My One-Year Anniversary with Buffy

I first started watching Buffy in August of 2009. I don't know what took me so long. Many of my friends watched it in college, but I stayed away from those viewings for some reason. Once I started, I devoured the series in less than two months (would have been two weeks if it weren't for that pesky thing called work). All other Whedon projects soon followed. Now, Buffy and Joss feel so integral to my life that I don't know how I lived without them.

I sometimes catch myself thinking about Buffy "over the years," but then I remember that I've only been watching for one year!

Enough with the self-congratulatory post. I have some questions:

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?
2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?
3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel? - 1999, when I was 6 and a half..
2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years? - I started watching it because of SMG, because I loved her in All My Children, and over the years my opinion changed so much about some stuff.. about some it stayed the same.
3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel? - I guess the other shows I'm into now..

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel? when i was in 6th grade re runs. How much you see when you watch it all the way through 🙂
2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?They have changed a bit I love the characters more and more but then there are some I still dislike. But one thing hasnt changed the love for the two shows.
3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel? I don't know really I would like to think i would have always gave it a try. But if I didnt I would still watch the same things I do now.

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?

When it first started showing. I forget what season we started with... either the end of 1, or the start of 2. I was about 9 years old when my mum came home and said that someone at her work had suggested we watch it. So we did. And I was hooked. Thanks mom! And we watched Angel as soon as it premiered.

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?

I think my love for the show has only grown deeper. It's really embedded in me. So much so that I even got a tattoo. This show helped me through a terrible breakup a few years ago, so going through that as well as growing up with Buffy as left a permanent mark in my psyche.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

Oy, I don't even want to think about it.

I do the same. I feel like I've been watching Buffy for years now, but then I realize I only started in January of this year!

I just started watching Angel in May. I've seen half of season one and a few episodes of season three. It's good, but not something I can pop in and watch anytime like Buffy.

I wasn't sure what to think of Buffy at first. The first episode I tuned into was a season four/five episode because I remember Buffy and Riley having an argument. I was mostly laughing at the way Buffy took out this funny-looking demon. I started watching more and more episodes and began to really get into the show. Season two came first for me, but watching the episode "Hush" made me realize "Man, this show is pretty incredible." A few months later, I bought the season two DVD set, then season five, then I sold those back to the music/movie store I bought them from and purchased the Chosen Collection, which contains all the DVDs.

After watching most of the Buffy episodes several times, I've grown to like Faith and Cordy, characters I was sort of indifferent toward during my first run-through.

If I had never gotten into Buffy? That's a scary thought, since the series really helped me get through some rough times over the past few months, and it definitely gave me something to look forward to when I got home from this totally crap job I had. I'd probably still watch shows like The L Word and The O.C., I suppose.

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?
lol, wow... I don't really like to think of that. Feels like just yesterday but yeah, I started watching right around the time when it first aired (in other words more than a decade has gone by...). I was so psyched cause I had seen SMG in other things and I adored her already. With BtVS it was love at first sight for me.


2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?I still love the show with a feverish passion and though I think my oppinions have somewhat shifted a little the core is still the same. I still adore the same characters and ships. The thing that has changed the most is probably that there isn't really anything that I truly dislike about the show anymore (except Connor/Cordy), I appreciate it all in a different way.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?
Never seen Buff? aah, the horror ;P haha
I probably would've been into the same things I am now - vampires, Harry Potter, Lord of the rings etc etc... and most likely anything else featuring SMG 🙂

I started watching Buffy when it first premired when I was in 3rd/4th grade. Just flipping through the channels and it caught my interest. Watched it ever since, along with Angel when it premired 4 yrs later.

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?

Since the show has been in my life for over 10yrs now, my feelings really havent changed about the show or charecters. Charecters like Riley and S4 dont really get on my nerves as much as they used to. And I have grown to like S4 a lot.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

Who knows? Probably still wouldve been into Charmed, maybe wouldve been just as obessesed with it as I was with BTVS (even S4-8...). But everything probably wouldve been the same.
 
1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel? When it aired. But, I sort of don't count that because I was young and didn't "get" the show. So, November of 09 for Buffy. January of '10 for Angel.
2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years? Well, I didn't watch Angel because of what I remembered/read. But, then I did and it was AWESOME. Same for comics. Not as awesome, but they're not horrible.
3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel? Same stuff I am now, lol.
 
First off, congrats on finally joining the Buffyverse.

1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?

I first started watching Buffy from the beginning. I was seven when it aired in 1997 and thirteen (almost) when is finished in 2003. Thankfully it has continued on in comic form because I wouldn't know what to do with myself if it hadn't.

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?

My feelings are still very strong for Buffy. To say the least I was upset with her in season six. And I still miss all the people who have died over it's seven year run: Jenny Calendar, Joyce Summers, Tara Maclay, Jonathan Levinson, etc.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

I can't really think how I would be if not for Buffy. Obviously if I never knew of it's existence it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But I'm glad this world has Buffy the Vampire Slayer, instead, you know, just shrimp.
 
1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?

I started watching properly when I was around ten, so five years ago, now. It doesn't feel like that long to be honest, but at the same time it feels like Buffy has been there my whole life. It's been nice having it there as I went into my teen years and stuff; it's an escape sometimes. I think I got into Buffy at the right time in my life, and I'm glad I got hooked. I got into Angel when I was about twelve, and I'm glad for getting into that, too.
2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?

They've changed pretty drastically; to begin with it was just a show, something that was okay to watch...But after a few months of watching it became almost like my life. I've learnt to love each and everyone of the characters; and empathise with them in different ways. I understand the shows, and the messages behind different things more now, and can comprehend and enjoy them on a higher level than I could when I was younger. I think Buffy went from being something I loved, to something I needed in my life, as crazy as that may sound.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

Oh, gosh, I don't know? Oh don't really want to consider that, Buffy has helped me a lot and definitely caused me to mature quite a lot, in my opinion at least; I dread to say it but I think if I wasn't a Buffy fan I'd probably be one of those scary Twilight girls *Shudder*. I know if I didn't have Buffy in my life I'd be different (One of the reasons I used to get picked on, was because I was such a strong Buffy fan, sometimes, cause I took my bag and pencil case and stuff to school) and I think if I hadn't had my love for Buffy, I might have grown to be less shy and self-concious to begin with as I went to school, and maybe have different friends; in which case I'd probably be into different things. I think I'd still like Glee, and stuff, but I'd probably be more into...Whatever it is other teenagers watch.
 
1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel? I started watching Buffy in 1998, when Season 2 was first airing. Before then, I'd only watched a couple of episodes, but by the time Season 2 came on, I was hooked hardcore.

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years? YES, definitely... I used to love Willow and she was one of my favorite characters; now I can barely stand to look at her after Season 4. I also used to really like Harmony; now I think she's absolutely pointless.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel? I have no idea. I think I'd still have found something else to obsess over and fall in love with, though. I needed something in that time in my life. I needed something that made me feel empowered as a young girl, and gave me hope that even though I wasn't a popular or overly pretty, there was still hope for me. 🙂
 
1. When did you start watching Buffy and/or Angel?
Buffy - summer of 1998. I was just about to turn 8. The first episode I saw was a rerun of "Angel". Other episodes I remember watching for the first time from that summer are: "Ted," "Bad Eggs," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Go Fish," "Becoming (1)," and "Becoming (2)". I saw the Angel pilot but then the WB left WGN Superstation and I didn't have the affiliate until midway through the season. I did manage to see most of the first season but really didnt get back into it again until the end of s3, and continued watching both shows religiously until the finale of Angel.

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?
Umm.. all I remember from when I was 8 was that "Buffy is pretty, and is amazing." Over the years, I had a crush on Willow, and a man crush on Angel and Graham. I obviously understood more about what was going on towards the end of its original run (2000-2003) because I was a little older. But I had the biggest Buffy obsession. My first 3 dvds were Buffy s1&2 and Angel s1. lol. And the cases look like it. I think I might have to replace my Angel s1 dvds because the first few are so scratched.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?
Uhm, I was always interested in the supernatural, so that never would have changed. But I wouldnt have been into the WB as much growing up if I hadn't seen Buffy. Well.. the reason I watched Buffy is because it was on Mondays at 9/8c after "7th Heaven". (During the first 3 seasons of the original run, Buffy was on Mondays at 9 and Tuesdays at 8.) I think it was inevitable that I would see Buffy. I also watched "So Weird" and "Charmed" around that time as well. So I don't think I would have not seen the Buffyverse.
 
1: When did you start watching Buffy or Angel?

Can't say for certain but my earliest memory is watching "Becoming" part 1 and 2 on the BBC over here in England when the show was airing. So i guess i started watching sometime during season 2.

2: How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?

Well its only really during this year that i started becoming obsessed with the show again since it finished in 2003. I watched a few episodes and got hooked and it was great watching the show again after a lengthly absence, revitlised my interest.

Being a member on BB and hearing others views has definately made me think differently about certain things but essentially i still love the show for the same reason. Buffy was and always will be unique, i'll always love the characters, the storylines will always be engrossing and the show will always make me laugh.

3: What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?

The same sort of things. Watching Buffy and Angel didn't really change my viewpoints on anything. I was very young when i first watched the show and it was just enjoyable sitting down with my brothers and watching the show unfold. At that point i just found the show entertaining, its more recently where i've thought in more depth about the show.

Three years ago! Found a buffy book in my school library and the rest was history 😀

2. How have your feelings about the shows and characters changed over the years?
I used to LOVE Angel...now I love Spike 😉. I never really found Willow cute before, but I do now. When I was younger, I did not understand some of Buffy's big speechs, LOL but as I got lder and did re-watches, I now do.

3. What do you think you'd be into if you'd never watched Buffy or Angel?
Honestly, I'd be a hardcore Twilight fan most likely. I enjoy its story, but thanks to Buffy I will never accept the vampires. Apart from that, the same things probably. I'd never have discovered Dr. Horrible or Firefly, but I would still have the same taste and like the same things.
