When a actor is cast in a role where you just can't buy them as that character for whatever the reason, their appearance, their past roles, their public image, their acting style etc...

Keira Knightley as a Bounty Hunter in Domino
Meg Ryan as a Helicopter pilot in Courage Under Fire
George Clooney as Batman in Batman & Robin
Val Kilmer as Batman in Batman Forever
Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins
James Van Der Beek as Dawson Leery in Dawson's Creek
Julia Roberts as a Art Teacher in Mona Lisa Smile
Hugh Grant as a washed up singer in Music and Lyrics

I like Music and Lyrics :) lol
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne Blake in the Scooby-Doo movies. It's always been really unsettling to me lol. She's a great actress, but.. I don't know. Haha. It's just weird to me.

I think it kinda works oddly😀

Kevin Costner as Robin Hood.

I think it might be the hair that bothers me 😵 if Daphne Blake was a blonde, and therefor Sarah wouldn't have to wear a wig since she was already blonde... then maybe I'd be more accepting.. 😛 Sarah with red hair just disturbs me for some reason hahaha.

I think this is just me, but Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslett when they play a couple - I can never buy them together

Mmmm... Maybe.
Heather Graham in From Hell
Colin Farrell in Alexander

Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Robin Williams in One Hour Photo

Priceless

I thought Tom Cruise was good in Tropic thunder, but the film was over rated
Timothy Dalton as James Bond. We could have a thousand-post thread on who should never have been cast as Bond.
Michael Keaton as Batman

Well I would have said Moore and Lazerby before Dalton, but then I'm a big fan of Dalton and thought he was a great Bond personally. Thing is Bond is a character they need to update to justify it.

Disagree strongly. Maybe because I'm not a massive fan of his comedy, but there is something about taking his manic comic routine and twisting it into something much darker which works. Thought he was great in Insomnia too.

Oh, I thought it was just 'unbelievable casting choices', not 'unbelievably rubbish casting choices'?

Robin Williams was fantastic in One Hour Photo, but it was totally removed from every other comedic role he played. His casting was unbelievable, but inspired.

Fair point, guess what I was getting as is that his brand of comedy did lend itself to playing psychos. But it was surprising true.

I'd add almost anything which Johnny Depp has been in post-2000. Don't buy his goofy, slapstick act, he should have stayed playing dramatic roles or oddballs. What a career decline.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther. I haven't the words. I was worse than I was expecting.
Tom Hardy as Mad Max in MM: Fury Road. It was a good movie but he wasn't right for the part.
Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. Also Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey lol.
Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin. In fact just that entire movie was miscast. Joel did his best to kill the franchise.
Jessica Alba in Sin City 2 lol.

Vin Diesel in almost anything (Pitch Black is why).
Megan Fox in almost anything (Jennifer's Body is why).
