Rex has a fractured toe. A piece of the bone splintered and it's sticking out a little bit. He has a cast on, and a cone so he doesn't lick the cast (if it gets wet, they'll have to give him a new one... I guess because it'll get infected otherwise). It'll have to stay on at least 2 weeks, and maybe up to 6. If the splintered part of his bone doesn't go back where it should, the Vet may have to amputate his toe. I have to carry him up and down the stairs, he has to be out on a leash when he's "out" (he's used to running free in the fenced-in back yard), and, since he isn't supposed to run, he can't play. He's going to go stir crazy in no time.

This happened sometime over the weekend--at least that's when I noticed that he was limping. Then Monday or Tuesday I noticed that his toe had blood. Since he wasn't better as of last night I took him to the Vet earlier today.

Oh no! I hate it when my dog gets sick or hurt, I feel so sorry for the little guy.

Aww poor puppy!

I remember when I took my kitty to get spayed, she had to wear one of those cones for about a week. She's already pretty dumb and that cone just confused the hell out of her. She kept bumping into walls cause she couldn't judge the new circumference of her head. And she walked backwards for a whole day cause she was trying to back herself out of it and couldn't understand why it wouldn't come off. It was hard not to laugh. I felt really bad cause she just looked so pitiful. 🙁

I hope your puppy feels better and can play outside again soon. 🙂

Ha, Rex is kind of dumb even though he's extremely smart. Even though he has a giant cone thing on his head, he managed to chew the cast/splint off. No more split for Rex (it happened yesterday while I was at work, and we didn't get another yet since the Vet's closed). When I took him out earlier today, he didn't seem to be limping quite as much as he was the other day.

AND he kind of fooled me when I took him "out" in the front yard (he usually goes in the back yard, but from the back door we have to go down stairs to get to the back yard and he's not supposed to go down stairs). He was sniffing around for a while, then he slyly sniffed his way to the gate to the back yard. So I took him to the back yard, then he sniffed right over to his frisbee. I guess that means he's okay, although medically speaking I don't know how well his toe has healed.
