Since I am just now discovering that most of the really good rock/metal comes out of Europe (I didn't realize how much the heavily-commercial American music really sucks!), I'm looking for suggestions for bands I might like.

I already enjoy Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation and I think I like Nightwish (I haven't heard much of them). I'm just starting to listen to Inkubus Sukkubus and I enjoy it so far (especially their cover of "Paint It Black"). In general, I like the female-fronted, heavily operatic and orchestral metal. So what else is out there that I might enjoy that isn't incredibly watered down (like Evanescence)?

Suggestions from the wonderful European/UK contingent of the BB?

I like Nightwish, but only with their new singer. Their older stuff was too opera-ish for me.
I don't listen to much of that symphonic metal stuff (I prefer straight-up metal, like Maiden, Megadeth, and old school Metallica) but yeah, Nightwish is pretty good. But there's a serious lack of good bands with female vocalists nowadays.

well im not from over there but I love those bands! hehe And i agree most of it that's good is from Europe or UK, Personally my favorite is within temptation :woot:
i dont know to many bands though but if you go here

you can just type in nightwish or evanescence for instance and you'll get tons of similar artists and you can listen to some of their music, its awesome

You don´t like opera? 😉 That was what started my interest for Nightwish before I had heard a song. And then I finally did hear a song I fell in love with it immediately not knowing it was them. Just my kind of band.

That is really great. I know I found that "feature" somwhere else but don´t remeber there...

I´ll have to get back on this then my brain starts to work. Could be anything from an hour to a month. Let´s hope for the best.

edit: Epica and After forever could be worth checking out.

You really must check out Opeth. I think it really is "your" band. Then there are Ensiferum, Waltari, Children of Bodom (only SW - FtR era, new albums suck), and you should try
In flames, at the gates, dark tranquillity, emperor, mayhem, soilwork, arch enemy, just to mention few.

I think Opeth is too growly for me, but I'll check out the rest of those. Thanks!

I enjoy the operaticness, but I agree about the old singer. She sounds as though she's had some serious operatic training and refuses to give an inch despite fronting a metal band, where that particular style doesn't quite work. The newer singer seems to be having more fun--especially in the video for "Amaranth."

I like all kinds of Music not dance really though

Try some Cat Power shes kinda Folky but in a nice way no banjos lol

I like the Cocteau Twins x
