Most hated season that you still love

Yeah, I think so. It was just really hard to watch. But in many ways I think Angel was my preferred show anyway. Certainly the first two seasons, and most of the third. Then.. things changed.

I think it is, but personally I found that watching it week-to-week was mostly what ruined it. I mean there is some really clumsy/bad story-telling in there to for sure but when you have it on DVD or streaming or whatever and you watch it all consequtively I think the operatic feel that Joss was going for really comes through. So all in all, I like it, even if I don't like everything about it 🙂

Buffy season 6 - all the metaphors for adult life and choices, just like the high school years.
Angel season 3 - I just love dark Wes

Maybe watching week to week, but I have since Netflixed it and it still is a very long season to watch. And the biggest thing, for me it tonally shifted. The episodes just felt different than the previous ones. It could have used more Craft & Fain and less traditional 'whedon' writers.
 
I think AI is quite disjointed for a large part of season 4. With Cordelia going off with Conner. Wesley being ostracized. Fred and Gunn stuck together for the most part. I think it's when they're all the most fractured.
I also think it's the darkest season tonally. Not that I ever considered Angel light, but there's something about season 4... like there's less hope perhaps?

I do like season 4, but I prefer it a lot more when it seems like The Beast is the main big bad. Once it starts getting into the "The Beast has a boss" stuff, it goes downhill a bit for me. Not just because of what they did with Cordelia, but also because Jasmine being connected to The Beast isn't particularly well written IMO. I actually think it would have been far better if The Beast had been completely separate from her.
 
I really feel like the outcast at this point because at the moment I think the 4th Angel season is the best. I should point out that I am currently on a rewatch and things might change. But I did think that the first couple of seasons were the weakest. There is something to the thoery that because Buffy was still going on at that point than it was tough for Josh to balance both shows.

Hate is a strong word, partly because I have such a big love for Buffy as a show, and its one of those rare shows where even the weakest episodes still have enjoyable things about it. Season one is the weakest for a few different reasons, too many stand alone episodes, not enough Master, poor creature effects etc.. But I still enjoy watching it and I think the likes of Puppet Show and Prophecy Girl are real gems.

Angel season 3 isn't hated, its the highest rated 🙂 but I love it too, my second fav
 
Season 1 and 4. I mostly go to season 1 a lot when re-watching episodes and I pretty much know the episodes line for line lol. I know it was a short season but considering they had a mere 12 episodes they managed to put together a very likeable cast of characters, a season big bad and a lot of humour, love and back story. I think it's highly underrated if anything. Season 4 has some GREAT stand alones even if the season arc wasn't as strong as other seasons. I never watched the season and felt sad and disappointed that the characters were drifting apart, for some reason I just never saw that. I just see it is as a good season especially when you consider what they had to follow with season 3. It also was the season that was going to be the hardest to pull off. They had to take Buffy out of high school and into college and I think they made that transition really well adding new likeable characters, keeping the 'Buffy' feel with the MOW episodes and gently helping the character's grow.

I'm pleased to see the love for season 4 of Angel. That's definitely my choice. I never watched it when it originally aired, just back to back on dvd, so maybe you are right about that being what ruins it @Taake.

It definitely has its problems, the obvious Connor and Cordy crap etc. But despite that, its my favourite.

As for Buffy.....I guess maybe season 6.
 
Buffy season four... I feel they went the wrong way with Riley and the initiative - it could have been dealt with better and it felt rushed. Aside from that I actually liked most of the episodes and where they went. I also like season six and seven more than most people I've talked to. Obviously there were flaws, and I wish some things were different, but overall they were pretty good. Selfless is one of my favourite episodes, for example.
 
I have a weird relationship with AtS season 4. The thing is a mess, and I loathe everything about Cordelia and her evil octopus baby that turns into a beautiful full grown black woman*. But I LOVE the Beast. He isn't a terribly deep character, but that SOB was the coolest looking demon from either show. I think having him speak was a mistake, but even when he did, his voice was deep and intimidating as well. Faith was amazing, Willow's guest appearance was better than her entire storyline in season 7, and once I got passed how batshit crazy Jasmine's introduction was, she was kind of a cool and different threat with an interesting motivation.

Angelus is in the middle. He was hilarious and creepy some moments, others I wanted him to just shut the hell up. It's like DB drank a ton of caffeine and they just filmed him shouting random stuff that came into his head.

Does BtVS season 5 get a bad reputation? It's probably my favorite, but it seems to be middle of the road. Some love it, some hate it. A lot of the elements I hate in season 6/7 started to creep in here, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Despite the Knights of Byzantium and everything Spike related outside of "Fool For Love," there's not much here I don't like. Even Glory is pretty great once you compare her to the Big Bads surrounding her (Adam, the Trio and the First. Yeah, I'm going with the Big G on that one).

*If we had to have evil pregnant Cordelia at all, they should have gone all out on the birthing sequence. What, they suddenly chickened out on how ridiculous it could have been? Imagine something similar to the medpod scene in Prometheus.

@SiegePerilous02 s5 is generally a well respected season. It is my favorite season too. It's been remarked upon many times before and I agree, it is probably the most consistent season of any. No real bad episodes that stand out.
 
I found Buffy Season 4 one of the most enjoyable seasons. It has so much goodness.

Not only does it have some of my favourite episodes (Hush, Something Blue, Restless, Who Are You) but it has some of my favourite character arcs (retired Giles, toothless Spike, vampire Harmony, Tillow, Xander trying to find his place in the world). The more I watch it the more I focus on the enjoyable aspects of it and less on the Adam and Buffy/Riley storylines.

Yea if you skip the Riley/Adam/Initiative stuff it's a good season, pretty light with comedy too
I love Season 4, mostly for the same reasons @caitaintdead mentioned, except I love Riley, too! The humor in most of the eps is so awesome, we saw Oz-centered eps, Giles singing, Scoobies adjusting, Spike is just hilarious...yup, all kinds of good for me!
 
I liked Season Four of Buffy- apart from one or two episodes that I didn't think were that good - It was a solid season. I do really like 'Something Blue' and I actually liked Riley and still do! I know alot of people hated it but I liked it. Yes I can see where people come from when they hated Adam and I didn't really like him but apart from that, it was good 🙂 And as mentioned above, Giles singing!
