Aside from being a huge Buffy fan, I am also really into pinball machines. I grew up around them and I not only enjoy playing them, but I also love to work on them and fix them up. So it was only natural that my Buffy passion and pinball passion would come together some day. For years I have wanted to own a Buffy themed pinball machine. But seeing as they never made one and never will, I would have to take it upon myself and build my own.

Basically what I am doing is taking an existing pinball machine and redoing all of the artwork, sounds, as well as programming all new rule sets. In doing this I am also adding some special features that the original game did not have as well as some custom Buffy inspired add-ons.

I started this project at the end of last year and I am no where near done. Doing a project like this on is a HUGE undertaking. There is way too much information to post it all here and I don't want to bore you with any of the technical details. Now, if you're saying to yourself "Hey, I'd like to be bored with all that techy crap" , well you're in luck. You can visit my website at www.buffypinball.com for all the ins and outs of the build so far.

For those who do not, below are some pics of how it sits now and a little teaser video. I'd love to hear what you guys think about it and if you have any questions, feel free to ask! Also, if you have any good ideas for something that you think should be added to the game (a feature, mode, epic quote, etc.), I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Wow, that's such a super cool thing to do. 🙂

I'm curious about the programming behind it.
What will you use as a processor?

Is it just a smaller microcontroller of some sort or is it a more or less a standard computer with XP embedded (or some other advanced OS) that is programmed in a high-level languange?

That is so cool! I love the art work, the blog is really interesting, I look forward to seeing the playfield artwork!

Thanks! The original machine had its own MPU board that had all of the programming on it. This board is not easily programmable by the end user (The company that developed it came up with their own software/hardware to be able to program them). So what I have done is ditched the original MPU and installed a new board set that runs off of an external PC. This board set has the capabilities of being run off of a few different programs, but I will be using Python to rewrite all new coding for the game and running the new board set using this via windows on a mini PC. I hope that makes sense to you. Haha.

Thank you! I cant wait to get into the playfield artwork! I haven't yet because I want to make sure I have all the rule sets and features laid out first as the playfield art needs to coincide with them.

Makes perfect sense, thank you.

Will keep an I on your site. It's interesting. And don't hesitate to go into details when describing how stuff is done. 😉

This is amazing! I love pinball as well, though I know *nothing* about the technical details. I'll check out your site.

This is possibly one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! Can't wait to see the finished product. I would totally find room in my house for this if I had enough money to buy a ticket to Illinois and rob you.

Wow! That's just plain awesome! I love the artwork. You did an awesome job!

Thanks! Although I cant take credit for the artwork. I had a basic idea that I gave to my graphic artist, and he ran with it. Needless to say for someone who was not overly familiar with BTVS, he did an amazing job putting it together!

Well, its been a life long dream of mine to live "Down Under" so if I ever get there, you'll be that much closer to it! 🙂

I know nothing about pinball machine, but do enjoy playing them. That is SO NEAT!!

Thank you!!

This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a really long time! I'm excited to see the finished product!

Mate tell me how much you want for the finished article, I'll buy it (or one of the production run) off you. Seriously.

That's amazing!!!!!!!!!!! you're vary talented!!!!!!!!!incredible!

Thanks guys!!

Are you sure? You may be a little shocked at how much something like this is costing to build. 😀 I have an enormous amount of money tied up in this thing already and I still have a long way to go. That being said, I don't think any amount of money would pry this thing from my hands. I suppose once I am finished I might consider building another, but it would be the most expensive Buffy item ever on the market. 😱

VERY cool! WOW... I want to play it! 😀 Please tell me the flippers are shaped like headstones or crosses! 😉
