Are there any deadheads here? Who are your favorite musicians?

I love the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Metallica, Rush, the Who, Vivaldi, Jimi Hendrix, the Ramones, Mitch Ryder, Wilson Pickett, BB King, the Police, Bach, Black Sabbath, Janis Joplin, Peter Himmelman, the Clash, Dream Theater, Aretha Franklin, Mozart...

My favorites are mostly "old stuff", as you can see, but I'm pretty eclectic overall. There is no genre I won't at least try listening to.

Music is possibly the biggest part of my life, which is why I like to ask others about it.

Please share your favorites with me!

(Fun fact: There's a press shot of JM as Spike leaning against a motorcycle which has some Grateful Dead iconography bolted to it above the pipe. When I saw that, I squealed, "Spike's a deadhead!!!" Of course, I knew this wasn't actually his bike and it was a mere coincidence, but I still enjoyed seeing it. It's attached.)

I'm a huge fan of old rock and metal. Some of my favorite bands are Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Beattles, The Police, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, System of a Down.

My favorite band is a symphonic metal band, Nightwish. I also listen to stuff like Sonata Artica, Serenia, Mortemia, Amberian Dawn, Apocalyptica, Tristania, Evanescence.

I also really enjoy stuff by Lana Del Rey, she's one of my favorites.

I feel like we're music buddies! I have an ex who is into symphonic metal, but I haven't gotten into it too much. I probably should! What do you think of AC/DC and KISS? I love them, too.

You should definitely check out symphonic metal!! It's not for everyone that's for sure, but most metal fans seem to at least enjoy it. And if you like Dream Theater, you'll probably enjoy symp metal!

I'm not a huge fan of AC/DC or KISS, I'll listen to them on the radio but I wouldn't buy their albums kind of thing. They're good but not exactly my style.

I have four or five AC/DC albums. KISS are just fun and theatrical for me.

I listen to a lot of stuff. And, like you guys, I'm also really into metal and hard rock.
My favorite band is Iron Maiden. I've seen them live 9 times and I have like 50 CDs and LPs, some signed by their drummer. I'm also really into AC/DC. I have all their albums and I've been to two concerts. I also listen to Motörhead, Pantera, Aerosmith, Chickenfoot, Van Halen, (old) Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit, Buckcherry and lots of other stuff.
I love blues, like B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Bonamassa, funk and soul, especially Bobby Womack, and movie scores. My favorite composer is John Williams. He has composed the music for Jurassic Park, Jaws, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, just to name a few.

Do you guys enjoy going to concerts?

Can't stay out a thread when I see AC/DC mentioned. 🙂
Imho is AC/DC (with Bon Scott) the greatest band ever!

I'm listening mostly to classic rock, like 70's rock.
So I really like your taste OFAWB. 🙂

Yeah, if I had to pick a single genre to describe my taste it'd be classic rock. The old stuff is the best stuff!
Music is one of the biggest parts of my life. I absolutely love it.

I don't really stick to one genre above another, but if I was to pick some of my favourites that I always go back to, they would include Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Christina Aguilera, Patty Griffin, Ray Lamontagne, Tupac, Eminem, Damien Rice, REM, Amy Winehouse, Adele, The Eagles, Elbow, Julie London, Carol King, Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Otis Redding, Wakey Wakey, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Massive Attack... Jesus, I could go on and on. But yeah, that's who I've had on repeat for the last while.

Did you mention Foo Fighters and Nirvana NEXT to each other? Blasphemy. Jk :)
Music: my favorite thing to talk about. 🙂

Music's always been a constant in my life, but as of late, it's literally become THE most important thing. People continually disappoint me, life continually disappoints me, I continually disappoint myself, so what keeps me from complete self-destruction? Music, naturally.

I have a genuine love of virtually all major genres. So don't play my music at a party. It runs the gamut, trust me. 😉 My favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have all of their albums, and their former guitarist, John Frusciante is my favorite solo artist. His solo work is some of the most beautiful music I have ever had the privilege of listening to.

I love "grunge", or the late 80's/early 90's alternative scene: Nirvana, Hole, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Babes In Toyland, L7, Fugazi, Sebadoh, Temple of The Dog, Mudhoney, The Melvins, Sonic Youth, The Smiths, Dinosaur Jr., Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, Pixies, Foo Fighters, The Wipers, R.E.M, etc.

Classic rock/punk such as: Zeppelin, Sabbath, Cream, The Doors, Hendrix, Bowie, Patti Smith, Television, Ramones, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Mamas and The Papas, Joy Division, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, Black Flag, Dead Boys, Ike and Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Beatles, Stones, etc.

Hip-Hop: OutKast, Eminem, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, De La Soul, Tupac, Biggie, Aesop Rock, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Rakim, KRS One, The Pharcyde, Souls Of Michief, etc.

R & B/Soul: Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin, The New Birth, Sly & The Family Stone, Funkadelic (although they cover a multitude of genres), Al Green, Otis Redding, Fats Domino, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Patti Labelle, Sam Cooke, B.B King, Percy Sledge, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Sade, Prince, Amy Winehouse, etc.

I also have unabashed love for some pop artists. Micheal is still the king, and I will never not blast Britney Spears. I love her. Sue me. 🙂

I freakin' love music, man.

I knew I would find you here...I've missed ya, dude! :)
I love music.

I really, really love Elliott Smith. He's my favourite. (RIP dude) I love everything about him. To me, there's Elliott Smith and then there's everyone else.

I also love: Sparklehorse, Manic Street Preachers, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Oasis, Hole, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Blur, Melvins, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Weezer, Bjork, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Interpol, Jeff Buckley, Pixies, Lard, The Lemonheads, Ministry, Placebo, Modest Mouse, Poristhead, Stone Roses, Nirvana, Muse, Pavement, Rage Against The Machine, Sigor Ros, Garbage, etc.

I just want to say that everyone's replies have really impressed me. Many, many of the bands you've all mentioned are ones I forgot to in my original post.

When I have money, I do go to shows. Mostly, there's a local Grateful Dead tribute band that I like seeing, because my only "real" Dead show was when I was a preschooler. Also, blues clubs are a lot of fun for me. To me, concerts can be a spiritual experience.

Ah, I can never resist a music thread 🙂 Music is such a massive part of my life.

It would take me forever to mention all the bands that I am into, I just know I'm going to forget a few that are really important to me. But, off the top of my head, I love:

David Bowie, No Doubt, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Kings of Leon, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Strokes, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Prince, Queen, Hendrix, The Ramones, Aerosmith, The Who, Iggy Pop, The Beatles, Thin Lizzy........I could go on but I'll make myself stop now 😉 🙂

Totally. I go to as many concerts as I can. I will never forget the feeling of pure joy when I saw David Bowie. And just the total feeling of satisfaction I get every time I walk out of a Foo Fighters gig. It's just like "Yep, that was epic" 🙂

I wish it wasn't so expensive though! I mean, I'm considering going to the Soundwave music festival next year, but its freakin 200 bucks and I only really wanna see Greenday and Placebo...but on the other hand I always have fun at Soundwave. This year was awesome, highlights were definitely Metallica and The Offspring 🙂...uggghhh, I can't decide!

And of course, you would be here as well! We love our music. :) I've missed you too, girl!
Yeah, festivals are insanely expensive. I wanted to go to this summer's Electric Forest Festival. It's only a few hours from where I live, and one of my favorite jam bands, String Cheese Incident, was headlining it. (Someone who helped create BTVS must also be a fan, since I see SCI posters all over that show!) It was a few hundred bucks, though (not including travel expenses), so I didn't go.

I love all types of music but I'm also very much a 90s alternative/grunge girl so I like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, Third Eye Blind, Placebo, Stone Temple Pilots, Matchbox 20, etc etc.

I can have layers! :p
I have a big connection to music, more than most of my friends. My dad is a musician and professional sound man for bands, though doesn't work anymore. His life was music, so that influenced me a lot. I went to gigs all my life - first one being Rage Against the Machine in 1994.

Bands/Artists I'll always love are - Devo, The Clash, The Stranglers, Big Audio Dynamite, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Nirvana, Pixies, Talking Heads, Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, JUSTICE, MIA, God Is An Astronaut, Gorillaz, Junior Boys, Madness, The Killers, Blondie, The Beach Boys.

I have a soft spot for noisy punk and dance music, but also for funky disco music. 😛
