Movie or Series, where do I start?

My wife and I are almost done with Angel, and since she likes it, I'm going to introduce her to Buffy next (even though we did watch a few season 4 episodes for the crossovers, and so she'll understand who Faith is). So I'm wondering if I should take her right to "Welcome to the Hellmouth" or if I should have her watch the movie first, since the movie itself is not canon, but the comic adaption is, since it fits into the Buffy TV show more than the movie, or should I just give the the cliff notes version and tell her the basics, like Merrick, Pick, ect?

I'd try to get her hooked on the series first so she's not totally turned off by the movie (which is fun and campy, but doesn't match the tone of the series). If later she wants to see it just for curiosity's sake, then great, but otherwise, you're not missing much without it.

Awww your banner is gorgeous! And it's nice to see you posting over here again...
^ Do your lady a favor and spare her the inevitable shock and blindless that will result in watching that crap movie. 😛

Start her directly with the series. :: tu ::

AMEN to that... I saw the movie first and hated it so much that my bff in high school nearly had to tie me to her bed to get me to watch the series once during a sleepover.

I definitely think you should skip the movie for now, since it's absolutely NOTHING like the show. If she likes the series, you can show her the movie later and say "This is actually how Buffy started out.... And this is why they went in a different direction for the show". LOL

Yup, I'm with everyone else, don't show her the movie. Start her with the series because she does not have to watch the movie to watch the series. There is a big chance it will turn her off, so I say dont take the chance.

Don't bother with the movie, it doesn't really bring anything to the Buffy experience, and as it doesn't fit in properly she may get confused.

If you show her the movie first you'll only put her off watching the series, Lmao!
Trust me d o n 't d o i t! 😛

Series, definitely. I haven't seen the movie but it doesn't sound great and I'm not missing anything from not having seen it. In fact, I started with S2, which was probably the best place to start for me. S1 is fun and all but I'm not sure I would've gotten as hooked on the show if I had started with it rather than S2.

Hey. I want to say the same thing as everyone else too. Skip the movie. At least as first. I know people that starts with School hard when they try to introduce people to the show.

Ahhh. Feels so refreshing to be original. But at least I hope you've got the message now.

The movie is bad. And it kinda skips "so bad, it's good" and goes through to "so bad it's really bad again". 😀

Save it for some time when she's well grounded within the fourteen gazillion times better series, and then, if you feel really silly one night (a little bit of ethanol intoxication won't hurt either), you can put in the movie and have a good laugh at it together.
