I thought we could start a thread listing our favourite horror films in keeping with Halloween slowly creeping up on us this month.

Do you watch a certain favourite horror movie (or movies) at Halloween time?

One of my 'favorites' that no one knows/likes is Begotten. It's amazing. Oh, and then Shadow of the Vampire.

Please tell me you like Near Dark tho. Bill Paxton as a vampire is amazing. Ooooh, The Lost Boys too.
You've already listed Halloween, that's one of my favorites. I'll also watch Nosferatu (1922 AND 1979) Kinski never fails to freak me out.

Ha, a few years ago I had a friend and her cousin come over for some Halloween movies and we watched House of a 1000 corpses and The Devil's Rejects, and their opinion afer it was looking at me queerly and literally asking "who would own movies like these?"

Who wouldn't own them? Clearly someone with Dr. Zaius shoved up their butt.
 
Thinking about RZ made me think of Lords of Salem. That is one that needs to be added to any Halloween list.

Zombieland should not be a guilty pleasure... there is that one scene in the Descent that I just cannot watch. It is the most terrifying thing I have ever seen.
 
I took a look at Netflix 'Halloween Favourites' for some stuff to watch, I noticed they had Angel in there too. Whilst not a movie I also recommend iZombie.

Looking at the promos it was never something I would usually watch. I only watched it to start with because it was a Rob Thomas and I love Veronica Mars. For me it is the writing and his characters. Additional bonus of David Anders.
 
I don't really watch anything specific around Halloween. However, me and a couple of friends used to meet and watch The Evil Dead (1981) and I think Halloween (1978) a couple of years ago. Or some other films, but I think we frequently watched The Evil Dead.
Other horror movies I love are The Thing, The Fog, The Exorcist, The Shining, and the first four Friday the 13th films.

Have you seen Schrader's Exorcist: Dominion?
I really enjoyed that as a prequel but also as it's own story.. much better than the studio version of The Beginning. I think I need to watch it again.

No, I've only seen The Exorcist and The Exorcist III. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out!
There's a great documentary about The Exorcist. Uhhh, The Fear of God: 25 Years of 'The Exorcist'. It's a 90s BBC documentary but it's very good.

Speaking of documentaries, my other half mentioned he wanted to watch the Paradise Lost docs at Halloween time. Not watched all three in a row for a good few years. So, maybe.
 
House on Haunted Hill is another good movie with Vincent Price.

Anything that Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee made with Hammer Films, but especially Horror of Dracula, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Curse of Frankenstein. The original Frankenstein with Boris Karloff is worth checking out too.
 
Psycho. The sequel wasn't bad, but come on -- nothing will ever be able to top this masterpiece.
The Changeling with George C. Scott. Very effective haunted house thriller.
Poltergeist, which is just great fun.
The Sixth Sense, if you haven't heard of the twist by now, do yourself a favor and watch it.
The Others, another haunted house movie with an absolutely brilliant twist ending.
The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, if you buy into the whole "found footage" thing.
The Conjuring was pretty good as well, one of the best of modern times.
Love the Scream series; the first one will always be the best, but the second is almost as good. The third, meh; the fourth was a breath of fresh air after an eleven year hiatus, still not better than the first two.
