Mutiny of 'Buffy'

"She reaped what she had sowed."? What could one reap to sow to be kicked out of his or her own house? As far as I remember no one was supporting the house economics in Season 6 while Buffy was working her a.. off. Yeah you are right, she reaped the wrong thing; she had to kick them out then and changed the damn locks!

Yeah, I think she did have some kind of super hero complex..like xander had said..well its beause she did have to save everyone all the time. She was one of the best slayers..and outlived nearly all of them..
Why did they complain about her HERO complex..when all they did was sit and complain?

I don't think we know she outlived all of them, as far as we know she outlived one, kendra and even then kendra wouldn't have died if buffy had stayed dead. Faith as we know is still alive and if you think about it has she outlived them all, really she lasted two years and died, she was just lucky to be around people who knew CPR and stuff, she died again in series 5 and argueably again in series 6

I just watched that episode and felt like ripping the heads off each and evryone of those people who got up Buffy. Of course Buffy thinks she's better then them she is. Despite what Anya says it's got nothing to do with lick (how could losing your life to your job be lucky?) slayer or not Buffy the kindest out of them all despite what she's been through.

Not all luck is good luck. I think anya meant that she was randomly chosen, rather than specifically selected.

I realize that many people want to absolve Buffy of any blame, because she is the main character, but she is to blame. So are the Potentials and the Scoobies. NO ONE WAS BLAMELESS.

Buffy treated everyone like recruits at a Marine Corps boot camp. She treated them - especially the Potentials - almost like the Watcher's Council had treated her and other Slayers . . . like weapons of war. Her actions and attitude had brought the mutiny upon her head.

On the other hand . . . both the Potentials and the Scoobies didn't give her a chance to explain her tactics or strategies for a return trip to the vineyards and Caleb. They had allowed their fear of Caleb and their resentment of Buffy's "general" attitude and the failed attack in "Dirty Girls" to get the best of them. Dawn took it one step further by kicking Buffy out of the house, before she could really defend herself.

Is it any wonder that the First Evil turned out to be the main villain of Season 7? What happened in this episode is a clear example of an old saying that "you are your worst enemy". And it was the case in S7. Everyone's flaws and darker impulses (manifested in the First Evil) became their worst enemies.

i disagree more than agree
You and I are the freakin' SAME, Lady. I swear to God. You make so much damn sense it astounds me.

I just read over what I had posted before, and I sound like a snarky bitch. Sorry about that. Not my intent.

I never thought about the Potientials and the Scoobs not giving her a chance to explain a plan before - I just automatically assumed she didn't have one. This was, of course, my bad.

I still think it wasn't smart, but that's my opinion. And I still think it's a load of bull that they got the pointy end of the stake for their decision. But I've stated everything before, so...I depart. Later.

Well yeah no one said buffy shouldn't take any blame..but it's kind of hard when everyone looks to you for answers all the time...and all they do is sit back complain..and wait for you..to make a move.

Buffy was leading a bunch of teenage girls, a witch, a vampire, another slayer, and four adults against a force that was going to destroy the world. She had to make tough decisions and take risks for them to have any chance of winning. Through seven years she had shown the other scoobs that she was more than capable of making the right decisions and winning the fight, even though it may cost her life or the life of someone she loved. Even the Slayer Hopefuls In Training had seen her kill a Turok-han, something they thought was impossible. But she makes one mistake, running into Caleb, who she couldn't have known was as powerful as he was, and they all turn against her. It then turns out that her suspicions about Caleb and the "scythe" were perfectly reasonable.

I also hold nothing against Faith and her decision to go after the Bringers' arsenal. She was now leader and had to make a tough decision based on what info was available. Sure it turned out to be a trap, and she could've possibly foreseen that, but what else could they do? Sit around and hope The First got bored with wanting to take over the world and take up crochet instead?

It seems the potentials (and others) just didn't want to die and didn't want to follow a leader who might risk their lives. Well, hello people! This was a war and they were the only ones there to stop evil taking over the world. Get over yourselves and put it on the line!

I think the whole thing was just a debacle of a plot development by the writers to add more drama to the situation.

I personally think that the mutiny HAD to happen for Buffy and the gang to suceed. Everyone was downhearte, downtrodden, and after getting their asses kicked by Caleb had no morale whatsoever to be going into a war with the first ever evil which was just going to end up as a massacre. Everyone was doubting, everything was building and it had to explode. Someone else had to lead for everyone to fall into line, they had to realise how hard it was to make those decisions, to put everyone at risk. In essence, they had to learn the hard way. If Buffy had stayed and they had of went straight back to the vineyard they would never have bonded, never pulled through as a group and never survived. It took Buffy leaving and them messing up to band together and respect and trust their leader, it was better they got it out of their systems then than at the final battle.

I think that it's very harsh to say that everyone was out of line with Buffy because although I did feel very sorry for her at the intervention I can't help but agree with some people's points.

Faith does not deserve the blame for everything going wrong, she said herself she didn't want to lead, but was right in saying Buffy couldn't follow. She did not have to leave the house, she could have just backed down and followed orders for a while and waited for them to see the fault in what they did. But she couldn't, she walked away.

Many people used the arguments well Buffy has saved all their lives and they should be grateful, she is better than them. I think that is completely unfounded. Yea, Buffy possessed the strength and saved the scoobies lives many times, yes. But Xander saved Buffy's Life in Season One. Without Giles' expertise in the earlier seasons and his guidance, Buffy would not have known what or how to fight her opponents and would have surely died before then. Without Willows protection spells, spells to ward vampires out of her house, Angelus could have killed Buffy as she slept, she never would have gotten Angel back, she would have not had his strength to fight alongside and may not have made it. Without Willow, Xander and Anya, Buffy would not have been brought back, I know she didn't want it at the time but if they had not of brought her back in Season 6 she would not have been able to be leader in Season 7, would not have been able to save their lives with her strength.

Even Dawn researches and helps find information quickly and efficently so Buffy knows what she is up against. One person left with research and fighting every demon shes faced, I don't fancy her odds no matter how good a slayer she is.

Whether she likes it or not, she needs them as much as they need her. Without them she would be dead, never to return, just as they probably would have been without her. A slayer is replacable, the power Willow has is not as easily replaced, or the knowledge of Giles, or Xander's loyalty, he's saved buffy and the world morethan once.

They need to work as a team, buffy is just another part of that. The rest of the Scoobies have the right to voice their concerns, and she wasn't even listening to them most of the time in Season 7.

Yea at the end of the day, the mutiny happened and Faith made the wrong choice, but that could just as easily happened to Buffy, it's not as if she hasn't screwed up before or pushed anyone away and shut herself out. It had to happen for the war to progress, and the main scoobies had a basic right to tell her how they felt and to show her opposistion, it was her choice to leave, they did not shun her completely

The first impartial argement i've ever heard on this subject.
I sort of agree and am in strong support of your arguement as it sounds like that this is the only truely objective, bias free post about this subject so far and that includes my posts, kudos
