My Personal Shanshu Theory

The universe being thrown out of wack wasn't an event in which Lindsay and Eve seized upon, but one which they created. The plot was that Lindsay would disrupt the universe, then his cohort, Eve, would feed Team Angel some bogus theory about it being the result of 2 vampires with souls, leading Angel and Spike to battle over the Cup of Perpetual Torment. A Vampire with a soul must drink from the Cup in order to inherit the Shanshu prophecy's reward of human life.

i agree with the above, but always wondered what about the big cat going missing and the conduit becoming a howling abyss - surely that would have been beyond Eve and Lindsey's capabilities. Even Eve seems surprised when Gunn tells them that. So i think the news of two champion vampires with souls does throw them - they've assumed it was Angel all along and now suddenly there's a question mark over who the prophecy is about.
 
Many cultures have legends about the "end of days," but whether it is called Apocalypse, Ragnarök, or Prom Night, the one similarity in all of them is that it is a force that is both inevitable and irresistible. It will be, and no force in the universe can stand against it. Also common to all of these legends is that mankind will be warned by a series of preliminary battles, each more violent than the one before, that lead up to a single great battle in which the forces of Good and Evil square off in one last all out battle.

Each one of the so called "apocalypses" Buffy and her friends friends fought in was simply another preliminary battle. That is what Lindsey meant. The apocalypse isn't a single battle, but an ongoing war.
 
What Makes A Champion?

If thats the case Spike wasn't a champion until after he sacrificed his unlife for good.

Spike was a champion when Buffy gave him the pendant (Remember? "It was meant to be worn by a champion," "Never been called that before..."). In fact, as near as I can recall, Spike was the ONLY one she ever referred to as her Champion. Angel was often referred to as a champion, but only on his own show, and usually by Wes. I guess that means that Spike was the Slayer's Champion, and Angel was the Watcher's Champion.
 
So I'm a hyrpocrite, maybe I'll get Chaucer to write a story about me 🙂
