outwitted by the shows' respective baddies. In the original show, Cooper gets himself locked inside the Black Lodge and his evil twin escapes with Killer BOB inside him. Fans spent 25 years hoping for something similar to a happy ending. And then in The Return, Cooper, with the help of Lucy and Freddie, defeat the evil twin and Killer BOB, and Cooper goes back in time to save Laura from BOB, but then the idiot brings Laura right into the clutches of Judy.

We'll likely never have another sequel, and we will spend the rest of our lives wondering what happens to Coop and Laura when Judy comes for them.

Fire Walk with Me is the only Twin Peaks story that ends on a surprisingly happy note.

Don't know about that. Anyway, I don't have a problem with the premise of the finale. I actually respect that the creators stuck to their guns. My problem is with the execution of the final 2 seasons. The last season basically takes place over the space of a weekend. I think that after 8 seasons a lot of people wanted a chance to get to know the mother & see Ted & her together/dating. Aside from a few glimpses, we don't get much of that. They could've had it all in flashbacks and then have Ted officially meet the Mother in the finale as planned. I mean they already showed the Mother in the season 8 finale, so they already ruined that big reveal. Which I was totally fine with. They also needed to space out the events of the finale. They could've given fans a little time to get past the Barney/Robin divorce and mother's illness & demise. There really was no reason to prolong the marriage weekend to a whole season. They should've knocked that out in the first 5 - 6 episodes. Plus they could've given Lily & Marshall a little more screen time/proper send off. Just saying. 😳

To quote a brilliantly succinct post from Tumblr "This was supposed to be the story of the yellow umbrella not the blue french horn".

HIMYM built its entire premise around this one character and they did a great job of introducing her to the gang, showing how she fit seamlessly into the dynamic and how Ted fell for her so readily and then it was all for nothing. She literally ended up existing to be a Baby Factory for Ted, so he could have kids and then end up with the One That Got Away (the one who had repeatedly rejected his romantic gestures for perfectly valid reasons).

The HIMYM finale was rushed, inorganic, destroyed years of character development, ignored Lily (and to a certain extent Marshall), broke up two couples whom the fandom had been rooting for (I personally am not a Barney/Robin shipper, but I understand why those who are were so pissed about their eventual fate) and all for a couple that practically no one liked and whom we'd been repeatedly told did not work as a pairing. It was an utter mess.

We literally ended the series exactly where we started, with Ted holding up a blue french horn to a women who didn't want to be with him. We might as well have never left the Pilot episode.

The problem was the finale scene with the kids was filmed back in Season 1 before the actor and actress grew up. There were several seasons worth of character development between then and the finale so it didn't then match up by the end yet the writers chose to force it in any way. It's a very valid criticism that the last season spent it's entirety building up to the Barney/Robin wedding only to then cancel all that out at the very end. By the time Season 9 rolled round, Ted and Robin didn't make sense anymore.

Yeah, I knew about the kids being filmed all the way back in Season 1/2. They easily could have just not used that footage, especially since, as you said, the character development had evolved far beyond that ending.
That's because Regina was awesome, whereas Snow became a cautionary tale on why only mid-90s Demi Moore and Janine Turner should try the boy cut.

X-Files: I think the show ended with hybrid super-soldiers preparing for 2012, and Samantha was kidnapped by faeries.

Star Trek Enterprise has an ending that is universally hated.

The non-fairy tale female fashion on the show left a lot to be desired. Snow became frumpy.

I disliked most of the heroes by the end (exception was Rumple, and weirdly Hook who I hated in the beginning but kind of like by the end. He could do a lot better than Emma).

I used to like Regina but from Season 3B onwards, I began to dislike her especially with the "Regina is the best!" narrative that the show began to take on.

The Neverland arc was the last bit of non-repetitive story telling on the show but they dropped the ball and squandered its potential. The Neverland characters were under explored, Snow was annoying, the CaptainSwanFire triangle kicked off but was then never resolved, they would've benefitted from having daylight Neverland scenes and intersplicing Storybrooke into every episode rather than ignoring it, etc.
 
I really can't remember any regular season finale that frustrated me, and all my series finales are because they ended on a cliffhanger.

But, yeah, the How I Met Your Mother one comes pretty damn close. Though, for me, it's mostly the last five minutes that piss me off, especially as someone who considers S9 the best season of the whole show.
 
HIMYM, season 9 is one of the worst things ever, I am not exaggerating...

Dawson's Creek, they killed off Jen, I liked Jen 🙁 (I remember reading somewhere that they were supposed to kill Dawson).

Season 3 finale of The O.C., they killed off Marissa, who has had enough shit thrown at her already during season 3 alone, she was my favorite 🙁

Season 2 finale of Smallville, Clark decided on his own accord to wear a ring with Red Kryptonite in order not to deal with his problems, very OOC for him...

See how I have no complaints about any of the Buffy or Angel finales ? 🙂
 
The only one I can think of is the Desperate Housewives finale back in the day. I wasn’t a long-ish fan of the show, though (I had only seen bits of seasons 2, 7 and 8 at the time), so it didn’t bother me that much. Might’ve appreciated it more if I had watched the series from the very beginning.
 
Dr. Who enjoyed destroying his own time line, and his own story line. In it he had William Hartnell as the first Dr. Who them showed John Hurt as the original Dr. Then all the Dr's caused not the death of their home world in the episode The Day of the Dr.

As for Charmed finishing season 3 as it did, it had to end with the death of Prue as she was leaving the show for personal reasons, what reasons I hear you say? Shannon Doherty had cancer, a pain one. What was most ludicrous was getting Marilyn Mansons ex as a replacement.

Oh I always believed that Shannon was asked to leave because her and Alyssa were falling out but maybe that's just a rumour
