My Opinion So Far

Hi

So I've been watching through the whole series of BtVS recently (for the first time, I had seen a few episodes here and there back when it was airing on TV but I never really followed it, only ever saw some of season 5 I think) and currently up to episode 3 of season 6 (which is why I decided to post this topic in the season 6 forum).

To be honest I think I prefer the early season more so far (season 1 and 2 mainly) as now it seems to be getting more depressing and bleak tbh and the storylines seem to drag on a bit more. The earlier seasons were a lot more easy going and that's what I liked about them, and the central hub of the Library had a 'homely' type feel to it. I don't dislike any of the seasons, they have all been great so far, and looking forward to watching the final 2 but I just felt like expressing my opinions so far from what I have watched. I also have the Angel box set coming soon (which I have never watched either) so will be watching that after Buffy and will probably do another opinion based topic after watching the series.

Thanks.

Yeah, quite a few people seem to dislike the last two seasons. I say keep an open mind and try to understand what the show is getting at with these "darker" storylines. Season 6 is all about the characters growing up and learning to be responsible - the Big Bad is "life". Yes, everything does fall apart - but why do we fall? So we can pick ourselves back up. (hehe Batman reference sorry)
I don't want to say too much, but I'm curious to hear what you think about season 6 as you go along. It's my favorite season for many reasons...
very cool that you're watching Buffy for the first time though! I'm jealous 🙂
7 is pretty cool, by the way. Cool guest stars and epic battle scenes.

I'm curious: Who are your favorite characters? What do you like best about the show? Favorite episode so far?
There are some really memorable episodes in 6...like Tabula Rasa, Once More, With Feeling...ahh, I can't wait till you see that one!

Evo made it for me :) i love it!
My favourite characters so far are probably Xander, Anya and Spike, Xander and Anya because of the humour and Spike also cos of the humour but how his character has changed since season 2, from hating the Slayer to being in love with her which is a bit weird. Theres nothing specific I like best to be honest, I just think everything fits together well in the show and how it develops. I also don't really have a favourite episode at the moment, a lot of them I thought were great, all of them really, just not picked anything specific that I like best.

Yay Spike love!
I love Season 6, and like Joan, I'm also curious what you're gonna think about the season later on. I can't wait til you see OMWF, Tabula Rasa, Normal Again, all 3 final epys, etc.

P.S. Tara's amazing in this season! 🙂

I'm very intriged. I watched the show all over the place and I've always wished I had a lateral experience with it. But it's very imporatnat not to judge till the end. Did you remeber any earlier forshadowings after seeing things happen?

I vaguely remember the episode when the Buffy Bot is first built, and I remember Spike living in the crypt. I also remember the group meeting in the magic shop as the regular hangout area but I always thought it was the Library for some reason when I think back.

If you aren't as fond of the depressing and bleak storylines I can't imagine you being a huge fan of Angel...

I understand what you're saying...but I'm happy they took the characters to dark places, killed some of them, and showed that the world can just be plain cruel. Wouldn't have been too happy if every season had been like a walk in candyland...because that just wouldn't be true to life.

I don't think Angel's depressing, just darker. :)

I never said I didn't like those storylines nor do I mind the fact that they play out slower than the earlier seasons storylines, I just said that I prefered the more upbeat storylines of the earlier seasons is all. Theres nothing I haven't liked about the series so far, every season has been great and they have their own unique things that make them different and interesting to watch and carry on watching.

That wasn't really what I meant. I was just commenting on the difference between the two and the progression.

I understand that Angel is meant to be a lot darker than Buffy, and that I don't mind as it's a different show so I don't expect the same type of atmosphere, considering how the character acts when he is in Buffy.

Yeah, Angel becomes much more likeable in his own show. They're able to delve much more into this character and past. On BtVS, he's sort of just Buffy's love interest. (and of course, the delightfully scary Angelus). 😉

I prefer a bit more bleak and depressing stuff in my stories, makes them more compelling and real. I prefer the continuing arcs as well.

I've just finished watching Once More, with Feeling and I thought it was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of musicals, although I did like the Sweeney Todd movie but that episode was enjoyable, and added something different and it wasn't too serious an episode.

Well, you mean not serious other than the fact that the Scoobs found out Buffy was in heaven not hell? That was a pretty big plot development 🙂

Well yeah I suppose so, although by the fact that it was a musical rather than conventional episode featuring lots of important dialogue. Although I suppose it could be substituted in the way the songs explain stuff.

I'd agree if Michelle Trachtenberg's acting didn't ruin the whole episode. SMG was pretty awful in it too.
