Most Underrated Season

In your opinion, which season of either series was the most underrated in the grand scheme of things?

For me, it's Season 1 of Buffy. I've read that alot of people didn't like "Teacher's Pet", or "I Robot, You Jane", or "The Puppet Show", but I honestly loved the entire season. Granted, it lacked the seriousness that all the latter seasons had, but it was still very enjoyable to watch.

I might agree on Season One. The reason its overlooked is because the season is short. There isn't too much going on. Each episode opens and closes on conflict by the end except the Master story. If I had to pick any other season it may be Four. While its highly talked about, people seem either hate it or love it. The same goes with Season Seven. While I beleive Season 2-3-5-6 are typical favorites.

S1, hands down.

It gets ripped on quite a bit (when my brother introduced me to the show, he said: "You have to get through S1"), but I really liked S1, especially after watching it a few times.

I'm a big sucker for high school shows (or at least, good high school shows) and S1 just captured what high school is like pretty much perfectly. It doesn't take itself too seriously at all, there are some great, great episodes and the innocence is still there for Buffy ("Angel" is one of my all time favorite episodes.

I kind of forget with how deeply and richly the characters are developed over the seasons, but Angel's original story is a great one. He has the mystery element down brilliantly.

Plus, "Welcome to the Hellmouth", after the LOST pilot, is probably the best first-episode of any show I've ever watched. It's one I pop in and re-watch all the time.

I'd have to agree and say either season one or seven. I love both of these seasons. I think the first season is a great introduction to the Buffyverse and really shows the potential of the show and developed the characters enough to make you intrigued as to what the future would hold. I love how nostalgic it feels and how young everyone looks. Some of the episodes seem to get a bad rap but I enjoy them - even if they seem corny.
As for season seven - I love it. I know it's very Spuffy-centric and seems to get a few dislikes for that, but being a Spuffy myself, I think it's awesome. I could however do without the 585868 potentials bombarding the house and taking away from what I believe is a core part of the show - the existing relationships between the original scoobies.
But it has some really amazing episodes;

CWDP; I watch this to remind myself of how my problems seem insignificant to actual problems. Plus the upside down chairs and library scene freak me out.

Sleeper; Love the entire episode.

Lies My Parents Told Me; inside into the life of Spike, don't mind if I do.

Him; Pretty much hilarious

Chosen; What I think is a great ending to the series - minus the unnecessary death of Anya.

I also think Lessons is a great season opener. As you can see, I have a whole lot of love for season seven😛

Yes, I also think it's season 1. I love almost every episode, especially The Puppet Show.

And personally, I'm totally underrating season 5. I almost never really think about it, and when I watch it I think, "Wow, this is great!" (Ecxept for the gorram knight.😡)

I'd say season 6. A lot of people didn't like the tone of it and the drug metaphor was a bit clunky, but there were some great episodes in that season that make for great rainy day viewing. The fact that OMWF is there makes it one of my favourite seasons to be honest.

For me it's also Buffy season 1 (followed closely by Angel season 4). I just love season 1, it had a few weak episodes sure, but it was just so... Buffy. It just set the tone of the whole show and I find it endlessly charming. To this day it's one of my most re-watched seasons 🙂

I actually think Buffy Season 4 is the most underrated. Even though the Initiative plot was a bust, I think there are a lot of good episodes in this season ("Fear, Itself", "Something Blue", "A New Man").

Season 4 has lots of brilliant episodes some of the best of the entire show even.
But it seems that many mostly remember the not so great stuff like Adam and the Initiative.

Personally I don't even mind the Initiative that much but I do think that Adam is quite boring as a villain.

Adam was a menice that had to be stoped and we know he would be stoped. Adam was never the big bad of S4 He was background noise the real big bad of S4 was the choises we make after high school and the freedoms layed apon us and how these freedoms can fracture our friendships.

The Initiative where blundering idots that was messing with forces they should not be messing with and I think that point came across quite well thoughout the season

With that note S4 is underrated
With a great string of eps Faith 2parter The Yoko factor, Something Blue, New moon riseing,Hush,Restless,Harsh light of day.

Season 1

I'm a shameless fan of season 1, it's probably the one season I hate the least. It's basically Buffy the movie the TV show, a wonderful dose of weekly b-movie schlock full of that 90s charm. What's not to love?

People just don't get it I guess.

There is no drug metaphor, magic is literally a drug in season 6.

Indeed. That's always how I've viewed S6. It was a commentary about how drugs can ruin lives, alienate you from your friends, and turn you into something that you could never see yourself becoming

S1 is not underrated its very well done and to me highly rated because without it no 2-3-4-5-6-7 of Buffy
