I don't put much stock in forwarded e-mails of this sort, but have any of you MSN mail users received this in your box? I got this forward from a friend of mine earlier this morning:

~Hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN, sorry for the
interruption but msn is closing down. this is because too many
inconsiderate people are taking up all the name (eg making up lots of
different accounts for just one person), we only have 578 names left. If
you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks.
WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE
CLOSED AND YOU WILL COST 10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON
YOUR CONTACT LIST. NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE WHOLE EMAIL. GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW AND PASTE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION.

Sounds pretty ridiculous. But it does coincide with this BBC News article I later found:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1189119.stm

So, it looks like MSN users will have to pony up some dough soon. Don't those effers get enough of our cash? Geez....

:mad61:

If this is MSN sending it, then why would you have to send it on?
Surely they have all the email addresses to send it on themselves.

I've had e-mails like this before, its total balderdash.

As for the link, I don't use MSN enough to actually pay for it.

Sounds like the giant load of BS that's been going around for years. It's just coincidental that you receiving the email (which seriously, I got that particular one back in '01 before I went Apple and traded my Hotmail for a .Mac account) in the same time frame as MSN making that announcement. And if you look at the article, your mail will still remain free. Basically, they'll charge for enhanced services (larger inbox and the like, I presume).

If you click on the link that says Msn prank it will tell you that it is an old story, so untill i recieve such news i'll treat it as such, it sounds like "Chain mail" the prankish kind to un nerve poeple -Morons!. Why should people pay for their email account any way..? The Effers!

Yeah, I figured it was a prank, although I must admit I didn't see that "MSN Prank" link in the article. Geez, these pranksters need to go get a girlfriend or something.

If emails come from MSN themselves they normally have that litte butterfly to verify.

Another day another attempt to scam!

I recieved that email about 6 months ago, I ignored it and surprisingly MSN is still there! Not sure what to make of this one but my friends who I asked about it said it was a hoax.

Also notice the horrid formatting, poor capitalization etc. If it was really from MSN it would be all nice like 😀
