Music and what it means to you

That first part is true for me, also. Whilst I was always a big music fan it seems that as I get older I need it more and more. It's very rare that I'm no listening to either a cd, listening to the radio or watching a music channel on television.

Excellent, isn't it? I mean, I was already a fan of Slipknot, for the most part, but Corey really excelled with this band. Really good stuff.

Yup. There's a lot of music I just plain like and listen to regularly. Then there's the music that would be on the soundtrack of my life, if there was one.

Soundtrack of my life would involve a lot of Pearl Jam, REM, Evanescence and the entire Temple of the Dog cd.

Love that album!

Losing my Religion would figure somewhere in the soundtrack of my life. Its the only REM song I like. Its actually one of my favourite songs. They were tapping into some mighty music power line when they wrote that song.

The only one you like? Really? That's strange to me because I always have seen that song as a fairly standard REMesque track. It's one of my favourites too but i'd have thought that if you liked that song then there would be a whole list of REM songs you would go for.

Out of Time was a killer album though. It's my third favourite after Automatic for the People and Around the Sun.

Get out of my head, Arcane! Temple of the Dog is one my FAVORITES.

Mine would have Disturbed, Stone Sour, Metallica, Queensryche, Green Day, AFI, the Sex Pistols and several others I'd have to sit down and think about to really make a comprehensive list.......

I heard a band the other night that seemed pretty cool called The Shins.

The Shins? That rings a bell. Are they fairly new? I think a mate of mine was telling me about them not long ago.

Temple of the Dog were one of those bands that were incredible but needed to end so that Pearl jam could be born and Soundgarden could continue. Any band that included both Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell though? Got to be good! 😉

I'd love to hear a TotD reunion cd though.

Babe! I heard this song last week and I've been listening to it nonstop since then.

You rock, baby.
Yeah, they sounded familiar to me, too, but I can't remember where I'd heard of them. Anyway, they played Saturday Night Live last Sat and they were awesome!

I love Crowded House! I saw the Finns in Austin a few years back and they were great as ever.

Ahhh, I think Sister Madly will have to be on the soundtrack CD.....and what's that one about the weather.....Take The Weather, or something like that? I bought that CD because of that song.

Now I know where I've been hearing the name recently. Zane Lowe has been playing them a lot on his show on Radio 1. I knew the name sounded familiar. Shades of Crowded House but nothing wrong in that.

I love Crowded House. They were so dark, but subtle about it. Some of their songs were just so damn atmospheric and menacing.

Yeah, Crowded House were a great band. It's a real shame that Paul Hester commited suicide. I think that has pretty much ended any hope of a reunion. No way will the surviving members regroup without him, or so they say.

Actually I think they have already been let go from their latest contract in the States due to a lack of interest in the new lead singer. After Rock Star ended it all kind of went wrong, apparently.

I hope that Supernova manage to do a little better, even if they did make the wrong choice for lead singer. I liked Lucas but it should have been Toby! 😉

Did they really? I didn't know! No matter, there's nobody but Michael Hutchence for me.

Can I just plug the Shins again? Australia! Musical crack. I love this song. The new album's not as much pure popcandy joy, but it's good.

Australia (The Shins)
Born to multiply, born to gaze into night skies,
All you want's one more Saturday.
But look here, until then
They're gonna buy your nice time
So keep your wick in the air and your feet in the fetters
To the day.
You come in doing cartwheels
We all go out by ourselves
And your shape on the dance floor
Will have me thinking such filth and gauge my eyes.

You'd be damned to be one of us girl
Faced with a dodo's conundrum
Ah, I felt like I could just fly
But nothing'll happen every time I try.

A duo tone on the wall
Selfish fool and hoped you'd save us all
Never dreamt of such sterile hands,
You keep them folded in your lap,
And raise them up to beg for scraps,
You know, he's holding you down,
With the tips of his fingers just the same,
You'll be pulled from the ocean,
But just a minute too late,
Or changed by a potion,
We'll find a handsome young mate,
For you to love.

You'll be damned to pining through the windowpanes,
You know you'll change your life for any ordinary Joe,
And though your night will go on,
Your nightmares only need a year or two to unfold.

Been in love since you were twenty-one,
You haven't laughed since January,
You try and make this up this is so much fun,
But we know it to be quite contrary.

Dare to be one of us, girl,
Facing the Android's conundrum,
Ah, I feel like I should just cry,
But nothing happens every time I take one on the chin,
You're humoring your cote,
You don't know how long I've been,
Watching the lantern dim,
Starved of oxygen,
So give me your hand,
And let's jump out the window.

Phantom Limb

I'm just waiting for the critical/popular backlash to begin, they're gonna be everywhere...
