My first convention!

First of all, Hi again to everyone that remembers me! I haven't been super active lately due to life and all it's glory but I do pop in from time to time to see what's new in the boards 🙂

SO! My sweet husband surprised me by telling me that he was taking me to the Tulsa Wizard World this November! EEEKKK! 😀😀😀 I finally get to go geek out and get a chance to meet James Marsters and Eliza Dushku. We can't afford VIP tickets or anything but we are getting regular admission and I get to do at least one photo op or autograph of my choice, though I am thinking the photo op is the better choice, no? But then there is the matter of which one do I choose? 😱

Well here is a question to all those that have been to these events before, what can I expect? What can I do? Are panels restricted to VIPs only? Do they cost additional? Should I bring extra spending money with me? Sorry for all the questions, I am really excited and what to fully enjoy this experience because it is most likely the only time I will get to do this!
 
Photos are always the best way to go. James is so lovely, you will really enjoy meeting him. I got to back in 2012 when he came to the Australian Supanova and he was really awesome. I'm not too sure about the types of things they would have at your event but I would recommend taking some spending money incase they have cool items you won't find anywhere else.
I'm hoping to go to the Oz Comic Con next week to meet Nick Brendon.
My fingers are crossed however that one day David boreanaz will come to one of the Australian events.
 
I've only been to conventions in the UK, so am not sure how they would differ... I would choose a photo over an auto personally, because I've found at busy conventions, there's not too much time for chatting either way!

I did the Chicago one a couple of years ago, first tip wear comfy shoes, there's going to be a lot of people there so you'll be lining up for a while! Also make sure you take a camera, you can't photograph during professional photo ops but sometimes you can during quiet times at auto signings, plus you can with the panel. Panels are free but are first come first served, with VIP people getting priority.

There will be a comic book area where you can buy comic and meet artists and writers, also a vendors area with loads of merchandise, which can get expensive if you want to buy!

There will also be a lot of cosplayers there, which are usually happy for you to take photos of or with.

I would go for photo ops, but to choose only one would be too hard! I would probably go Eliza, just because James does a lot of cons and he's likely to go back another year.
 
For your photo op and/or autograph, I'd choose the actor you like best. They usually charge $25-$40 per autograph, which includes a nice glossy photo. You can also bring your own thing to sign for a lower rate. When I met James I had him sign a photo for me and one of my Spike figures.

James is really nice. I cant speak for Eliza as I have not met her.

The panels are really fun - you'll learn a lot of cool tidbits and insider info. Make sure you are there early to get a good seat.

Also, I've found that if you wait for the line to die down, you can go and meet whomever you want, and talk to them for a bit, and they don't mind.

Thanks so much everyone for the insight. I most definitely will be sharing my experience! November can not get here fast enough. I am so very excited! I was worried I was too old to do something like this but luckily my husband believes in the "it's never too late" motto and got us tickets! I think I am going to find a way to earn some extra money for spending and to try and get both autographs/photo ops. This will probably be the only chance I get to do something like this so I better do it right and make it memorable! 🙂
