Music Soothes the Soul...

Rayne,
"Mad World" was originally a UK hit by Tears For Fears in the 80's - there is another version out now from a film soundtrack I think but I can't remember who does it. I also liked "love and Affection" by Joan Armatrading a lot (late 70's or early 80's btw)

Love And Affection

I am not in love
But I'm open to persuasion
East or West
Where's the best
For romancing

With a friend
I can smile
But with a lover
I could hold my head back
I could really laugh
Really laugh

Thank you
You took me dancing
'Cross the floor
Cheek to cheek
But with a lover
I could really move
Really move
I could really dance
Really dance
Really dance
Really dance
I could really move
Really move
Really move
Really move

Now if I can feel the sun
In my eyes
And the rain on my face
Why can't I
Feel love

I can really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Love love love love
Love love love love

Now I got all
The friends that I want
I may need more
But I shall just stick to those
That I have got
With friends I still feel
So insecure

Little darling I believe you could
Help me a lot
Just take my hand
And lead me where you will
No conversation
No wave goodnight
Just make love
With affection

Sing me another love song
But this time
With a little dedication
Sing it, sing it
You know that's what I like
Once more with feeling
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Love...

It's from the Donnie Darko soundtrack and it's sung by Gary Jules. It's so very beautiful and perfect for the film.

The following song is from an old but well-known movie......and I post it here because it illustrates the way I used to think many moons ago.....in the years before I met my lady...the love of my life.......

DAN HILL - "It's A Long Road"

It's a long road
When you're on your own
And it hurts when
They tear your dreams apart
And every new town
Just seems to bring you down
Trying to find peace of mind
Can break your heart
It's a real war
Right outside your front door I tell ya
Out where they'll kill ya
You could use a friend
Where the road is
That's the place for me
Where I'm me in my own space
Where I'm free that's the place
I wanna be
'Cause the road is long yeah
Each step is only the beginning
No breaks just heartaches
Oh man is anybody winning
It's a long road
And it's hard as hell
Tell me what do you do
To survive
When they draw first blood
That's just the start of it
Day and night you gotta fight
To keep alive.....

It's a real war
Right outside your front door I tell ya
Out where they'll kill ya
You could use a friend
Where the road is
That's the place for me
Where I'm me in my own space
Where I'm free that's the place
I wanna be
'Cause the road is long yeah
Each step is only the beginning
No breaks just heartaches
Oh man is anybody winning..........

It's a long road.........it's a long road...........

Great song Old Master! 😉

Mr. Pointy I love that...especially
Now I got all
The friends that I want
I may need more
But I shall just stick to those
That I have got
With friends I still feel
So insecure

And yeah, I know that T4F did it first...I haven't heard their version but I LOVE the version from Donnie Darko...it always makes me want to cry...I don't know what it is but it makes my heart swell...

Miss_world13...I gotta find your song too...I like your taste so far lol...😉

Missunderstood by Pink

&

Bring me to life by Evanescence

I'd post the lyrics but I think u guys know them

incubus...mexico

You could see me reaching
So why couldn't you have
Met me halfway
You could see me bleeding
But you could not put
Pressure on the wound
You only think about yourself
You only think about yourself
You'd better bend before I go
On the first train to Mexico

You could see me breathing
But you still kept
Your hand over my mouth
You could feel me seething
But you just turned
Your nose up in the air

You only think about yourself
You only think about yourself
You'd better bend before I go
On the first train to Mexico

You only think about yourself
You only think about yourself
You'd better bend before I go
On the first train to Mexico

the lyrics don't do it justice...yall got to listen to it...its a beautiful song that is hella sad....

lol...oldie...that sounds like it described jack burton from big trouble in little china...lol...that was a classic movie...the illest

yay. So happy Mad World Got Christmas no 1 in the UK not the rubbish that is the Darkness.

A while ago I was completely amazed at how this song completely summed up how I felt at the time so I'll post it.

NIN - Hurt

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear my crown of ****
On my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stain of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

That feelings faded a lot now thank god but I appreciated it at the time and its still a great song.

Another one that would work for me and i'm ashamed to know but the lyrics are good and I actually bought the album *hides in shame* is Avril Lavigne - Anything but Ordinary

Sometimes I get so weird
I even freak myself out
I laugh myself to sleep
it's my lullaby

Sometimes I drive so fast
just to feel the danger
I wanna scream it makes me feel alive

Chorus:
Is it enough to love? is it enough to breathe ?
Somebody rip my heart out & leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die, somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

To walk within the lines
would make my life so boring
I want to know that i have been to the extreme
so knock me off my feet
c'mon now give it to me
anything to make me feel alive

Chorus:
Is it enough to love? is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out & leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

Let down your defenses, use old common sense
if you look you will see that this world is a
beautiful, accident, turbulent, succulent, opulent, permanent no way
I wanna taste it, don't wanna waste away...

Sometimes I get so weird i even freak myself out
I laugh myself to sleep it's my lullaby

Chorus:
Is it enough? Is it enough? is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out & leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die? somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

Is it enough? is it enough to die somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please (oh)
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

OMG! I can't freggin' BELIEVE I forgot HURT! I'm a major jackass! THANK YOU J! Jeez...I need to get my head checked...

And LOVE Avril...but I gotta go with that one that has
"It's a damn cold night..."
That song say a lot...

Pft...still can't believe I screwed the pooch on HURT...lol...😛

Good Charlotte - The Young, and the Hopless:

Hard days made me
Hard nights shaped me
I don't know they somehow saved me
And I know I'm making something out of this life they call nothing
I take what i want
take what I need
you say it's wrong, but it's right for me
I won't look down
Won't say I'm sorry
I know that only god can judge me

And if i make it through today
Will tomorrow be the same
Am i just running in place
And if i stumble and i fall
Should i get up and carry on
Will it all just be the same
Cause im young and im hopeless
im lost and i know this
im going nowhere fast thats what they say
im troublesome i've fallen
im angry at my father
its me against this world and i dont care
i dont care

no one in this industry
understands the life i lead
when i sing about my past
its not a gimmick, not an act
These critics, and these trust fund kids
try to tell me what punk is
but when i see them on the street they got nothing to say

And if i make it through today
Will tomorrow be the same
Am i just running in place
And if i stumble and i fall
Should i get up and carry on
Will it all just be the same
Cause im young and im hopeless
im lost and i know this
im going nowhere fast thats what they say
im troublesome i've fallen
im angry at my father
its me agaisnt this world and i dont care
i dont care i dont care...and now i dont care
oooooo ooooo oooooo

im young and im hopeless
im lost and i know this
im going nowhere fast thats what they say
that im troublesome i've fallen
im angry at my father
its me agaisnt this world and i dont care
i dont care. i dont care. i dont care.

This is SO me!!!

Crazy
Meredith Brooks

Jump in it's fine without a lifeboat
I will give it another try
You say come back, don't go in too deep
But it's a rush to see me do it
Cause you don't dare
Even though there's nothing to it

Chorus
This town's always gonna think I'm a little crazy
Somebody's always gonna try to label me insane
Funny how I always seem to be the one who's crazy
I just wanna live, I don't wanna fit
If that makes me crazy, then I am

No way I feel like nothings goin'
My way but my future's bright
Don't have a single dollar left
Got my keys inside my car
and the high way is opening wide
You ask me where, I can't tell you
But I'm putting town the pedal tonight

Chorus

You say don't change a single thing
But your list is longer than my day
I can't help wondering
When all is said and all is done
Am I the crazy one?

I just want to live
I don't want to fit
I just want to try
I don't want to quit
If that makes me crazy, I am.

Chorus

Another one:

Christina Aguilera - I Will Be:

The world seems so cold
When I face so much all alone
A little scared to move on
And knowing how fast I have grown

And I wonder just where I fit in
Oh the vision of life in my head
Oh yes

I will be
Strong on my own
I will see through the rain
I will find my way
I will keep on
Traveling this road
Till I finally reach my dream
Till I'm living, and I'm breathing
My destiny, yeah yeah

I can't let go now
Even when darkness surrounds
But if I hold on, yeah
I will show the world
All the things that you never expected to see
From little old me, this Pittsburgh girl

And I wonder just where my place is
Close my eyes and I remind myself this
Oh yeah yeah

I will be
Strong on my own
I will see through the rain
I will find my way
I will keep on
Traveling this road
Till I finally reach my dream
Till I'm living, and I'm breathing
My destiny, ohh

It comforts me
Ooh it keeps me
Alive each day of my life
Always guiding me
Providing me
With the hope I desperately need

Well I gotta believe
There's something out there meant for me
Oh I get on my knees
Praying I will receive
The courage to grow and the faith to know

That I will be
Strong on my own
I will see through the rain
I will find my way
I will keep on
Traveling this road
Till I finally reach my dream
Till I'm living, and I'm breathing
My destiny

hehe no problem. If I was close enough...I'd slap you for forgetting!!!j/k Its a classic though, hang your head in shame 😛 😀

Another song I can remember relating a lot to in the past and I guess a lot of people so when you get the feeling that you aren't good enough and that your family only love you when you do things right is Alanis Morisette - Perfect. I just love her and her music is amazing in my humble opinion but if you don't knwo the words here they are.

Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face

Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder

How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet

Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud

I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him, compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem...why are you crying

Be a good boy
Push a little harder now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect

Id have to say one of my songs is How you remind me by Nickelback its just the words they just always relate to a relationship breakup( well mine anyway)

but i think the one that relates to me is Numb by linkin park

I'm tired of being what you want me to be
feeling so faithless
lost under the surface
i dont know what your expecting of me
put under the pressure
of walking in your shoes

[caught in the undertow
just caught in the undertow]
Every step that i take is
another mistake to you

Ive
become so numb
i cant feel you there
become so tired
so much more aware
im becoming this
all i want to do
is be more like me
and be less like you

Cant you see that you're smothering me
holding too tightly
afraid to lose control
'cause everything that you thought i would be
has fallen apart right in front of you

[caught in the undertow
just caught in the undertow]
every step that i take is
another mistake to you
[caught in the undertow
just caught in the undertow]
and every second i waste
is more than i can take

but i know
i may end up falling too
but i know
you were just like me
with someone dissapointed in you.

Ooh! I'm with you on Alanis as well Jonut...that song always brings the tears to my eyes...she's an awesome performer! 😉

Awesome picks Sexy_Babe!

This time of year brings to my mind a genius songwriter named Townes Van Zandt, who died on New Year's Day in 1997. He's best remembered for the song "Pancho and Lefty," recorded by Willie Nelson among many others.

Here's the opening of a Townes song I never seem to tire of. Hope you enjoy it:

Buckskin stallion blues
by Townes Van Zandt

I heard her sing in tongues of silver
I heard her cry on a summer storm
I loved her, but she did not know it
so I don't think about her anymore
Now she's gone, and I can't believe it
so I don't think about her anymore

If three and four was seven only
where would that leave one and two?
If love can be and still be lonely
where does that leave me and you?
Time there was, and time there will be
where does that leave me and you?

If I had a buckskin stallion
I'd tame him down and ride away.
If I had a flyin' schooner
I'd sail into the light of day
If I had your love forever
sail into the light of day

This describes how I feel sometimes...

Medication by Garbage

I don't need an education
I learnt all I need from you
They've got me on some medication
My point of balance was askew
It keeps my temperature from rising
My blood is pumping through my veins

Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
Nobody gives a damn about me or anybody else

I wear myself out in the morning
You're asleep when I get home
Please don't call me self defending
You know it cuts me to the bone
And it's really not surprising
I hold a force I can't contain

Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
Nobody gives a damn about me or anybody else

And still you call me co-dependent
Somehow you lay the blame on me
And still you call me co-dependent
Somehow you lay the blame on me

Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
I've got to make a point these days
To extricate myself

Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
Nobody gives a damn about me or anybody else

And still you call me co-dependent
Somehow you lay the blame on me
And still you call me co-dependent

Somehow you lay the blame on me
Somehow you lay the blame on me
Somehow you lay the blame on me

The one song that I've been listening to non-stop lately is Hold On by Good Charlotte. It's such a meaningful song, and I think it has a great message to get across. You don't see many groups tackling suicide, and when you do they never get the recognition they deserve. But I think it's a tough topic to grab a hold on to and I think GC did a great job with this song. I doubt any of that made sense, but here's the lyrics:

this world
this world is cold
but you don't
you don't have to go
your feeling sad your feeling lonely
and no one seems to care
your mothers gone and your father hits you
this pain you cannot bear
but we all bleed the same way as you do
and we all have the same things to go through

hold on if you feel like letting go
hold on it gets better than you know

the days, you say they're way too long
and your nights, you cant sleep at all
and you're not sure what you're waiting for but you don't want to no more
and you're not sure what you're looking for but you don't want to no more

but we all bleed the same way as you do
and we all have the same things to go through

hold on if you feel like letting go
hold on it gets better than you know
don't stop looking your one step closer
don't stop searching its not over
hold on

what are you looking for
what are you waiting for
do you know what your doing to me
GO AHEAD
what are you waiting for

hold on if you feel like letting go
hold on it gets better than you know
don't stop looking your one step closer
don't stop searching its not over...hold on

That sounds like a really emotional song, ive never listened to anything by Good Charlotte but ive been told about a few of there songs...im definately going to listen to that one aswell it made me cry just reading it...
