Most Pain Tolerance

So, many of the characters have undergone torture or have been badly hurt one time or another. Which would you consider (from both BtVS and AtS) to have the most pain tolerance? I'm talking physical pain here, not emotional.

I gotta say Angel, seeing as he was trapped in a Hell dimension for an untold amount of time.

Thats a tough question, i think i'll say spike, he was tortured by glory and fought to get his soul back and the things he went through weren't nice and he had a chip in his head.

Its hard to say because Angel and Spike are vampires so of course theyre going to have high pain tolerance, Buffy's a slayer so same thing.

Of the humans though I would say Giles because he was tortured by by Angel for hours.

Is hell and a hell dimension the same thing or is there a big difference?

Until I know that I agree with [MENTION=10299]xfivebyfive[/MENTION] Unless I'm forgot something. Which I often do.

Of the humans, I would be tempted to say Giles or Wes, because they are the first torture victims who come to mind. It does occur to me, however, that, as severe their torture actually was, it only lasted for a relatively short time. Pain tolerance is about more than simply the severity of the pain endured, and neither man's torture was drawn out for longer than a single episode.

Cordy, however, suffered the steadily increasing pain of her visions for literally years, and held up under it so well that none of her coworkers were even aware that anything was wrong until the end. The only one who shared the knowledge of what she was going through was Phantom Dennis.

So, Miss Cordelia Chase gets my vote for the Buffyverse "True Grit" Award.

I'll jump on the human bandwagon but say Wesley being tortured by Faith.

Well, it's tough not to say Angel after he spent 100 years being tortured in hell and was able to come back from it in a relatively short period of time. There are a ton of instances, especially in his own series, where Angel takes these brutal puncture wounds or gets dropped repeatedly off tall structures. If we're talking cumulatively here, Angel would get me vote.

But Spike proved over and over again that he can take a hell of a lot and just keep coming too. All through the seventh season he's screwed with mentally by The First and tortured by the Turok-Han vampire.

Coin flip between Angel and Spike for me.

But I have to give props to White Avenger's points on Cordy. They showed that Angel couldn't handle the visions, and she endured a hell of a lot over a long stretch of time.

I think they're the same thing. There are many hell dimensions, and there isn't really one true Hell that resides over them.



With regards to humans, I'd say Giles. Angelus can get bloody creative with torture, after all, definitely moreso than Faith did with Wesley. Side note, Gunn also had to endure getting his heart extracted multiple times.

Spike maybe but I've noticed whenever he's in pain, he laughs. Its his way of coping it with it I guess.

I'm not counting any of the vampires, since they're supernatural beings... And I'm not counting Buffy, either, since she has Slayer strength and she's made to deal with greater amounts of pain that normal humans.
Out of the humans on the show, I would have went with Cordelia, except that she was medicating herself with all those pills we saw in her apartment and stuff to deal with the headaches the visions were giving her. So for me, it's between Giles and Wesley... I'm going to go with Wes. We saw Faith being more brutal with Wes and I think his background of being an abused child would probably have something to do with his ability to withstand pain.

My vote goes for Connor.
Apart from living in a Hell dimension up to the age of 18, where he earned the nickname 'the destroyer' he was mentally tortured all his life, his whole existence being a lie etc.

He frequently takes beatings from Angel and Faith but the pain never seems to faze him.

Not to mention punching through a God's skull(Jasmine) has got to hurt, but he didn't even flinch.

Every other character has expressed they were in physical pain at one point or another in the series, with gasping and cries etc, Connor on the other hand never once shows any sign that he even feels physical pain let alone has a tolerance level.

He does of course have tears rolling down his face while being mentally manipulated and tortured by Cordelia when asked to kill an innocent virgin but that was emotional spiritual pain, and he wasn't exactly sobbing.

What about Gunn? He was caught in this Wolfram and Hart prison-dimension where he had to go into the cellar where a demon ripped out his heart! Everyday with another torture. Anyway I don't think he was the most tortured character because he couldn't remember. I would say Angel but he is not human so I go with Giles.

The first people who came to mind were Angel for spending time in Hell and having red hot pokers shoved through his chest in In the Dark and Giles for being tortured by Angelus.

But after reading white avenger's post about Cordy I realised how she is definately one of the top contenders. She suffers through so much pain when she receives those visions.
