My personal theory why the slayer line became unstable, part 2.

A while ago i posted my own theory about why the slayer line became unstable on the boards and this lead on to an interesting debate.

However on revisiting my theory i have noticed a flaw, which is that in series 6 buffy flat lined and in a sense died, but a new slayer was not called, which tends to suggest my theory is wrong.

It also has other implications as this could be used as evidence to suggest that contrary to popular opinion buffy is not in fact the slayer in se 7 as even if she had been in series 6 then she had died so another slayer would have been called and this new anonymous slayer would have been the slayer. However it seems more likely that faith is in fact and always has been the slayer since series 3.

I know this is going o face a lot of criticism and will spark up the unanswerable debate once again but i thought i'd put it out there anyway lol

First of all the popular opinion is not the one that goes "the way the line passes changed by season 7". Popular opinion says the line passes only through Faith up to the spell in Chosen.

I like to call the line-changing theory the "Buffy-boards" theory, because...

# 1 I heard it first at Buffy-boards.

# 2 It's never been defeated here in reasoned debate.

The flat-line death does not affect the line-changing theory. In Season 7 Xander tells us Buffy only died twice. Now you can apply "what if's", and "maybes" to that to explain why Xanders words don't reflect the truth, but once you do that you allow the same logic to be applied against your arguement.

You see if you say "Maybe Xander's words don't matter. Maybe he didn't hear the flat-line signal", I can now say, "Maybe there is a third slayer, and we just don't know about her", or "Maybe Willow's magic confused the equipment, giving a false flat-line signal" or... and it goes on.

We can apply facts if you like.
Xander is not by any means a medical profession - fact.
We saw the screen flatline - fact.
The screen flatlined then Willow removed the Bullet - fact.
Willow was channeling some major mojo - fact.

This does not say that Buffy did die, BUT nor does it say she didn't. As the 'Death' in Prophecy Girl is not actual death, we can reasonably take from that that Xander equates death as having to resusitate someone who is nearly dead, and in the Hospital Buffy was not visually resusitated.

The fact of the matter is, whoever wrote that scene in the Hospital did a poor job in explaining what happened UNLESS the point was to create this discussion of 'did she or didn't she'.

My favourite is the one where we discuss heart death, and brain death, and what it takes to actually pronounce someone dead, because then people have to start posting links, and I get to read stuff.

It doesn't prove anything as far as the slayer-line thing goes, but it's fun.

On a site that I went to once, this guy(a medical intern) 'proved' that Buffy can't have died in Prophecy Girl so the whole of season 2-6(at the time 7 had not been shown) was redundant and written incorrectly....it was amusing.
There is a certain member on this board(he only posts in one thread) who reminds me so much of him its unreal.
