Why did Buffy say this when she knew it wasn't true, because she died in series 5 and another slayer wasn't called, at least not as far as we and also when dawn thought she was a potential she implied that buffy would have to die for her to become a slayer.
If this where true then shouldn't there be another slayer out there somewhere that we dont know about, but really we would know about it because she would have turned up in series 7 and if there is another slayer then it seems illogical so why do the scoobies get it so wrong, i mean they cant have just forgot that buffy had already died before she died again.
 
When she died in season 5 another slayer wasn't called cause faith was still alive and faith is a slayer even if buffy died in season 6 none of the potentials would have become real slayers because Faith would still be there now if faith died one of the potentials would become a slayer even if buffy was still around..

Maybe the writers didn't make a mistake, though. This was in "Potential", before the potentials knew about Faith. This was a way for Buffy to get the message through without complicating matters mid-rant/lecture.

i just read an alternate ending to series 7 wriiten by Joss and co and it explains it:
"BUFFY (CONT'D)

I've got strong allies: warriors, charms, sorcerers, and

I'll need them all. But I'll also need you. Every single

one of you. So now you're asking yourself, "What makes this

different? What makes us anything more than a bunch of

girls getting picked off one by one?" It's true none of you

has the power Faith and I have.

(she glances at Dawn)

I think both Faith and I

(beat, should she?)

and Dawn... would have to die for a new one to be called,

(the potentials react, Buffy hurries to

continue)

and we can't even be sure that girl is in this room...

So because dawn is a part of buffy, unless both of them die, it also explains why the magic protecting the slayer line was messed up by buffys resurrection
 
omg this is a hard one...I remember reading an interview online, nd the person said that another slayer wasn't called after buffy's second death, becuz she wasn't the active slayer at the time.faith was.but in season 7, buffy claims that she is an active slayer.they ruined it!!!if she dies, another slayer doesn't get called, becuz she is not the active slayer.she just has slayer powers.omg, duz any1 know the answer to this?

i agree with you eset, but that doesn't explain what dawn said in, "Potential".nd even the sccobs xander, willow, nd anya seemed to be agreeing with that fact.
